OUR RECORD SPEED!
We catch a pretty hefty shark in our crab pot.
Leaving Brampton Island with a strong wind behind us and some pretty big waves (never looks as big in the camera).
We break our record speed surfing down a wave at 10.5 knots.. (Thats not crazy fast for some boats.. but for us it felt sooooo fast)
On course for Goldsmith Island, we get there in no time!
Finally getting used to our Big Dog -quote Dion..
(our Screecher sail) we learn the best way to furl the sail in strong winds.
First put our the Jib (our smaller head sail).
Absolute game changer, once the Jib is out it helps to block some of the wind that fills the Screecher. Then we are able to furl the sail so much easier.
With the waves getting bigger and not knowing what the sea will be like through the pass to get to Goldsmith Island, it is time to put our life jackets on and lock the Kids inside. This gives us that piece of mind that they won't sneak out the back with us focused on other things.
If someone was to fall into a big sea it could be a long time before we could turn back to retrieve them. We would need to turn the engines on, put the sails down, turn around and do all of this while having eyes on the person the WHOLE time! A small head in massive waves can disappear so quickly. When we would finally have the boat turned around beating into the wind and the waves, you would barley be moving forward.. This is why we put so many procedures in place so this will hopefully never happen!
Our anchorage at Goldsmith Island was nice and calm and the next day we head for Shaw Island. We follow a rubbish trail to the most polluted beaches we have found to date. Such a shame to see.
