Just booked my flight from DFW to Tokyo for next year on a 787. I'll be landing in Haneda but this video really gives me a feeling of what to expect. Very well done!
I have flown with Japan Airlines (JAL) a few times from Boston to Narita, the seats are roomy and foods were good as well. My latest trip with JAL was in Dec 2022 and I had to change airport from NRT to HND for a connecting flight, had a nice sushi meal at the train station before taking a monorail to Haneda airport.
Thanks for this! I fly American domestically all the time, but rarely international, and I’m going to Singapore next summer so this helped with making the choice! I’m flying JAL’s A350 to heneda and then a 767 to Singapore!
"Quite disappointing" is American Airlines new theme. They've become the Greyhouse (Bus) of the skys and unless you are flying on them weekly don't expect to be able to amass enough points to ever get a decent upgrade.
That k you so much for this amazing video, will be my first time there so I'm a little bit nervous, i didn't know how was a flight of 13 hours, i appreciate that show all 👌 🙏
I have this same flight coming up next month as the first half of a JAL Codeshare to Ho Chi Minh City. Two big plusses, in my estimation. First, DFW, my favorite big U.S. airport! So easy to get around in and such a terrific layout (and I'm staying at Grand Hyatt night before, which is attached to Terminal D.) Other "biggie" is the 787. Never flown an A350, but have done 14+ hours in 777's and, believe me, the better pressurization on the 787 makes a noticeable difference! But, yeah...13+ hours.
I get you. In 2005,after connecting into Chicago from Miami, the flight about 3 1/2 hrs, it was 14 hrs nonstop on a United 777-200 to Tokyo Narita. My return to the US was 14 1/2 hrs nonstop from Hong Kong to Chicago and another 4 from Chicago to Miami.
Just booked a flight originating from YYZ flying AA and connecting to DFW then onwards to HND flying JAL with 1 hr and 10 minutes. Do I need to re-check my bags when I get to DFW or do I just go straight to my assigned Terminal and Gate?
Lmao. Dude, the people in front of you can feel every time you bang and pull that tray table. Be a little bit more considerate if there’s someone in the seat while doing that.
Sept 2022 I took a feeder airline into Ohare, to Haneda with destination of BKK. Because of being up all night before my flight I went to the airport 3 hours early, it was a very small airport. Someone came out and noticed me sitting, waiting and offered to check me in early. Was a very good thing in reality. It took 2 hours for them to figure out how to let me go when i didn't have visa for Tokyo, i had 19 hour layover. I tried to tell them I wasn't exiting in Tokyo and could not exit the airport in Tokyo as I did not meet covid requirements. Calls to supervisors didn't help. Finally, she entered that I did have valid visa and I was then good to go. She did say she would probably get in trouble for what she did but was the only way she could figure out on how to get me to fly that day. Not sure what your issues were but being it was about same time I went if you had a long layover it probably flagged that as a problem. I wasn't on American on that trip but am using them later this year for same trip. Actually flying Japan Airlines under a code share with American.
That last part is quite interesting. I flew with JAL ORD-NRT in Sept.2021 and when we arrived in NRT, we didn't really have an escort to the transfer desk. We were able to go to our gate after deplaning.
I live in Houston but got the AA credit card because I wanted to fly with JAL to Tokyo but when I try to book an award flight it’s only giving me AA but UA still gives me the option to fly ANA , sometimes even Lufthansa if I’m daring enough. What a let down
If you book revenue tickets, it is common for the JAL DFW-NRT flights to be sold as a AA codeshare flight and often the same price as the AA operated DFW-NRT flight
My flight JAL code share AA DFW to NRT, next week. I don’t get a real answer as what desk should J go to checking in at DFW airport. Is it JAL or AA counter? Called both airlines have 2 different answer. I’m clueless.
Welcome to Bangkok. I live here. I often fly this route, but with the coronavirus restrictions, it's been 2 years since I've flown anywhere. Do you have to self quarantine on arrival in Bangkok?
Just got off an American Airlines flight from Haneda to DFW. Plane was full but at least I had an aisle exit seat. Seat was uncomfortable, food was dismal, and FAs all seemed headed for the glue factory. They had little enthusiasm for their work and their fat assess keep hitting my shoulder when they waddled down the aisle. I hate flying US carriers. Even Russian service is better. Last time
I just flew through NRT on my way to BKK (2nd time flying through NRT). You don't go through immigration. You have to go through a security check point specially for transitting flyers. Of course that's for international transfers, may be different for connecting within Japan.
@@chadd9748 Thanks! was your flight from NRT to BKK on the same itinerary as your flight to NRT, or did you self connect by buying two separate tickets?
@@Lighthousefamily32 same ticket purchase through JAL. First leg was on AA. Flight from NRT to BKK was on JAL. After the transit security area they made us go to the transfer desk (in the same area) where they checked vax cards. Didn't have to go to the transfer desk on the return though.
@@AidenParker Hey! It was really pleasant. The staff were lovely and the food was decent. I would suggest an aisle seat because it can be a very long time to not stand. I made time to stand every 2-3 hours. They have an area where you can stand and stretch. Lots of free movies and entertainment. I got wifi on the way to Japan but it wasn't really worth it.. Didn't work that well so I skipped it on the way home. Sorry if this was a long reply but overall, I'd fly with American again!
Anytime an airline routes you through an airport it’s their (HUB) base. Several year’s ago my family and I, we flew an airline that made us route through Minnesota international airport. From there flew overseas and that was terrible doing the international check-in with our luggages twice. We had to move all our luggages from literally one side to the far other side reaching nearly the end of the that terminal for the gate.
Did AA at least offer its passengers a choice of pre-ordering their meals, regardless of class flown on this flight? If not, AA has really nose-dived into the abyss. Good video.
@@KINGJAPAN12 I know it’s opened for tourism, what I don’t know are their requirements such as masks. Better to check with the airline usually they have added links to that information.
It opened in June for guided tours. Not free tourism. You have to be on a tour. There are only a couple companies that offer the tours in the “soft opening” and they’re roughly 2k per person per week.
Most airlines follow a standard meal service schedule. On BA, flying ORD-LHR, even with a 9pm departure, it's dinner and light breakfast. Frankly, I would have preferred no dinner and a large breakfast. On the return, LHR-ORD, even with a 4:30 departure, it was dinner and snack. I would have preferred afternoon tea and dinner.
I flew this route recently and the cabin crew was trash DFW-NRT. I got up at one point to stretch in the back of the plane (like I always do on long flights) and a female FA told me I had to remain seated. I said, "Even when the seatbelt light is off?" She said "yes". So you expect me to stay in my seat for 13+ hours and not stretch!? On the same flight, I ordered a Jack with ice and the male FA that was serving me said something under his breath (passive aggressively) about working in a bar. Total trash service. Fly JAL this route if you can.
To cut a long story short: We have a choice - that's the good thing! We flew AA a lot back in the 1980's and 90's. After flying JAL we have refused flying AA anymore. Whenver our plans call for travel today our first choices are JAL, KLM, Air France, Saudia, Delta or Thai - depending up on the destination we're going. Thanks for sharing your terrible experience with us. AA is no competition not just for JAL but also in any else market. American became a real nightmare on both, the ground and in the air. 👎👎👎👎 Thats why we're glad to have a choice!
Wow, so jealous of your Tokyo trip! Can't wait for all travel restrictions to be lifted so I can visit the world again. For now just I've been uploading domestic trip reports. Haven't been to Narita since early 2017. - Red
