Please keep running this programming series, it is very interesting mate! I hold a UK intermediate Amateur Radio licence and I am particularly interested in converting business radio equipment to Ham use. So far I have "done" Kenwood TK350 hand held's and a couple of Maxcom PM100 mobiles. I also have the ubiquitous GP300 handheld but I only have programming gear for the Kenwoods. Bye the way I have recently put my first two videos on RU-vid - please take a look and comment!

Good morning guys. I just had a someone program 4 Motorola HT600's to communicate with each other. I am looking for a Maxtrac that works and can be programed to communicate with the HT600's. These are the same radios I used when I first became a Sheriff. Also, I am looking for a cloning cable for the HT600's, that goes from Radio-to-Radio, not Radio-to-computer. Thanks for y'alls help.

More than likely the last radio you show in the video was programmed by a newer version of RSS. tis is Motoroni's way of making one buy newer programming software. Their new windows based software is nice but from what I gather very hard to modify when one needs to get into the meat and potatoes of changing the bandwidth parameters of a radio unlike the DOS programs where one could change the frequency range of a radio.

That rib box programs the maxtrac gm300 m120 radios also the gtx900 mobile they are all radius series mobiles. The maxtrac the gm 300 and the m120 are all the same radio. The gm 300 was a 2 channel a 8 channel or a 16 channel the m120 was 2 channel only I believe and the maxtrac was 2 8 or 16 or 32 channels. The maxtrac was also trunking capable on the original 800 mhz trunking systems it is NOT p25 trunking.

There should be a jumper in the radio to disable or enable ignition.

I have a maxtrac 300 low-band on 6m question . I use alot m120's, gm300 all time used repeater adapters from Amazon so they repeat . I have also couple radios cross band . I have no issues ever perfect audio all time. Well here's the issue the 6m low band I have works perfect after tuned and brass slugged. I had no pin 8 Cor but programing it fixed that. Now when I put it together with any UHF radio as a remote link guess what... The tx flat audio out is high pitched and low in volume then a r radio as I break the sq and then key up on 6m ht . I just spent a few hours trying capcitors, transformers across the pin 5 audio to source out no good . I changed a few settings in menu extended features key f9 after reading no good . It's almost like I need a preamp with tone control to deepen the squirlly audio. What's your take on that i tried naxtrac into 2 m10's ,2 m120"s ,1 gm309 UHF , 1 vhf gm300 all hi pitched naxtrac"s pin 5 tx audio into other radios thin hi pitched lower audio . The repeater adapters I have two that don't help the audio either it's like a misunderstanding matched tx audio out to other Moto radios? Frustrating.

Just to note - 800 MHz is not legal for anyone to use in the USA except law enforcement and some commercial users that still have license. You should NOT have to adjust the ref osc. unless you recapped the PLL section or did a board change, otherwise you really should not be messing with it. Your Maxtrac has a hacked or bad codeplug in it = double high low POST beeps.. The SM50 as well as the SP50 (handheld version) are no longer legal to use in the US on part 90 bands due to narrow banding. Ham and GMRS radio they are OK to use because they Sm50 and SM120 and SP 50 have part 95 certification. SM50's are good for building compact 25 watt repeaters but I would recommend the PM400 (UHF) / CM300 (VHF) for a more modern build in the same form factor ERROR 22 Radio Not Supported = The SM50 can not be read with the SP50 RSS, You need SM50 RSS. The SM50 and SP50 are part of the same product line but Motorola made separate programs for them. USB based cables WILL NOT work reliably and can brick the radio

I had to learn the hard way myself on the Motorola's, if the tech programmed the radio with a newer version of software then you're out of luck which I think is a money racket where they keep their tech's buying software. I've not ran into it with the Kenwood's hope I don't because I have several of both brands. Thanks for the video very helpful.

I have Rss on a cd rom and used it back in the late 90s early 2000 to program some maxtracs but cant remember what machine I used to do it. Is it possible that the software is windows based since it is on cd rom? I don't remember using dos but may have. Any chance you could jog my memory and tell me what i need to do? I have the rib, the cables and software just confused with the software being on a cd.

@GUERRILLACOMM
@GUERRILLACOMM 9 лет назад
Jon Williams I had little success using USB cables on older radios. I think a lot of that has to do with my patience with the older gear newer PC problems. I much rather get up to date gear that could be serviced reliably. Just my opinion.

You need a true DOS PC, Motorola RiB and Motorola cable, that 3rd party crap is crap and can brick your radio.
@enredao_electronico2737

For most Models up to 1993-4 wont work USB since they are MS DOS based software and no USB Driver (that I'm aware of ) work with them. I have an OLD PII with Win 98 that I boot on DOS when is necessary .
@Elfnetdesigns
@Elfnetdesigns 7 лет назад
RSS was pretty much all RS-232? (not sure if that is the correct number XD) serial based where CPS can be either RS-232 serial or USB based. You are correct that some later versions of RSS could be manipulated with 3rd party USB drivers and such but I personally would not recommend it or trust it but that's just me. Old early eprom based radios you had to use an old XT PC like the Saber, faster computers were known to "burn out" the radios serial buss circuitry rendering the radio bricked unless you had the money to have it replaced or repaired. I keep an old P2 and an XT in my shop for this purposes though they never see programming work outside of ham radio or GMRS frequency programming...

@GUERRILLACOMM
@GUERRILLACOMM 10 лет назад
Ethan Whisenant If you ever worked with the old DOS operating system, its the same way. it has many of the usual DOS command lines to navigate through it. You would have to get a copy of the radio service software and install it onto the DOSBOX environment. I'll make sure to demo that procedure on my follow up series.
