Love that you’re doing these videos and this is not a precision statement, but in a traverse, when you move station forward, you don’t take the kegs with you. You rake the head and set up a new forward station. Then put a prism on your existing legs in back sight. Makes plumb and level much faster.

Rami that part of video taken by drone you started from REF BS, But at the end setting on pink instead of ending with REF FS you did Green FS . could you please explain why? Thanks (Shokran)
@RamiTamimi
@RamiTamimi 3 года назад
Hi Bahram, this is a preference that I like to do. The REF point is not a part of my Traverse, but I am referring to it to begin my traverse. My Traverse of control are the colored points, so I closed back at the original point to find the change in X and Y from the initial measurement. Now if REF is apart of my traverse control, then yes I could close back at it. Good Question!

Wow, this should have a bunch more likes and comments. The work is good and the demo is nice. Here is a problem, say you setup at a known point but the one you must locate is over a hill out of view. So how do you find it from just that one point? I have seen this happen to more than one person who needed to put up a fence line but could not see the other side. Is there a way for a common man to do it without a instrument that cost over a 1000 dollars?
@RamiTamimi
@RamiTamimi 3 года назад
Why thank you, hopfully one day we will have more exposure to more views. To answer your question, it depends on what you need to locate. Sounds like you need horizontal coordinates since you are putting up a fence. When it's over a hill, you'll probably need a total station to traverse over and to the other side of the hill, just like I did in this video. Surveying can be done with just a tape and compass, but your accuracy may not be as good as our robotic insterments.

Hi rami , thank you for this amazing content and i have question please which as i have Topcon robotic total station DS series and i did travers survey and then took my side shots and control points and now i want to know if it is ok to do travers adjustment and include level and sideshot adjustment before i send my topo survey which wilp change the coords of some points including control points or what is the next step please
@RamiTamimi
@RamiTamimi 2 года назад
You can perform the adjustment in the office and if you leveled through all the control points, add them into your data set. Remember, the adjustment that happens with Horizonal points (X,Y) and Vertical points (Elevation) are different and should not be done together.
@Alaskaislarger
@Alaskaislarger 3 года назад
Good work. My only advice is set up the tripod and put the legs into the ground before you put the instrument on it. You would be suprised how you would get the hang of it quickly. We were always taught to do it this way and the robot or total station stays in adjustment better.
@RamiTamimi
@RamiTamimi 3 года назад
Fair point. I was taught to put the total station first in order to get over the point. If you step on the legs and your 2 feet away from the point, you're going to have to pull the legs out, adjust them, and have to step on them again. What do you usually do in this situation?
@Alaskaislarger
@Alaskaislarger 3 года назад
@@RamiTamimi Once you get experienced setting up tripod you can eyeball it really well. Make sure the head of tripod looks level and is somewhat over your trav. point. drop a rock or use your plumb bob. We dont let our employees dance with the instrument on it. If you just had a tri-brak on the tripod that would be ok. I have taught plenty of new hands to do it this way.....and even old ones! I'm retired now. Try it.

LOL. As I pull out my carlson RTK receiver and get the Leice robot out all I can say is , when I was an eye man in the 90s we still did it this way. As a real field tech and land surveyor you try to make the least amount of set ups to bring your error down. You add extra error every time you set up and turn your backsight angle. It is true that this guy's technique is old school kinda standard, for professional purposes this takes to long this way unless you have no choice. With the equipment today I can do a final in less than an hour. This way takes you a lot longer. Also no one I know uses colors for point id's. That is probably the strangest thing. I use field to finish software on my RT controller , so I draw the deed or plat up before I do any of this. So I can localize my GPS and find your property corners in minutes. Not seconds. And no . I do not need GPS to do a survey. It just saves a lot of time.

Great video the production quality is pretty good !!! I have a question for you Why do you have to completely disassemble and reassemble the total station every single time you move? Also, random question but by working as a land surveyor could there be any long term health effects to your body from carrying the equipment around? lol :)
@RamiTamimi
@RamiTamimi 3 года назад
Thank you, I really try and put in a lot of effort to produce high-quality content. You do need to disassemble every time when performing a traverse. Now the yard I'm working in is small so it may seem unnecessary, but in the industry, you could traverse around buildings or mountains and so picking up the instrument is important so you could see the other side of the obstruction. Working outside has a lot of great benefits. I've seen my immune system get a lot stronger, and my physical strength remains strong. A lot of older surveyors are very healthy from being outside and exposed to nature. However, there is some heavy lifting that is done, and if you are overworked, you could develop some health problems. Definitely see a doctor if that is happening.

Negative, disassembling between setups is unnecessary, I believe the NSPS may even have a recommendation on how to carry an instrument on a set of legs. Long term effects can include prolonged expose to elements, primarily the sun, which may result in melanoma, but I have only known a few surveyors that have dealt with that. Construction, agricultural, or mining, you may be exposed to chemicals or natural elements in the soil, so, before soil sampling is done on a site, keep in mind, you are staking points to where those bore holes are going to be dug for the soil sampling. Boron, Radon, Etc... Some mining operations for surveying will provide you will detection units if you are exposed to too much of whatever element is present.

It's a good safety measure. It's mainly based on your budget. If you have back-up machines in case of a trip and fall, leave it on for speed sake. If it's the only one you have and you have to send it off to recheck calibration, box it before moving. It's not worth losing days of down time to save a few minutes.
