For building owners and operators watching this, please do your due-diligence in maintaining the properties you are responsible for. The same sentiment goes for engineers and property investors as well. Spend the money, make the effort.

@@cllc9722 well said. I could reply with so much added on but I will restrain myself out of respect for those lost and forever changed. I always wanted to travel to the 'old country' to see the buildings that have lasted hundreds of years. Those built on sides of mountains. Here in Regina if a building even gets to 50 years they are just waiting to knock its butt down to build new. I am in a new neighborhood of the city- right on the edge literally and in the 6 years I have been here thousands of buildings have gone up. And they are built in what seems like days. Even have a Save on Foods with a Starbucks in it and they LITERALLY just built a building a block (within the the same mess of mini mall buildings) away with a driven. This was thought up pre pandemic. I am left here smh at what i am witnessing. Sorry i did rant a bit. I really appreciated your comment as it made me see that I am not alone in these thoughts. It’s so weird to me that I heard about this tragedy and I first heard about Cassie. I was drawn to thii I s lady Cassie. I just felt it could have been something that happened to my family. One in another state waiting for her husband to join her. He was in quarantine in Denver cause he tested positive. So when she got startled and frightened she called her husband. Before he could figure out to tell her to get out of the building it collapsed on top of her. I had just gotten a new kitty Kat. I named her Cassie.

@Morris Wisniewski if the building owner couldn't pay the repair cost, the government should have condemned the building and forced the building owner to buy out all the condo owners, condo landlords are stupid rich.The building was deemed unsafe 3 years ago and nothing was done. Stupidity and greed right there.

@Kate Yeah, I don't think anyone goes into a condo purchase thinking it's all just temporary and they might need to re-purchase the same condo again. But from a cost standpoint, that is literally what might need to be done. Maybe there is a way to restructure the time-share industry to make it more feasible to the condo owner.

Yes there are pretty similiar cases. The "Dolphin Towers" condominium in sarasota for example. It had exactly the same problem ( structural damages in the garage) but the owners of the condos didnt want to pay for the repairs. They didnt understood that with buying a condo, you are part of the association and everyone has to pay his share to maintain the building. One day, people couldnt open their doors anymore and the walls were bowed. Everyone had to be evacuated and even then, many owners didnt want to pay (or werent able). It took the owners who wanted to repair the building and the building management years to solve the ownership/money problem. btw. the repairs were planned by the same engineers involved now and they did a very well job. ps: I would be really afraid if I lived in a florida condo tower. They seem to be designed pretty similiar and probably all have design issues.

@JillyBean You HAVE to consider that much of your attitude is hindsight. "Crumbling" to the condo board simple meant not looking its best. THIS kind of thing had never happened before and there was this myth amongst the construction industry that this was impossible. Solid buildings in the U.S. don't just fall down... until they do. Unquestionably they made mistakes but I highly doubt they understood the level of risk they were taking. My point is they are legally culpable, no doubt, but morally responsible, that much harder thing to say.

@@Robert08010 I'm definitely not blaming the owners. I feel as though the condo association and the inspectors are 100% to blame. However, there were cracks everywhere but the owners hands were tied. Condominium associations are Untouchable and the laws need to change NOW!

@@440SPN it just breaks my heart how the health inspector didn't see this coming....I mean Florida is nothing but sand. I lived in Hudson Florida back in 2016. The house I was renting was sitting literally sitting on a sink hole. The house has a slant to it. I was there in that house for just the summer and left back to Northern California soon as my x had enough of it. I was so scared all the time I was in that house that the ground would just open up. I heard some crazy things from my neighbors. They said I was smart for leaving......mind you I didn't know the house was sitting on top of a sink hole until I got there. My X was already there and thank God he's my x now. God bless those beautiful people.🤗💞👼

@@veronicakennedy5269 from what I have read in the comments they knew something was wrong snd things were sporadically worked on. BUT built way too close to the water and combined with high winds it finally gave way, natural erosion. I live in Florida. I would hope all buildings built that close to the water are having a good look at their foundational issues. This was terribly tragic and I for one can't get over it. God bless all. 🙌

Well yes, in both cases a building fell mostly straight down and people died. But that doesn’t mean that both happened for the same reasons.

yupp its like 911 because of the way the building fell down...except we all know 911 was equipped to be demolished lol but they decided to add that nice show.. the miami building went straight down Because it was a lil sink hole, but they will not admit it... it will KILL the value of the avenue.... We are not supposed to have these huge buildings RIGHT on the coastline... humanity is going through a big "foundation change". People are being displaced from their homes all over the world because of our poor choice of where we decide to build things as well......we are not stronger than nature and the universe....but we are equal.. peace n love

Jacks and timbers should have been installed and that pool drained and the pool deck tarped until repairs could have been done. Some1 dropped the ball. Every building along Fl coast needs a 20 year inspection by a structural engineer.
