Wow! You have just created The Perfect field craft video! No obnoxious intro (deer at wikiup, perfect!) Concise, quick speaking. Video samples of each item. Post- production to the millisecond. We 62- year-olds appreciate these things. So many other videos waste my time with "their feelings" and "their 5 minute video selfies". Seriously, you should teach a course in video construction! Excellent work. Thank you!
Just remember if you have Cpl Kelly as your instructor that will be great, he is a great instructor and a marine, and you know that all marines idolize army vets................
While stationed at Ft Lewis, my buddy introduced me to Logan (Tactical Tailor) in 96. Logan made some alterations to an extra ruck I had (still have it today) that I used in the field and on every deployment for the following 15 years. That set up is awesome.
Did U serve in VDV (air-descent forces, rangers) of USA? Respect My son in 18 years old next year will go to VDV of Russia. I'm proud of him. Them slogan of VDV is "Nobody Except Us" I was in Air Forces of USSR in 1988-89, specialist by engine and plane of soviet jet L-29 like US's T-33. It was my very good year in Soviet Army.
When they say 70% wool and 30% other, i think the 30% is pubic hair lol. Good luck to you man. You are a good instructor and I think you'll do well. Thank you for your service.
Hey brother, congrats on kicking ass at the intermediate class! I was there too, We talked about our trips to Iraq in 2006 and you gave me some good tips on bow drill. You set a great example at the class for sure, I hope to get to train with you again, take care!
Awesome brother! Thank you that means a lot! It was great training with you and the other guys we definitely had an outstanding class! I’ll see you around and don’t hesitate to contact me for anything especially if you think I can help! Take it easy brother!
Hey Andrew, amazing content! Could you talk about clothing in your next vid, specifically what worked well for the conditions you were in, it’s a major part of success in the field.
Happy Veterans Day to you Andrew, here in Australia we call it Armistice Day, which for us was yesterday. I have a son serving in the ADF 2/14 Light Horse, to say I'm proud of him would be an understatement, the army has certainly made a man out of him. Good luck with your upcoming course and thanks for the video 👍🏻🍻🇦🇺
Thanks to your son for serving! My old command sergeant major was an Australian on assignment as a foreign swap. I remember on Anzac Day he held a party after a ceremony at the National Infantry Museum on Fort Benning and invited everyone from the command. It was blow out hell of a party!
Ranger Survival and Field Craft ANZAC day for most Aussie's is the biggest day of the year, unfortunately this year we couldn't celebrate it in the usual manner. This year we lite candles and stood on our driveways at the crack of dawn and listened to the last post on our phones and gave a minutes silence, it was a sight to behold. There are people here of a certain political persuasion that want ANZAC day banned and the more they complain the more people show up at dawn services each year lol. It's our way of thanking the brave servicemen and women past and present of all nations for there service and sacrifice, and thank you Andrew for your service.
Nice shout out to military families, although I realize I'm watching this several months later. So few civilians realize the sacrifice the family makes. The phone rings, you grab your shit and say goodbye. I was never deployed in combat, served all 4 years during the only time we weren't at war with someone but all we did was train. You'd leave and maybe come back that day or maybe next month. A salute to military members AND their families! Love your videos.
Thanks for sharing what you’re bringing to the upcoming course. I think your videos that look at specific kits and lists are some of my favorite on RU-vid now. Also, I appreciate your editing, particularly the cut-aways that you do to show something. Nice work!
If they ask you to drink your own urine tell them no and go home .. good luck and God bless you and your family and happy camping trip. I say trip cos my survival course was being dumped in the middle of Belize with a knive and just a pair of shorts and told to go 50 miles across jungle and sharp rocks to get to a rendezvous area . Mind you back then anything was aloud ... Thank God for progress 🙏.. .. lee
Great pack up Andrew. You've got some great tools there. That solo pot is awesome. That malice pack is great as well. I've heard nothing but good things about them. Always thought about sending my Med alice to TT to get the upgrades but haven't yet. Good luck on the training. I'm sure you'll do awesome. Nate
@@RangerSurvivalandFieldCraft you do know that while coffee does have its health benefits it is also on the low end of the speed spectrum for drugs... LOL
May I recommend that you pack a second headlamp and batteries and keep in your pocket when doing night ops. I was watching another channel and the student had his headlamp malfunctioned and the instructor failed him for not being able to perform bow drill at night do to no light. Remember TWO IS ONE AND ONE IS NONE.
Hi John I have a Biolte rechargeable headlamp I also have the Campstove 2 which really is for boiling water in it's massive kettle it has a TEG in it so power from heat and doubles as a power bank which I can charge my lamp with in the field I to have been cought with dead batteries plus I have a separate power bank so if I'm on the move with tasks about camp and light flickers it can charge whilst I work on said tasks
Practice by feel and smell and sound. Wear a blindfold occasionally. It's not nearly as hard as you think. Plus the ember gives good signals of progress in pitch black. Obviously without the blindfold. Just a thought. Also a great time killer. Lol!
