The Orthoschnapp Gambit is a rare and tricky line against the French Defense. Even for a world-class chess player like GM Var Akobian -- / gmvarakobian , the Orthoschnapp Gambit is can still come as a surprise. In this video, I unleashed the tricky (but arguably dubious) gambit against Var in a blitz game on lichess.org. Afterwards we hop on a call to analyze the game and provide some instructive value for the viewers.

Imo this is truly the best chess channel on YT. A 💎 in the rough with the influx on video chess content from this “new chess boom” (Hikaru, Levy, Danny, Daniel, Chessbrahs, Agad, Suren, CCSL, the Finegolds, Botez twins, Magnus, Anish, Chess24, etc. etc. etc.) Don’t get me wrong I watch all of them but it seems every time I am playing chess & remember a new idea, gambit, or line that will work in my position, it’s something I learned on this channel. This is the type of content chess players want to see... Not, say, a 9-part series arbitrarily ranking different openings or a new video to discuss recent Twitch drama. Eric is a master of walking that fine line between keeping it informative and also making it entertaining and accessible. Keep up the great uploads! Btw, I suffer from chronic depression and want to let you know your energy & positive, upbeat vibe is contagious and your videos are always uplifting & inspiring, thank you! 🙏

People commenting about twitch chat and cheers without understanding the purpose behind it. He's on the platform to entertain. To coach as well but it also garners more viewership when he gets in these situations especially the more popular his stream becomes he will get people to come back each time because of his spectacular commentary

Considering how long this video has been up, it should have more views for all of the following reasons: (a) the Orthoschnapp Gambit is fascinating; I'm learning about it for the first time today and this is the third consecutive video I've watched about it on this channel; (b) it's not every day that we see Eric play a GM; and especially (c) it's definitely not every day that we get analysis of the game from both Eric and his GM opponent. It's been a long time since I played,and I've never played online so I have no idea what my rating would be, but I've loved chess since I learned how to play as a kid.

Someone asked him about that and he said he wants to focus on coaching than GM. He was 3 norms away (at the time someone asked him). I've forgotten which video it came up, maybe one of the blitz tournament

@@joekelly7108 I understand, i had to look it up when i heard it too, I think this entry from wikipedia may help, "To qualify for the title of Grandmaster (GM) of chess, a title awarded by FIDE, the World Chess Federation, a player must achieve three grandmaster norms in events covering a minimum of 27 games. Norms can only be gained in tournaments that fulfill FIDE's strict criteria; for instance, the entry must include at least three GM titled players from different countries playing over a minimum of nine rounds with not less than 120 minutes thinking time per round. There are a number of other more minor stipulations, such as that an International Arbiter must be officiating the event. The norm seeker must achieve a tournament performance rating (TPR) of at least 2600 to qualify. FIDE publishes the current title regulations on its website."

Great going Eric 👍... It requires quite a courage to live stream while playing with strong opponents where there are every chances of you being crushed at their hands . But this is quite a learning for the viewers . Some people make sarcastic comments but I think they really do not mean it ... Let's appraise his efforts dear viewers . Its better to learn from others mistakes instead of suffering the same yourself in your important games.

I am at best a novice chess player and really haven't played in forever, but after watching Queens Gambjt and Queen of Katwe I have been watching random chess videos and yours always pop up as suggested videos so I typically check them out. The fact that you can see a bunch of moves in advance is awesome. I wish I could do something like that but sadly I'm not adept in chess. 😂

Doublemove chess. Invented in 1957 already! and it's been a classic chess variant for ages :) So much so that there's even some variants based on that one(although you can group them all as multimove chess), like progressive chess for example, where white gets 1 move, black gets 2, white gets 3 and so on. If you are interested in all these cool variants you should read up a bit on wikipedia's list of chess variants, which is pretty massive.
