Surgery Update: I Thought I Was Doing Okay 

I got PRK in January and I remember I was surprised by how much it hurt in the first week of recovery especially because I consider myself to have a high pain tolerance. I remember struggling and just lying in bed with the lights off for days and I was really nervous I made the wrong decision. After the first week the pain went away but my vision was still worse than I thought it would be. What I didn't realize is how hard it would be to see my computer screen because the healing process can cause an astigmatism which caused blurry vision even up close for a couple months. I really struggled with feeling worried my vision would never recover but I can say I am officially 3 months post op and my vision is great! My vision seems perfect to me but my doctor says it will get even better. I just wanted to share my experience with you so if you feel any of the same things you can know that it will be okay and it will get better! ❤️❤️

They don’t mentally prepare you. After you have it done you realise, how big of a decision the surgery is. 9 months on and I’m so glad I had lasik x

Rach hang in there your doing so well. I know how bad it hurts but just remember the rewards will be worth it. After 3 cornea transplants that have failed I’m currently on a surgery list to have my eye removed. The nerve pain has been so intense for the past 2 years. No sleep and constant chronic pain. I have no sight in that eye and after numerous operations this is my only option. I’m so grateful I have a small bit of sight in my left eye. After my PRK for the first 3 days I literally slept or was in bed listening to podcasts / audio books. My eyes were so sensitive and the constant drops were a pain in the ass, but getting the surgery was definitely one of the best decisions I've made.

You’ve got this girl! Sorry you’re in pain - it will pass. Just remember, you’re not wasting days, the task at hand is recovery. Slow down, de-stress, rest. It will make the recovery faster ❤️

I had that surgery 22 years ago. The technology wasn't as precise as it is now. Regardless, I still went from bottle-cap glasses to 20/20. I'm older now, so I need reading glasses now and a bit of my astigmatism has somehow returned, but I can't complain. I went 2 decades needing zero glasses. Good luck! I remember the recovery. The worst part was the agitated feeling but it's all temporary. Totally worth it!

I miss Gwen on All things Internet! She was so joyful to watch. Its just not the same without her. I have intermittent Iritis, eye pain is awful, seriously awful. You have my sympathies. Prayers of healing.

I've been watching your videos since I can remember and have been considering Lasik or PRK and saving up. But now I'm scared 😫 I would love for you to do a follow-up video once you're healed. I'm weighing PRK vs Lasik and still am in the beginning stages but really appreciated your explanation of the surgery because I hate going in blind and want to know exactly what happens and what to expect. I worked for a lasik company for 2 yrs. Put your lubricating drops in the fridge and when you put them in your eye the cold drops are like a little ice pack for your eyes. Also, see if your doc is cool with you doing a cold compress placed gently over your eyes (not actually pressed on) to relieve some of that discomfort. Your recovery routine is super strict compared to what I've seen for prk so I wouldn't stress too much. Sounds like you're in good hands.

I had LASIK in 2007. I remember having those exact same sunglasses afterwards. I remember my eyes being a little achy, but what I remember the most was all the scratchiness, like someone put sand in my eyes. One thing you can do to help occupy your mind is to listen to an interesting audiobook. Prayers for a fast recovery!!! I do remember my Dr telling me that the thing that would help me heal the quickest was to sleep because that’s when your body does most of its healing.

I had a hard time thinking about what you can do without going outside, watching TV or your phone. PODCASTS!!! Makes so much sense! and there are a couple podcasts out there I really love. I could recommend them to you. LMK! Oh, you're not going to read this... my bad.

I have watched the Decorah Eagles nest for years....this is the first time since 2007 that our mama eagle has not laid/hatched eggs so the geese were a welcome surprise. Only 5 of the 6 eggs hatched, 5 babies jumped from the nest today (70+ feet). Last I heard 4 of the babies were in the water with mom and dad and boots on the ground were searching for baby #5.... it was fascinating!

saw a youtuber and his mom get eye surgery, his mom had lasik and he had something similar to Rachel. Mom was fabulous the next day, him, not so much. He struggled for 4 months before he finally was able to see better

You aren't "wasting" days. You are responsibly recovering. That isnt a waste. That is important and it matters. Dont diminish it!

You know what might be fun or interesting try doing some drawings or paintings use push pins to mark important lines or try crochet or knitting something like a scarf🐱we love You 🙏💃🌷🐦🎶🌈

I had PRK in one of my eyes and got 20/20 vision. Two years later I was diagnosed with ocular melanoma in that eye. After a couple of surgeries for that my vision went to 20/100 if I only knew I could have saved myself $1000 🙂

Man it’s so hard to see poor Rachel in pain! 🥺 Try listening to audible books to help and you can just listen in a dark room with your eyes closed ❤️ I hope you heal fast ❤️

I had ICL and Lasik surgery 14 years ago and can honestly say I don't remember it hurting at all. I had my corneas scrubbed off because they were too thin to flap. I'm not saying it didn't hurt, it probably did. I just don't remember it...so it's SO worth the short amount of time it sucks. I wish you a speedy recovery!!

You'll never have to fuss with contacts or glasses again! This is a small price to pay for such a lovely luxury! Now be lazy damn it! Things that you can do without screens -Play board games -You and girlfriend can tell jokes and see who can make the other laugh more -cook or bake when you can open your eyes more -puzzles -color or paint -work on training with your dogs -at night drive out of the city with girlfriend and look at the stars

I can almost understand the pain, kind of.. A few years ago i had a blasting ball (or what theyre called) hit my eye and get stuck, so i had to go to the doctor and dig it out.. It was SO painful for like a week! So I feel so sorry for you to have that much pain 😞😢
