I think it's for emergency scenarios. You can loose a lot of blood and stitching takes time. Especially in a rougher, unhygienic, setting. If stapling can help the blood loss, I think it's worth it. Additionally, it won't cut off blood flow in the dermis and it's especially good for places with smaller blood vessels.
