It's JustMe the size of the diamond doesnt matter to some women. I could get a mood ring from Claire's and still be happy. It's the meaning behind it that should matter not the material or size.
Yeah, right....that's the response you give when the guy can't afford to give an expensive ring, and you would be right to do so, but when the guy can OBVIOUSLY afford more but buys a cheap ring anyway, you gotta call a spade a spade.
You have to consider that the lady maybe doesn't like to be flashy, maybe she's kind of a quaint girl and wouldn't want some giant ring. Also they may have rented the plane, it could be a joint measure, plane may not be that expensive, maybe he's had it for a long time...there are a lot of factors that make him probably not as much of an ass as you really seem to want him to be.
Materialistic women are prostitutes. The original use for a ring was an insurance policy that the woman could sell off if the man died. In 2018 there is no need for such things except as an extravagance and a cultural relic. And also perhaps it's nice to have a symbol of your bond together. But if you're measuring the strength of the bond by the size of the diamond, regardless of the size of the man's wallet, you are not thinking with your higher brain. What's the point? You have to prove how much your husband loves you by showing a ring off to your friends? How pathetic is that?
Sorry, I may seem old-fashioned, but the man has to get on his damn knee when he proposes, unless he absolutely can't do it for very specific reasons - but like the guys here, they can't even do THAT In my opinion, that is NOT possible AT ALL! THAT should be self-evident for anyone planning this...

Word of advice for aspiring spouses, never ask in an airplane ride. You put them in a hyper vulnerable spot where even if they would have said yes, there becomes a chance that their survival hinges upon a yes, and may feel extremely manipulated. The thought that goes through the mind, if I say no right now, will they crash the plane and kill us both? Don't do that to a loved one.
