Good review ! I have two U.S. Army entrenching tools from WWII along with two Army issued woodsman Pal's my dad just gave them to me when I was a kid. The shovels are great heavy especially the handle work great ! The woodsman pal is disappointing like my dad said they look like it was designed by a committee and perform equally as bad. Agree on survival Lilly , she struts around like she is a national treasure of Austria 🤓 and the knife she designed and promotes to put in kindly she's a crow that follows many plows" in the design . 🤓
The original model has a large steel spike in the handle for manual landmine disarming. You can also order the shovel sharpened (although it would still have a tapered edge) Although this model has a very solid construction for heavy-duty use, my personal choice would still be a shorter traditional non-foldable entrenching tool for reliability in long terms
Another blinder of a review. That's a very nice entrenching tool, talk about multi, multi, multi purpose!!! As it's army issue, they no doubt use it in self defence too. A proper bit of kit.
@@madawcofarreat2348 I haven't noticed a change in her over time, though I don't watch her videos all the time. Germans can be a bit blunt by European standards.
I own one of these and i probably would only use it as a shovel or cutter. I would not use it as an axe. I'd rather bring my axe or hatchet to process wood. It is surprisingly strong though. Tolerances are pretty good and I think its supposed to be rate somewhere in the 50s rockwell hardness range.
This is the best entrenching tool out there hear me out. Its a WJQ-308 as far as i know Dave your vids are really informative and entertaining. You have a new subscriber 😄
maybe you want to try searching "wjq 308" (i.e. text labelled on the wooden handle, on 4:40 -ish) on the websites that sells Chinese goods (AliExpress, Wish, DHgate, dx.com, etc.)... or even Amazon
The sawing aspect was left out does it work or is it like most a great disappointment every thing else seems to work and very well great review. Sounds to me like you need to work on your cardio even at my 76 years can't remember being that winded .
@@verysurvival That seems to be the case worth all of the 3 I have bought over the years . I hve gotten rid of all of them and keep my dad's ww2 shovel has never lit any of us down and at 76 now I have zero need for another shovel.great review though . On the running my brother in law in the Czech Republic retired now but spends his winters on an exercise bike for about 15 minutes to an hour depending on his mood been doing that now for about 18 years so he's ready for spring .he has had knee surgery to much soccer but the bike helps everything from locking up and he said it was the best thing he ever did for his health.
pity there was no navigation items at that famous u tube camp you found because after that wife/moose comparison you may find your spending more time their than you bargain on. maybe the defensive drawing will come in handy after all. (lol)
@3:01 Biggest mistake EVER. Ok, I know you set this up but, although a thoughtful Bushcrafter would have maybe left some basic survival items behind for the next person, isn't it a VERY BAD idea to drink water straight from a container when you do NOT in reality know how long that water (Or is it) has been hanging around? It was a lot of fun to watch & probably a lot of fun to make too.
he might know different varieties of the shovel that were actually issued. However, this is still military grade as it is produced in the same factory that made the issues gear. Never expect a military issued piece of gear to come in a nice commercial - looking box. Chinese issued gear either come with no packaging or just a plain package with a line of words describing the basic information such as issue number. There are three main factories that make these shovels, they have small variations and also different designs. Mine is from a factory from the northern area and it is the one with a mine disarming spike.
