People don’t have any idea what Cops must sacrifice for their families. No idea at all. My father was a Police Officer for 31 years. He graduated from the Academy and then hauled ass to San Marcos Texas to be their for my birth. In the early 80s Texas State Troopers were sent either to Del Rio El Paso or Beaumont to deal with the incredible increase in Drug and Human Trafficking. We had to move to El Paso which was unbelievably dangerous because of the Cartels. He worked his ass off and was promoted. We got to move to Houston then. My mother was hired by the FBI and they worked tirelessly. As a Police Officer you make nothing. Literally next to nothing, so almost ALL Cops take “extra jobs”. My Dads were always different but he enjoyed working added Police security for the Drag Strip in Baytown. Sometimes I would go and sit in the stands and watch all day while he worked. My mother had to take an extra job too before the FBI. So I couldn’t stay at home for fear of constant drug dealer retaliation. We lived paycheck to paycheck for a long long time. You have no idea what it meant to that Officer to have a gift like that from his family. As most parents especially Cop families would never buy anything for themselves and will always put the money for their families first.
