This lady caused some jaws to drop, trying out a Telecaster. This is Paula Jo Taylor in Nashville, TN. Quite a picker! --Jim SUBSCRIBE TO PAULA JO'S CHANNEL AT: / paulajotaylor (Paula's original vid is at: • Paula Jo Taylor "Viral... ).
It’s already been said, but “Never judge a book by it’s cover...” certainly applies here. She could be anyone’s grandmother, and yet here she is “pickin’ chicken” like a champ. Awesome stuff.
I play guitar and have since I was a teen, I'm 66 now, but have never owned an electric guitar.....UNTIL NOW. Paula has inspired me to do so. So tomorrow I go shopping for a Telecaster. Thanks for the inspiration Paula Jo Taylor.
If you all want more her name is Paula Joe Taylor, she plays in Nashville with her daughter Amanda Taylor, and they call their band the "Mama Tried Band" look them up.
There's a saying in Nashville, Music City USA. Shake a tree, and 50 guitar pickers will fall out. Another great saying and this Lady proves it. NEVER JUDGE a book by it's cover...lol
Edward vp Oh...I know wattzup now. There is another guy on YT with my handle who does pretty nice vids working on cars. No biggie to me but I don't know how YT let him have my handle with the same exact spelling.
Probably because she has obviously been honing her skills for decades, and playing electric guitar is something a girl would not have been expected to do when she was younger.
In the late 60's, I worked selling guitars, and teaching beginning lessons at a local respected music store, here in Indy. This was during and after the "british" invasion. I thought I was a great guitar player. We closed at 9PM. About 8:45, some guys came in I never heard of, and looked like truck drivers, welders, or line cooks. (btw, those kinda guys have jobs these days). Then, some came in you would recognize, like Wes Montgomery, obviously before he passed away. Heard the song from John Sebastian? About the pickers in Nashville? Thats what it was like. These guys, old and young, black and white, would jam till the early hours of the morning. I couldn't touch them, and it was either blues or country, and they all played together, and were better than any of the rock musicians (me included) that were around those days locally. A valued memory :)
On my BEST day, I couldn't begin to touch those old country and blues musicians, and they played for peanuts at clubs (for the most part). Lets put it this way, as a 19-20 year old guy, I not only didn't go to those clubs, but probably would have been run out LOL. Of course, if the musicians recognized me, its another story. BTW, I haven't even picked up a guitar seriously, in about 40 years. But....my guild 12 string, my fender Jaguar, my blonde pre CBS bandmaster, and my dual showman, DID pay for some college :) Finally sold my Martin D18 a couple of years ago.
Jayden Valentine Thats it?Guess I'll call it good.Though you're welcome.to continue divebombing your doughy, non guitar playing fingers into your keyboard for more blistering comebacks.Happy New Year!
No, its not a Fender. Its made by Fret King, a , British company, Trevor Wilkinson designed, made in Korea. Think this is the Jerry Donahue model which is basically a telecaster clone with a strat pickup in neck. Nice guitar, well made., .....as long as you like a "V" neck.
@isaac tanis......it has a soft "V" shape profile moving up to a more "C"shape as you go towards the body....and a 7.25 (vintage style) radius fret board.
Smoke on the water is for aficionados... for the record, the lady's playing what's called "picking-chicken"hybrid style, originated in rural Kentucky and Texas,a must for the serious Bluegrass player and another contribution of America to Universal culture..long live America and you keep rocking ma'am.M Vico from Havana.
How interesting this popped up in my RU-vid suggestions. I actually saw her play live on a visit to Nashville. She was in a Broadway Street bar with two or three other band mates, and had a guitar strap that went over both shoulders. And she killed.
Marvincent Acuña Her name is Paula Joe Taylor she plays in Nashville with her daughter Amanda, and their band the "Mama tried Band" she's a one of the nicest most beautiful lady's you'll ever meet. And when it come to chicken pickin shes the queen. I'm lucky enough to call her a friend.
I saw this lady playing in a bar in Nashville, just killin’ it, her daughter was lead vocalist, really a treat, I broke off from my friends and just hung there all night, she was so good. Even played my request “I Am a Lonesome Fugitive,” Made my trip.
Indeed... Myrtle Haggard. Some of her influences include Donna Rich, Jane Burton, Vickie Skaggs, Brenda Mason, Ginny Vaughn, Danielle Gatton, Sherry Donahue and the ever popular Jean Parsons....
Michael Randolf No, it was a joke. I used Merle Haggard as reference to the style of guitar playing then substituted a female name of similar phonetic voicing to emphasize that she is a woman who is skillfully chicken pickin' the shit out of that guitar.
MFL, that was sweet music to my ears. Grandma has been hiding this talent from me and how come I didn’t receive this ability to play like that. It skipped a generation.
IT IS THESE TIMES THAT ARE AMAZING AND WHEN THE STORE PEOPLE GET TO BE PART OF IT IS GREAT! THERE ARE SOME AMAZING PEOPLE OUT THERE! THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!
Seen several videos like this one making it out to be a shock that older people can play a mean guitar and don't understand why. Keith Richards is 74, Paul McCartney-75, Carlos Santana-70, Joe Perry-67, Eric Clapton-72, Jimmy Paige- 73, Neil Young-72, Jeff Beck-73, Pete Townshend-72, Buddy Guy-81, Even the "whippersnapper", Eddie Van Halen is 62. And as for lady guitarist? Lita Ford (pushing 70) Nancy Wilson-63, Bonnie Raitt-63, Joanie Mitchell-74, etc.
imagine, you're hanging out with your grandma at the mall, window shopping and what not and you go into a music store to just browse around and your grandma suddenly does this... ..
Nah, keep those guitars. There's 1,352 guitar pickers in Nashville... and they all play better than me. But I"m not parting with my Martins! Keep 'em. They help keep your blood pumping!
boulila skander he's not man enough to play a telecaster. Meanwhile super/better guitar players like Hunter Hayes, Vince Gill, Brent Mason, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Joe Don Rooney have and/or still do play the manly and the coolest I might add, electric guitar that is a Fender Telecaster. Plus the only way it would work to have that long bearded and haired S.O.B. play some Chicken Pickin' type stuff is if he cut his hair short, trimmed his beard and got hired to back a new country artist and move to Nashville.
Samuel Duplessis what i posted was btw just a joke. What you are saying is not really fair man. Playing a certain guitar shape doesn.t make you any cooler or more of a "man" and what ever you like zakk or not he is and always will be a legend. He put crazy amount of time and effort in practicing and you can't take that away from him. This applies to any other musician. You don.t have to like the genre but you have to be fair and recognize the talent and effort. But this ain.t the right place to argue. Big thumb up for this lady (y) !
Everybody always bashes zakk online. Im a huge zakk fan but i can recognize his bullshit too. But he has laid down tracks that are just plain incredible. But im reminded of a joke i heard a long time ago "how many lead guitarists does it take to screw in a light bulb?....1 and a million others to say they can do it better. I dont kno who all u zakk haters are, but alot of ppl kno who zakk wylde is
I was playin in a church in San Jose, an old lady like this showed up, shes a sessionist apparently, plays a wicked line by sight reading, finished 1 song, then went straight to trumpet, pulled it off like a champ....sight reading also.
I was blessed enough to play a song with her, her daughter, and their band in Nashville at Paradise Park on Broadway. They are great people. So thankful to have met, and still keep in touch with her today.
