Couldn't agree more. What we need is a bill that allows NO amnesty-period, NO free work permits handed out at the border like candy, and resumes building the wall in 2024, even if it costs more than half a trillion dollars. We need funding that gives us more ICE agents for deportations and more Border Patrol agents for ARRESTS and DEPORTATION, including more deportation flights! We also need to add way more surveillance tech to detect and stop drug smuggling, human trafficking and illegal crossings. We need to make it way harder for immigrants to prove their asylum requests, so they can't just say, “I have fear in my country” and get released into America for years! We need to be able to deport anyone seeking asylum with a criminal record immediately, instead of the current policy of deporting them years from now (a.k.a. never). We should also be able to deport any alien who could have resettled in another country (or even another city in their own country) on the way to ours. More than anything, we need a bill that grants more authority to shut the border down completely, especially whenever there's a caravan. But I'm sure dems will vote it down in favor of open borders. Oh well.

If you read through the Constitution, while the federal government as a whole has authority over the border, most of that power is vested in Congress as the lawmaking authority. The President is not constitutionally granted power to create laws, and as such the office is not granted power to shut down the border unless Congress vests the power within the office to do so. Additionally, the bill serves a greater purpose of making our court system that deals with illegal immigrants more efficient, making it less financially beneficial for them to cross the border illegally (as it is very expensive for them to pay smugglers to get them across). As such, this will innately slow down immigration *and* help remove illegal immigrants from the country (or accept them as legal immigrants and US residents) in a much more humane and proper way than Trump's policies in his term did.

Among other things, simply "CLOSE BORDER!" would tank the American agribusiness workforce by 12% (more like 20% accounting for legal green card holders who will be too scared to apply for visas or will be misidentified as "an illegal"). That would lead to drastic reduction in agricultural yields, which would lead to insane grocery product inflation, which will be blamed on -- you guessed it -- Joe Biden.
