This is how you learn, mistakes happen . I am 73 years old, have always done DIY projects. I still make mistakes. That's life. Be proud that you both are self sufficient and are ambitious,and are willing to work hard to make your life better. Always enjoy your videos.

Two things: 1) I used to work with Southerns who assured me, "It doesn't matter what happens in life if you get a story out of it." And 2) I've heard that funny = tragedy + time. On your 50th anniversary you're gonna look back at this and just laugh and laugh.

As a perfectionist I totally get you. Whenever (rarely tho) I screw up something my solution has always been to FIX IS ASAP. It's just going to be a hell until I do, and people trying to be nice and saying "It's fine, nobody will notice" doesn't help at all.

Oh man, so sorry this happened. Don't beat yourselves up too badly. I think anyone who has done a lot of DIY projects has been in your shoes once or twice. Kudos to you both on how you handled the situation. The fence does look amazing and I look forward to seeing the completed project. Much love!

You inspire me to do my own fence. Dont worry, it is always easier the second time! Hopefully its like when you forget to save a word document and then your computer crashes. When it happens you are aggravated but when you re-type it is much easier because you remember what you learned the first time. PS I really hope i see you on the street sometime.

OMG this is so what happens with DYI. These projects take a special skill and it is called how to cover up a mistake and make it look flawless. I tried to frame a wall - sounds simple just like the fence?? LOL the 3rd time going up I was out of my mind. It got done but the drywall guys were laughing so hard. I am called the fatal flaw pessimist. It just a mater of time until it hits you in the face.

My partner and I paid to have our fence put up on our property line based on the original survey. Then the HOA came and told us that it was 8 inches onto our neighbors property and we had to pay again to have it all taken down and moved 8 inches. So fence f**k ups happen lol. But God I was upset. Thankfully, Mark is the much, much calmer one in our relationship lol

Oh sweetie's - we've been there with unexpected screw-ups after a ton of hard work. Y'all did so well with just getting away from the house, not blaming each other, crying, eating ice cream, and a good night's sleep. Nothing can't ever be 'undone', but it's still a huge ego blow. You should've seen the first replacement window we decided we could do ourselves during full house rehab - Oy Vey. What a mess. Just try to keep your sense of humor about it, get it fixed, and have a cocktail. Luv yah. Jim and Tom. XO

LOL it wasn't so much that it wasn't perfect, it was that the pieces literally couldn't reach the post and everything was already cut and finished. There was no remedy!

If this happened to me, I'd be like well, that sure sucks, and then I'd be on the phone to a fence contractor to come and fix my fuck up. I've done that before on home renovation projects. I thought oh, this won't be hard, I'll do it. And then it gets so fucked up I just had to throw in the towel and call a professional! I am NOT a handyman!
