Obviously the fielding needs to be better but you can't significantly change skill levels mid season. I've captained many teams that were decidedly lower in skill than the opposition yet managed to get a number of wins with the following strategies. 1. Bowlers who move the ball open the bowling to take advantage no matter their pace 2. Bowlers must bowl at the stumps, nothing above the bails 3. Set a straight field, fine leg protection, extra cover sweeper and long on if required. 4. Be honest and be put your best fielders in the most likely spots 5. Bowlers bowling short get pulled immediately no field changes 6. Opening batsmen get through the first 10 overs at any cost no run pressure.
Brilliant analysis. My late father captained a team to a very unlikely championship (at a very high level) with a very similar philosophy in the early 70s. I was privileged to be the scorer and kind of privy to the thinking and culture of the team. It was not rocket science! But it was special and in a 20 year playing career i I only played myself in a similar team for one season... yes we won the league. Not the most talented, no super stars, just everything seemed 'right'.
Does George watch this footage back? If not he needs to. Back of length needs to be where he hits every ball. He causes so much trouble for the batsmen.
Very Proud day for me today drafted into ones at half 9 this morning making my first team debut opening batting with captain opening stand of 175 with myself picking up 87 then team winning good day all round
Should have been batting for a draw after 5 down. Run rate was far too high then and would have been good for morale if you’d get through the innings to save a draw especially against a team close to you in the table. Too many wickets thrown away. Great video as always though
It really isn’t fun is it when a losing streak is on. Such a shame as it’s evident a lot of the first team are capable - hopefully an eked our win somewhere can trigger a climb out of the doldrums. Need a ringer in who can hold an end up.
You guys need some specialist slips. All of them are standing upright with all the weight on their heals. Never gonna catch anything low like that. 1st and 2nd are absolute key positions at this level of cricket.
It's the same every week. Simon is the only actual slip catcher otherwise it's a rotation policy to see who can stand up straight the best. I'm pretty sure George walks in at slip
Having watched this a couple of times, feel Sanderstead need to focus on their fielding massively. For a first team playing in a high quality league pretty woeful. Wonder if Tricky would benefit from a spell in the 2nd or 3rd team in order to re discover the ability to bowl well, simply cannot afford to have that many gift balls week in week out. Also, despite it only being highlights, it really feels like Sanderstead are lacking a lot of energy and desire to win compared to previous seasons - see players body language, comments in the field - need a bit more hunger and drive. I agree with what's already been said, different team every week is not going to work well, very reflective of the England team in the late 80's and early 90's. A strong, settled squad will help. On the other hand, you could question if Division 2 is too high for Sanderstead? May be they are suited to division 3 or 4. Sympathise with George very challenging season so far as Captain and following Greg is not going to be the easiest shoes to fill. Finally, there is still time to turn things around but that's up to the lads who are playing each week. Take a bit of ownership of your game. Be proud of your club, get stuck in.
21:30 All you need is an A4 laminated sign with a '1' on one side and '2' on the other both at 150 font pitch + some blue-tack. Unless the opposition bat first when another sign with a '3' on it may be needed. If you wish I would be delighted to donate these to the cause and post them from darkest deepest Wales, I am sure you can find the blue-tack locally.
I’ve watched all your games from last season and this season and can only say I’m bitterly disappointed with the cricket I’ve seen this year... something HAS got to change. Different team every week...different order...is there problems in the changing room? What’s going on boys!
Really don’t understand the logic of always electing to bowl first you always seem to chase 220-260 and tbh your more likely to defend it than chasing it. Well last season most definitely! Don’t think George takes the note of conditions you can’t even post 150 let alone chase!
Pretty dossappinted I thought this game was very winable, unfortunate for Sandeep too injure himself, I think he wouldve been handy on that track if he could bowl. It was great too see Longcock back in the 1sts, he bowls so much better when he gives the balls some flight and takes the pace off the ball in my opinion. Train hard this week boys and the results will come soon.
Firstly, keep up the good work on the videos. Absolutely fantastic and a real treat for us clubbies on a Saturday evening. Regarding the performances, its difficult to properly assess how players play as its just high/lowlights but you can't win games scoring 117, either chasing or defending. I think you need a more circumspect opening pair/3/4 and try to get yourselves 40-1 off 15 rather than 70-4 off 15. Give yourselves a platform at least. You have some talented hitters but somebody needs to do the grind. Also on a turning deck you need spin variations, we regularly trot out a leftie, office and leggy so the ball is turning away from the bat in most circumstances. Bowling 3 offies doesn't give you much variation. Every club has limits on personnel so may have to green up those decks a little and play to your strengths! Good luck for the rest of the season you look too good a set of players to be bottom!
Re the bail staying on: I played a Sunday game for Aldridge II at Old Wulfrunians in Wolverhampton a few years ago. It was a very heavy, humid day. I *think* we were batting and I was scoring at the time: the ball hit the stumps, the bails flew up and BOTH landed on top of off and leg stump respectively. Not out!
Would just like to say that i have discovered your site on youtube. Really enjoy the commentary and cricket from here in Berlin. Used to play myself as a young bloke living in Kent. Miss the cricket out here. Along with yourselves also watch another team in the Sussex league called Three Bridges CC. They have no commentary so yours is more fun. Dont know what is going to happen this summer. Will really miss the cricket, as much as you guys playing. All the best and hope you are back playing soon. Dave Gay in Berlin
Thanks Dave - glad to keep you entertained in Berlin. Lovely city! Three Bridges are a top team - Sussex Prem - agree a little commentary would give their vids that next level ingredient. But they film it so well and the cricket is superb.