@@RangerSurvivalandFieldCraft lol. Guess they all have similar requirements these days. That bow saw screams Karamat out of Alberta though :) I'll have to add Pathfinder to the list, just north of me!
Happy Veterans Day to you as well and thank you for your service and commitment to our country. I was going to take a 6x8 canvas tarp but changed to an 8x8 oil skin. Thanks for sharing your gear list. Great channel!
Cool pack! Best of luck on the course brother ( embrace the suck, eh!? 🇨🇦 lol. ) 👍 Ps, the Tops F.O.R.K.IT tool makes a good backup/neck knife/spork. Just a thought.
+100500 BUT! WHERE SUBTITLES? Subtitles are very useful for people who not from english-speaking countries. Hello from Russia-Siberia-Altay! We are watching You!
Awesome. Enjoy the course. Intermediate was a lot of fun. I barely remember needing my hatchet. Pack weight was the main hurdle for a lot of guys. There are lots of projects and they all add up on the overall pack load. The MALICE pack looks great. I modded my large ALICE similarly. It was my first pack and still my favorite if I am in the woods for any length of time. Happy Veterans Day and thank you for your service.
Thank you! I was actually just watching your review the other night on the course! Good information, I'll remember that and be sure to do a follow-up to see how our experiences compare and contrast. Yeah, old faithful ALICE pack is the way to go! Thanks for the comment and support!
Thank you for your service! With a few assumptions, could you do an additional video of your actual trip to (Ohio?) flying or driving? I’m trying to figure out both from Colorado. Thanks for your great videos!
Other than manning up getting stronger hands, is there a way to make bankline off the roll easier to work with? Just got the first bit I have ever worked with and man it’s stiff as a board. Trying to tie knots in it is a pita
I know exactly what you mean! LOL! Try a toggle when you tighten lashings or knots. Leave some excess line and wrap a small stick with it and pull the stick to tighten the cordage.
Good luck with your training & thanks for sharing your pack list of required items. I just bought myself a mora garberg & I cant wait to get in the field this weekend. Ive got to make a buck saw now for sure.
The only thing I’d take is pots, blankets/tarps, and fire capability, along with a water source, blankets, and maybe some fresh or dried foods. I never use cordage, axes, saws, multi-tools, or multiple fire methods. I will however besides my lighter, carry weather-proof matches and cotton balls in a waterproof bag inside a dry-sack inside my pack, just in case. USB Headlamp and mini lantern a must.
1st of all thank you for your service to our country. I just found your channel and subscribed. Good luck on your next school trip. Stay safe my new friend
That pack just makes me think of "light infantry" haha. Hows your back holding up? My knees are killing me. Older I get the lighter my gear gets now! Love the gear dump and snipits of skills. Truly enjoying all the content you have to offer bud! Ever find my way out your neck of the woods, I'll buy ya a round. Keep on keepin on!
Thank you for the example of hard work that you definitely set. I like the pot with the bail, lid, handle, and pour spout. It may fit in a butt pack for a patrol harness. I would maintain that many women will like it. The little Scandinavian hatchet is a popular carry tool with Northern woods loafers (like me). The hatchet and saw blade much enable building a strong, secure, and durable shelter, where viable. One woolen blanket of the best is the traditional thick, white Scottish blanket. 2 of them do beat 1 for a winter, plus a skookum wife, obviously, and/or a hot water bottle.
Now if I don't have a full tang knife could I use my old faithful stainless steel butcher knife. I have knife I use everyday in my kitchen the butcher knife and pairing knife . And just got my mothers stainless steel knife. She used for skinning and peeling potatoes And boning fish.
We don't have any courses like that this side of the pond unfortunately I'd really enjoy a survival training course just to learn the valuable skills it take to survive in the bush.
Here's a link to the watch. It's the G-Shock XL Series OD Green. I prefer both an analogue and digital watch for survival and training purposes. Had the tan one for several years through a lot of training and it finally broke on me. Re-up'd and got the OD Green. Highly recommend! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073ZJLSRW/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=rangersurviva-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B073ZJLSRW&linkId=434db71049d3d9818dfbbfd2e1e577eb
I'd reach out to the school for their recommendations on non-wool blankets that would be acceptable for the course. They are pretty good about making acommodations.
@@RangerSurvivalandFieldCraft fair enough. roycraft deserves more recognition anyway. in case anyone is interested, the vid i meant is "who is tom roycraft" on mors' channel.
Hey I just got into survival. I need basic training. I am in Ohio. Are there in any beginner survival courses in my neck of the woods. Or do I have to travel out
