Terry Crews' acting in that scene with Holt talking about his daughters was incredible.

This is the first of a few incredible episodes that cover serious issues. This show is one of the best I’ve ever seen at dealing with serious things. Still manages to get the jokes in and doesn’t sound preachy

Jake and Amy awkwardly trying to answer Cagney’s and Lacey’s questions about what happened to Terry was so well done. The show has to balance a serious (and important) conversation of race and police within a sitcom, a genre in which its comedic, short-lived issues are it’s bread and butter. I think they did a great job doing that, especially given with later episodes on the same topics toward the series’ end.

Shows how great the writing is when they can have those very somber and serious moments while keeping the usual hilarious tone throughout the episode

Honestly might be one of the best sit com or even tv show episodes ever. The tone balance and writing in general is so good. I can’t help but come back to it every now and again

I know this sounds corny but I always tear up a bit 😢 at the flashback to “Little Terry” meeting the cop.
@jbearclowater
@jbearclowater Год назад
@@Jpew2007 you can tell that Terry Crews was drawing from his own trauma in his acting in this scene. When he was talking about his daughters, and his fears for them experiencing something like that, you can tell the actor was pulling from something deep. Probably some of the best acting Terry Crews has ever done, in my opinion.

You don’t expect sitcoms like these to tackle serious real world issues. But since the show is about cops I feel like they tastefully represented what this experience is like without coming across as unrealistic. It also shows the perspective from the police’s side which we rarely ever see.
@holdyourfire74

This episode came out in 2017 so yeah it was before 2020 when bad policing really became THE topic. But of course it's been a problem and national discussion topic for years and years. They do this a few more times going forward with other tough subjects. Each one to me has the perfect balance of seriousness and comedy. Terry Crews is so good in this. And I love how even Holt has to evaluate his actions and change his response. So good. Glad y'all got back to B99. I was getting a little worried you had quit. I guess there's just been too much other stuff lately to react to and talk about.

This is the first episode (that I remember at least) where the writters showed that they wouldn't shy away from real life issues. It is not the last time they do that, specially with later events the US had to deal with (won't say specifics for spoiler reasons). It was a great episode. Nine-Nine!!

For the record cops are not like that all over the world but it is really interesting seeing this episode from an outside perspective. It really seems like they captured the issues and the weight well in a very well rounded way. I like that Terry and Holt were on two opposite ends of the spectrum and both helped and influenced each other, and I especially love the part at the end where Terry was questioning if what he did was right, because a lot of the time with lots of different topics we try our best but even sometimes that might not work out, and your having to choose between one good and another or stoping one evil versus another. I just love the way they tackled it from so many angles it felt very real in the commentary they made about it. That is from my understanding though.

Until I saw this episode no other network comedy show I have ever seen (with cops as the main cast) ever had the balls to really dive deep into racist cops like this show did. Now even though I’m half Hispanic I’m also pasty white so I never had to deal with shit like this from cops, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to take that cops baton and bash every single one of his teeth in. Thank you Brooklyn 99 for talking about issues like this.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Nothing like training cops to hesitate in life/death situations or moments where they could have prevented a crime by asking questions because they should instead stop and consider if what they’re doing is racist or not.
