When I was growing up, i shared a room with 5 other siblings and it was smaller than that room. It was a bunk bed with a pull out bed from underneath, a smaller mattress on the floor to the side and a crib. This room looks amazing!!!! I wish we had something like this!
Wow thank you for sharing! Even though it’s a filled room sometimes those make for some great memories with your family. I’m so glad you liked the makeover! Thank you for all the support!
Thank you so much! And haha yes I’m very thankful for my brother and sister law for letting me tackle this project. and providing the kids for a kids bedroom makeover 😂😂😂
Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ru-vid.comUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
We had five boys.Three of them were in a room about that size.We managed for awhile when my husband made homemade beds with crib mattresses. When they grew out of those,we had to do the bedroom shuffle, changing rooms with the teens, then eventually took the ten by ten bedroom, giving the younger three our master bedroom. Now the house is quiet, and the boys are all grown. It is so cool to see you make a creative solution for this family. Most of the time, people are just frustrated and stuck with cramped rooms, and whiny children, trying to make a small room work.I love your creative ideas!
Wow that’s sooo awesome thank for sharing. I think this all shows real life and what a ton of families have to do to make the most of a space. Thank you so much for watching and leaving a nice comment! 🥰🥰🥰
The triple bunk bed looks amazing! Time, Patience and thought got put into it. It looks so sturdy I've read a few comments criticizing the bed but honestly I think it's so much better than something you can go out and buy premade ( things aren't made like they used to)
Thank you too much! And yes I did look at triple bunk bed I could just buy and all of them were made out of particle board. So I figure I would trust my brother and my building skills and make it out of actual wood haha. Both of us have been building things our whole lives (force to build decks with my dad haha) so we knew we could build something study! Thanks so much for nice comment and support!
There's always been a lot of junk made, but because junk doesn't last we don't have examples from the old days! Only the good stuff lasts, and not much good stuff gets made.
I don’t know how this ended on my watch list but this room is fabulous. The hand cut letters are so much more personal and fun than a ‘proper’ cut. I love it all.
Oh thank you sooo much! Haha those pillows were very much tossed together but I'm very pleased with how they turned out. Just don't look at the fact I put the J backwards in all the final shots 😂😂😂. I was a running on real little sleep haha.
OK, when you are rich and famous and have your own TV show will you remember that I was here cheering you on from the beginning? I mean really, this room ROCKS! What a delightful space. It's so cool, cozy, fun and stylish. Bravo!
These sweet kids will always remember what you did for them you gave each one of them something special. They were jumping around and very happy so they really loved everything. Of course dad helped some too. Everything thing looks great I'm loving that 3 tier bunk bed just awesome.💗💙💜😊😊😊😇👍👍👍⭐💯
People keep asking me why there is only one kid in the 3rd bedroom. The 3rd bedroom is my brothers house is very very small, about half the size of this room. So there's not enough space for two kids to share that room. The 3rd boy is currently a baby so they have him in that room because of his different sleep schedule until he is older. Hope this helps! 🥰
Love how the room turned out, the beds & the gallery wall are amazing. Hoping the bottom mattress straight on thw floor as apparently that can harbour mould 🤞
OH yes I already mentioned the mold thing to my brother. We definitely had no idea that was a thing so hes adjusting it to have a little air flow under the mattress. I'm so glad you liked everything! 🥰 thanks so much for watching and the nice comment!
Oh yeah I got the best shots I could unfortunately I don’t have a super wide angle lens for my camera where I could capture the bed like that! 😬 thanks so much for watching!
Don't know how this ended up in my recommended but I'm glad I watched! I was a little skeptical about how you could make this work, but I am absolutely astonished at how good it turned out! I spent my entire childhood (up until I was 18 yrs old!) sharing a room with my sibling and I always wished I had my own space, so I thought "there's no way you could make this work with THREE inside this tiny space!" But this video reminded me of how fun it was to spend so much time with my sibling and you designed this space so well! I hope these kids have the time of their life in this new room!
Oh my gosh thank you sooo much! And my niece used to have her own room before her little baby brother came along. and she hated having her own room and wanted to be back with her brothers haha. So I think sharing a room makes for some awesome memories! 🥰 thanks so much for watching I'm so glad you liked the makeover!
This is is absolutely amazing. When you first mentioned staggered, though, I envisioned two on one wall and the middle on a perpendicular on the other wall. Like everyone’s feet “meeting” at the corner. That may have given them even more room.
Very nicely done, and thanx for giving me a perfect idea for my triplet kids bed, as will surprise them as they love bunk beds a lot. Take care. Stay safe.
Oh they are going to love it. My niece and nephews treat their bed like a jungle gym haha! and of course I'm glad you liked it and I'm glad I could help! ☺️
That's a really cool set up. Love the zigzag of the bunks. As someone who's slept on the top of various bunkbeds, tho, I have to say, have you ever climbed up round treads in bare feet? It be not fun.... I remember taking my sandal up to bed with me because they hurt.
