With Germany, I bet it's because they're alarmed at the very strong showing by a newer party that's campaigned on this issue, the AfD- they already won one state, and just narrowly missed winning in two others. Legals work their hinds off to earn the right to come. They have to prove they have put in the effort to join the country and will adapt and fit into it. We’d see a bigger reduction in crime if they raised the punishments. Possession of a knife unless it’s a necessary tool for work should get a decent prison sentence. First crime committed with use or possession of a knife gets a prison sentence. It’s the lack of proper prison sentences that the main problem.
