I totally love your pattern. I have made 375 hats for a major hospital in our area. Volunteer Services at our hospital has let me know that the medical staff absolutely love them. Because I was making so many I tweeked the pattern slightly to make the process just a bit faster. I am still making more. I have a huge sewing room and am trying to use up a lot of material. I have made a few different styles but none are as good as this one. I am 80 yrs old and I have used over 100 yards of fabric. Thankyou for sharing your pattern. Happy sewing.

Thank you sooo much for doing this tutorial it was fabulous. Also kudos to your daughter who was able to film without making me sick. Your attention to detail was inspiring, you must be a wonderful DDS. I will be making them for my daughter & staff who is a Veterinarian. P.S. Thank you for sharing without charging a penny as some do, it is greatly appreciated for those of us who may not have that extra penny.

FYI: the first encased seam you made is called a French seam and what you call as bias tape are really binding tape because the strips are not cut on the bias. Important terms to not confuse your viewers who may not be that familiar with sewing.

A thousand thank you's for this pattern and tutorial!!! I have a couple of tips to add. If your print is directional it takes more fabric. Mine was, so instead of making the band and ties I used 1.5" grosgrain ribbon. I used 12" for the elastic casing and 48" for the band and ties. Also, if your fabric is only 21", don't freak out when the oval point doesn't match the band. You can trim that and cover it in the casing.
@sullivansteph
@sullivansteph 4 года назад
Valerie Schlink thank you for the comment! And yes, some fat quarters are 21 inches which will still work
@sullivansteph
@sullivansteph 4 года назад
Valerie Schlink also, you are correct about the directional fabric- I learned that the hard way- also, if it I directional, you have to be careful about making sure you don’t sew a piece on upside down- I’ve also made that mistake! LOL! But sewing is a learning process, so everyone has to mess a few things up to learn- and have a good Seam Ripper 😃

This is an awesome pattern! Thanks so much for sharing it! I couldn’t find any 1/8 inch elastic so I used a round elastic hair band and cut it in half. Worked like a charm! So far I’ve made 3 over the weekend and my goal is to make one for every nurse in our office so I have 4 to go. Looks cute too to let your hair come out the back in a pony tail with the tie underneath. We are nor “required” to use a cap but we do have to wear a mask and googles and the googles do a number on your hair and forehead so this cap will be great. I think I’ll put some buttons on the sides too for the mask. I love to sew and even better love to make things for other people, so thanks again!!!

Hi...Just watched your video. You have made a wonderful quality scrub cap...French seams and all!!! I've sewn for six decades and appreciate your project! I do have a couple of suggestions. First, try not to sew with the bulk of your work going through the arm of the sewing machine. You'll find it is much easier to handle your project. Second, if you pin or stitch the end of your elastic to the entry end of your casing, you can pull it through far enough to sew both ends using just 5" of elastic and saving 2". I loved your clear, through instructions delivered with your wonderful down home Southern accent. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing...KMc

Renie this is my question as well. I just cut out what I thought was a good "A" piece and I too got stuck as my piece didn't go all the way around. I don't know what the heck I'm doing on this part. I am going to try to figure it out by perhaps cutting the pattern in half and see if I can do it like that. I'm just so glad that it's a fat quarter and that makes me feel like I'm not wasting material. Just would like like to get it right. My first cap is a mess.

Renie Ashbaugh if you are having trouble with the top cap piece, just cut an oval - start in the middle when sewing and if the pieces don’t meet in the back, it’s no big deal really- the binding tape will cover everything up

Could you please tell me the length and width of "A"? I used quadrill paper to measure and cut out, but it was too long for part B to match up. Thank you so much and I really want to make some of these for my granddaughter who is a nurse and must wear a cap.

Thank you for this video- I am not able to find your pattern or instructions- there is no description from what I see - lots of comments- RDH here and these are much more fun than the paper ones! Thank you!

Thank you for the details of fabrics. Wish the audio quality is better. It sounds so far away.

Gladys Ma thank you! I’m not sure why the audio sounds bad for you- I’ve had one other person say that as well

Hi, I made your pattern yesterday it was easy to follow and sew. Loved the French seam idea for the cap top! I did have a problem fitting the cap top to the band I tried attaching it several times but the point kept come out about 3/4 of an inch past the end of the band. I could not get it to fit so ended up cutting the material down so it would fit. I was wondering if you might have and thoughts on why this happened? The cap seems too small probable because of trimming it down. I'm wondering if how I drew the rounded-off corners may have made it too long. I'm wondering if you might have any suggestions as to why the top ended up too long? I doubled checked the piece of material I cut and it was 6" x 9" so I can't figure out the problem?

Patricia Johnson sometimes bar happens to mine also if my fabric is 21 inches- next time, don’t start at the point, start sewing about 1 inch away from the point and it will end up even on the other side- then you can hide the shortage on the back with the binding- it will work out fine

Hi Dr. Stephanie! I love your videos.. they are very easy to follow. I used your pattern for the headband too! 🙃 I do have a question, where would you sew the button on the surgical cap? Is there an average? Like your headband button is 1.5inches from bottom of fabric. Thank you so much!

ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ Beary I usually just out the cap on my own head and mark right at my ears with a marking pen and place the button there