@@SandersteadCCTV thanks and agree the cricket in the Sussex league is good, and they have some great players that i could compare as county standard. However, your presentation and the excellent commentary, with the extra titbits(after abandoned games for example) makes for very interesting viewing. Am i too understand that you have been unfortunately relegated, and will be playing div3 when the cricket finally begins again. Whatever happens look forward to the next videos, be it sooner or later. Great stuff and thanks Dave Gay in a sunny Berlin
@@shareefhassan1942 Apologies - Dan's camera angle made it appear that you'd played around it. Using 0.5X playback setting I take your point. Trouble is, there was a momentary gate , and the delivery got through it. Your previous stroke was gorgeous, though.
19:05 Great minds think alike, using a spinner to open the bowling in conditions like this is totally valid. As long as he/she did not have coffee cake at tea.
Just watched it without sound..it’s shocking seeing the fielding standard and then watching all the show ponies just chucking their wickets away is like Groundhog Day.Week after week the same players get out doing the same stuff....come on sanderstead in the words of Delia “let’s be aving you “, start fighting !!
There is nothing more frustrating then watching guys who have great potential and talent in this squad not being able to bowl proper line and lengths and the batsman giving there wicket away, someone needs to teach them to build an innings and target certain bowlers, sharef is a perfect example play such good shots but then gives it away he would easily be the leading run scorer if he kept his head down instead of playing stupid shots to good balls seems like no one has the patience anymore.
With all the drop catches Sanderstead shouldn't have been chasing more than 200. The batting has really gone downhill, no one can bat time anymore. Bring back Christie and yogie.
Hmmm regarding the bail being dislodged but not falling off the stumps, the wicket is considered broken “if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps” - Law 29.1.1. Watching that, the bail was out of the groove but still perched on top of the stump. I’d suggest that’s not “completely removed”, so correct decision was reached...
We immigrants had Nutella in our childhoods. Mine was supplied by Jimmy the Macaroni Man, who would drive his Delicatessen converted Bedford Van around the various Italian families houses in South East London. He went on to open Gennaro's Deli in Lewisham. An establishment that is still open but under different ownership. Both he and his brother played semi and professional football here and in Italy.
The first team do look demoralised especially in the batting depth! I would just suggest the top 6 stop trying to hit every ball for 4 and to look after their wickets for the first 35-40 overs and then take it from there! As Sir Geoffrey said, you can't score runs in the pavilion! A top 6 bat needs to go in with a clear game plan!
Disappointing but the sun will come up tomorrow. It will take some self awareness and introspection by the "star players" to turn the season around. If you want to do the best you can then you need to pay attention to the basics - fielding well, batting in partnerships and bowling line and length. Haven't seen much of these things all season for the first XI. Strangely though there has been some signs of these things in the second XI. Go figure.
Looking at the body language here in the field: the slip fielders are acting confused a bit (I think they were not close enough) and some tough chances didn't go your way which hurts morale a bit.
I do like watching these videos.! But today’s pissed me off.!! GIVE THE KEEPERS LONG SLEEVED SHIRTS.!! 😡😤 and don’t even get me started on how scruffy the oppos keeper was 🙄🤣
Questions to be asked across the board. Batting pretty gutless once again. Bowling is inconsistent at best, and decision making on bowlers makes no sense. We get Tricki and George did a season down under and they are both quality quicks, but should not bowl many overs at home. Less said about the fielding the better. Had been wanting to come down and watch with my team pulling themselves out of our league half way through the season; but I think I’ll avoid the train costs.
I'm back on depression pills today, nothing to do with the result it's because another weekend without the Adonis that goes by the name of Tyler. In answer to your questions: Marmite and some serious nets for all.
@@SandersteadCCTV Just watching ENG v. NZ Test along side PAK v. AUS... Thought came to mind... So please let me know who are some of your club players' favorite Batsmen & Bowlers from around the world?
Lots of negative comments on here today which is unfortunate but I guess inevitable. My only observation would be that not enough SCC deliveries are going on to hit the stumps and the most reliable bowlers (Greg this week, and Sandeep previously) bowled straight and pitched it up! George clearly has wheels but virtually nothing he bowls will hit the poles and that basically makes what he does a complete waste of effort and his bowling much less dangerous. Only half way in the season though, so here's hoping for better results going forward. Nice merch too, may have to invest in a T-shirt! And in 35 years of club cricket I have never seen a bail end up on the stump like that! Really unlucky. Nice to see the umpires get the decision right though. Good luck next week!
VEGEMITE !!!! Mentality of the team is negative!! Winning the toss and bowling tells me you don’t want to be skittled!! Sledging your own team, funny once, cancer the next ! Control the controllables! Attitude/effort. I thought the duke ball swung! Christie maybe needs to return and open ! No Imports available? Still great to watch tho. Keep the vids coming.
One word for that batting performance pathetic either josh needs to shut up or start playing well bloke thinks he’s better then everyone else we’ll prove it
Personally, that's out, the bail is dislodged, it's not in its normal position so it's out, not sure what the rules are for that happening but that's my opinion
surely you have someone in the club with the mentality to bat all day for 80 not out then the rest can flail away to get 80 from the other end at least ull get 160 still wont need that 2 though
I don’t really see what should of changed from a rather successful season in 2018. Sam shouldn’t be opening the batting end of especially as he keeps, he is a fine middle order batsmen.
Enough is enough now! Halfway through the season and things look like they're going from bad to worse. Jackson is a fantastic player but a god awful captain - fielding positions, team selection, batting order, bowling changes are all dreadful #TimeForAChange #Relegation #WengerOut
24:00 Left arm chinamen? So rare, perhaps there should be a call made to a reputable cryogenics purveyor. Such special talent must be preserved for posterity.
@@001phila But he's a bowler, yes he's a good bat but asuming an injured knee also comes with reduced mobility can you really carry a slightly worse than normal fielder, who can't do his chief role in the team, just for his batting?
