What do you think about the Q optic 4.5x prism loupes? Very sleek and light weight design is making me contemplate if I should get them

I like 4.5 as a magnification for everyday dentistry. I honestly don’t have enough information about q optics to give a recommendation either way

Thanks for the great video Doc! How much declination angle are you getting from your loupes? I know that's one of the biggest ergonomic factors to be considered.

The wireless light, how long does it last? Is it bright?

The wireless light is bright but they may have had some updates with the lighting systems they use since this video. Go to Surgitel’s website and they should give you some info about the length of time the light stays on surgitel.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/26452B-Wireless-LED-User-Instructions.pdf

Thank you very much I am a plastic surgeryr resident I have a high resolution 3x loupes and I am wondering are those loupes provide a large field with the 6x I find it sometimes handy to use the loupes microvascular anastmosis , and if possible how can I get more info about the pricing thank you again .

Thanks for sharing. I am currently contemplating of buying 5.5x Surgritel Loupe to help me in my practice. I would be doing around 20-30% Orthodontic, am I able to get a full arch view with 5.5x ?

So far I haven't been impressed with my SurgiTel loupes, especially considering how expensive they are. I still feel the need to lean forward a lot, which has definitely given me neck and upper back issues. The glasses smudge and fog up excessively while wearing a mask, and my light is flimsy and deviates to the the right no matter how tightly I screw the attachment. For $2000 US I expected more.

Damn. I’m sorry you don’t like your loupes David. Maybe try contacting them to see if you can get a different pair or maybe a return? I hope you get it fixed

I've been using a pair of 5.5x mag ergo from surgitel. I might have to return them because I am having pain as well EVEN WITH THEIR ERGONOMIC DESIGN. I agree with you on the light. It is flimsy and always moves when I am engaging the filter.

Doctor. I recently graduated from LLUSD dental school. I'm working in a private practice, I have a 2.5 X loupes and I would like to buy a more powerful magnification. What do you recommend? I was thinking somewhere between 4.5 and 5.5 magnification from Surgitel. Can you advise please! Thanks in advance.

My mother graduated from that school!!! Congratulations 🍾 🎉 sooooo..... you need a magnification that allows you to work efficiently but also gives you enough focus so that you can see the details in your work (preparations, margins) If I had a previous 2.5x pair of loupes, I would switch to a 3.5 or 4. I think it’s too significant of a jump to switch to a 4.5x or larger. I have a feeling that you may get frustrated since it’s a big difference in scope. Later in your career, you will switch mags as necessary. I encourage you to get the FLM loupes as they will allow you to change lenses as you see fit. Hope that helps and best of luck in your career

Hello! I'm looking to buy surgitel loupes but can't decide on frames (currently deciding b/w the oakley and ergo max). Do you have any advice on which one is better and why (surgitel keeps pushing their own aero frames for some reason in Australia )? unfortunately I can't try them on due to the current situation. Why would you need a N95 mask? Level 2 mask should be fine. But I understand the demanding for overkill protection.

Hello doc! Thank you very much for the informative video. I have few questions. what type of procedures would benefit from very high magnification like 6.5x? and is the shallow depth of field from such high mag ever an issue when you perform those procedures? and speaking of ergonomics, do you think FLM style loupes (steep declination angle but heavier) are better in terms of reducing neck pain than TTL loupes (not as steep declination angle but lighter)? thanks a bunch!

Hi Kim! My bread and butter loupes are the 4.5x; however, I use 6.5x for procedures that require a bit more detail... consultation for cracked teeth, endodontic procedures, etc. . . Magnification can help you visualize things that you may take for granted with lesser mag loupes. I have had a variety of loupes during my career as a dentist & the weight of your loupes will have a major impact on neck pain! FLM loupes will increase the declination angle which will prevent you from tilting your head forward and causing more neck pain. Surgitel does a great job at making sure ergonomics is key 🔑