I would actually also put bed slots on the bottom bunk so that there's airflow underneath the mattress. Mattresses have gotten mouldy from laying straight on the floor for too long.
Oh yea I’ve had this mentioned a few time. We definitely didn’t know that but I told my brother and he already made the adjustments to the bottom bed! Thanks so much for helpful tip! 🥰
@@MaileyElaine it looked like there was a vent under that mattress, did he do something after filming to uncover it? I would really recommend lifting the bed (not just the mattress, the whole bed frame too) a few inches off of it so there is airflow to that vent.
@@sarawofford Hey there yes we covered that vent and closed it off. Unfortunately for the support the bottom frame need to rest on the ground. But there are two other vents in the room still uncovered so its the air is redirected to those vents.
Wow, the triple bunk beds look incredible! Although there’s a few comments criticising the beds, I personally think they look incredible! You are extremely talented, and the bed you made looks like something from a store! So impressive! 🥰
Oh thank you so much, that means so much! I definitely trust the bed we built more then a particle board bed from the store haha! Thanks for watching and for the nice comment! 🥰🥰🥰
This room looks great, and I love what you did with the beds! However, if there's anything I took note of it's the fact that there's not a lot of cloth in the room outside the beds. Since this is a room for 3 kids, and the plan was for them to also play there, the room can quickly become very loud and echo-y. If you want a tip, then an easy way to solve this is to hang up some canvas paintings on the wall instead of paper pictures protected with glass. They're perhaps a little more expensive, but cloth absorb noise really well, so a few canvas paintings does wonders for the noise levels. Granted this video is a year old by now, so you might already have taken this into consideration into future projects, but if nothing else this might help someone else. :) Great job with this room, and good luck on your future projects! :)
oh thank you so much! and the canvas idea is such a good idea I was actually thinking of making a similar cloth panel for my studio for sounds purposes when I'm filming. So it makes total sense! My brother actually has since moved from this house so I have a feeling I'm going to be called to tackle another kids bedroom in the future haha so I'll keep this in mind. Thanks so much for watching! :)
How sweet that your niece and nephews will be able to think that their Aunt and Dad did all this for them every time they're enjoying their room?! Everything looks amazing! I also wonder how coordinating the bunks with the dresser colors would look
oh I know they love this room so much. And I kind of did with the throw blankets a pink one on my nieces bed and then green and orange one on my nephews bed. My brother wanted to use the same comforter so I got those to coordinate. 🥰
@@MaileyElaine it looks amazing!! you did such a good job especially within your constraints. I lived for years in the Baltimore and DC area and row homes still have a special place in my heart ❤
This comments section lacks a lot of manners from viewers! Maybe I’m reading into things too much, but its odd how easy it is for you guys to be critical without being helpful. Either way, I love the creativity and would love to have had these kid of bunk beds as a kid!
Thank you for the nice comment! I'm so glad you liked the makeover. And it was the best feeling seeing the look the on my niece and nephews faces when they saw their bed. I totally agree I would have love to have a bunk bed like this as a kid!
First time here and really enjoyed your vid. First, you're too cute (not creepy, 60 year old woman here!). Also really impressed that you and your brother could work together for so long and with such intensity. Further impressed that you were willing to do this for your brother and his family. Really fun. The bunk beds were amazing and I really loved the ladder.
Thank you so much! 🥰 and my brother and I definitely butted heads but we're also really close so I was happy to help. Plus my little nieces and nephews are the best so I couldn't wait to see their reaction. Thanks so much for watching!
This looked so cool and they seemed to really love it! I have 3 kids around the same ages, a 6 year old daughter and two sons who are 5 and 2 so this would be perfect for them! Maybe one day I will try something like this!
I shared a room with my 2 sisters. The tree of us would love to have more space in our room. Today I have 2 daughters sharing a smallish and rectangle room. I keep on trying to make it more space and better. I wanted to get a bunk bed, but everything seems enormous in there room. I love the idea of zigzag and using the window side. The colors in the room (not painted on the walls). All the little details, even the pillows (I am starting to want to sew more, I am a beginner, and that is awesome what you did). Thanks for the great ideas!
@@MaileyElaine I loved the room. I told my husband that I will design and do the bed for my girls. I am so happy you just do it and I love the inspiration.... simple and beautiful.
I’ve been binging your videos since yesterday and can’t get enough! Like you remind me of my favourite creators Mr Kate, Dani DIY and Alexandra Gator! I’m just making sure I mark that date I said you would blow up on RU-vid so you can remember it! 🥳
This looks great! Did you add slats to the bottom bunk? Mattresses need to be off the floor so they don't get buggy and moist. The dowels are fun but I would consider screwing them in directly too instead of just relying on the pipe clamps, because those could loosen and the dowels could roll underfoot and cause falls. Those letter pillows are fun! I have some minky laying around, so maybe I'll do that for my kids' bunkbeds. Love your color choices too.
