Kingdom of Hawaii is the mecca of big waves... I read its rich history in the 100 Foot Wave book by Milton and Michael Willis. They, Ace Cool, and a few others who were charging back in the day! Great video! Kingdom of Hawaii 🤩
that was very enjoyable....top-notch masses of water mixed with truly skilled and experienced riders on a variety of vehicles...and a nice array of spectators oooh and aahhing their approval....i like it.
The perspectives that you use make it better than many surfing videos IMO. Many focus way too close to the surfer. The wave is just as much of the story as the surfer, especially on huge waves like those.@@surfersofhawaii
@8:00 presents the most dangerous scenarios imaginable in surfing: Effectively, mast & wing o foil convert to guillotine, catapulted by metric tons of Ocean, with rider of foil & surfer inside prone to maiming, evisceration, or much, much worse
gotta say i enjoy the paddle in stuff more then the tow stuff more variance to the ride the tow stuff is just so automatic drop in big turn race it and out the paddle guys are way more committed and luv seeing them pull in spent about a hr watching so many people now ,, all crazy either way ,, Ho'okipa was about as big as ive seen in yrs on Friday fun day just to cruz the coast
Not just any kitesurfer, it's Jesse Richman (the first few). Also, he ditched his kite on that last one. I'd like to see Kai with a kite, it'd be awesome. And I understand the urge of surfers to want to paddle big waves, but towing (or kiting) allows for much higher performance wave riding, imho.
@jzkramer fuck yes! Had it not been too much trades the tow teams would have been shut down that was not 30' tow surf was perfect paddle size 20' a few 25' waves. If it had been glassy early then light trades oh braddah.....
I’d definitely do it if I knew how to surf (that well) my only experience is 2 months in Costa Rica and a week in Hawaii (small waves) but damn, that’s some serious water on some of those. Props to those dudes, I’ll stick to the snow!
We wanna discuss how awkward and physically uncomfortable foiling may look here? With all the fun things to ride it seems like a big day surfing was wasted just in order to be different?
Riding jaws on a foil is kooky and anyone doing it is just in it for the "insta" likes - they just add to the "zoo" out there for no good reason. They have to get towed in anyway. The windsurfers own the place, but I know they get really ticked off by some of the tow-in guys and kiters always positioning themselves up-wind and not letting people take their fair turns.
Everyday the same boring surf stories. Everything looks the same. 20 drones and 200 photographer at the cliffs. The riders are nothing without safety jet skis.