Thank you so much! And at the time we just put the mattress on the ground. But people have let me know about the mold so I let my brother know and he is going to adjust the bottom bunk to be off the ground. and my brother checks the clamps from time to time to make sure they are still tight and not going to spin on them. You should definitely make some letter pillows they are so cute. If you are not in a huge rush like me they will turn out a lot cleaner then mine did haha! Thanks so much for the support and nice comment! 🥰🥰🥰
Oh thank you soooo much! I loved see the kids reaction it made all the work totally worth it. My brother ended up just putting the vent cover over it and closing it. I asked him about it and they said they’ve had no issue since there are two other air vents in the room.
That's what happened with my niece before her little brother came along. She had her own room and liked being in the same room as her brothers. 🥰 So cute!
If space allows, I would have made two twin beds along one wall, then another along the intersecting wall from the corner. I would have placed them on top of three drawer chests height, along their length. This would allow for more floor space.
Thanks for watching! We actually played around with that idea but there isn’t enough space. The bed we made really gave the room the most amount of floor space. We played around with what felt like a million different ideas haha
Thank you!! My brother just flips the mattress. It’s a cheap twin mattress from ikea so it’s the same on both side. I believe he also went ahead and put more of those curved slatted boards on the bottom bunk so that it was slightly lifted off the ground.
Who else sees the black wall as Mailey's subtle way of encouraging her love for black to the next generation. In all seriousness I wish RU-vid were around when I was a kid. But alas computers weren't even around. Well done.
what a great idea to zig-zag the bunk beds! and the ladder is so cool. i appreciate your video-making skills, too, because i just made a how-to video for a very simple project (a bumblebee mailbox) and it took me ALL DAY just to edit all the clips into something halfway coherent. You did a really super job and the kids' excitement was happy to see
Oh thank you so much! Yes the zigzag made all the different! And thank you it always makes my day when people compliment my editing. I only just started edited when I started my RU-vid channel. so it’s been an intense three years of learning how to edit. And I still have so much to learn. Thanks for the support and the nice comment! 🥰
Love it love it. I would have to say one of the best videos I’ve seen thus far . I love those dressers . I always thought IKEA was expensive. Wonderful job . You really inspired me . Thanks
oh thank you!!! Ikea really is overpriced but also just happens to be the cheapest. But new furniture nowadays is overpriced. And I'm so glad I could inspire you... that's why I started my channel! So goal achieved! 🥰🥰🥰
Omg Awsome job I live in Brooklyn nyc a studio apt this bunk bed would b super Awsome for my daughter if I could afford to pay someone to do this I would not think twice due to my daughter is all about books drawing n a home Body n only go’s out to school n ever Aother weekend to the mall or book stores with her cuz lol she definitely deserves this just as ur beautiful nince n Newphew’s the joy n smiles on there face was everything! Priceless your Awsome ❤
Oh thank you! And hey Brooklyn... I used to live in Manhattan! I feel like the the people that live in cities truly get this makeover haha. and your daughter sounds a lot like my niece! :) Seeing their faces definitely made all the work worth it. Thanks so much for watching and the nice comment!
Well done. This looks terrific. One quick note, the rail for the top bed looks like it would be too low for the safety standards where I live (I only know this because we recently bought a bunk bed. It’s probably ok but maybe consider some additional railing? I’m gingham to have to try to make an “A” cushion for my daughter. 🥰
Thank you! and so far the railing has been high enough. My niece is ummm a crazy sleeper haha and I asked my brother if the railing was high enough (I thought the same thing you did once I put the mattress on that bunk). and my brother said it stops her every time so it seems to be just high enough to get the job done. 🥰 but I still one day might add an extra board when I go to visit! and yes a gingham letter would be amazing! Thanks sooo much for watching!
OMG thank you! Sometimes I think I'm the only one laughing at myself and my jokes 😂! sooo you just gave me the highest of compliments in my book! I'm so glad you liked and thank you for watching! 🥰
Your creativity is awesome I just love that rm and so did the lil goobers it did warm my heart and shed a little tear beautiful this is the first time I've caught one of your videos but I enjoyed it and I subscribe looking forward to seeing more have a great day
Haha well if you have a brother or sister that can supply some kids 😂😂😂 being an aunt is really awesome! I'll stick with my baby kitties for the time being (they are enough work) ! and my niece and nephews reactions melted my heart as well! Thanks so much for watching! 🥰
This is stunning! Just concerned the middle child will roll off the bunk without a guard rail, the stairs only guard so much ? Also i think little headboards would finish off the beds 😍 but the vibe and style is just aaammaazing!
Oh thank you! and the middle kid has been great. The ladder does protect him from falling off. Little headboards would be super cute... unfortunately I only had time for so many project. I'm so glad you liked it though! :) thanks for watching!!!
