As a flight attendant I can confirm this is true even tho you should of gone behind or slightly open the door to extinguish the fire 😊👍 and also check out the window on the exit door before opening it 😂

Did you try checking the toilets for passengers? Also, if I'm not mistaken the pilot actually needs to give the go ahead to leave the plane first before you actually leave...just in case there is a reason why it is not safe to do so. Other than that I think you did well.
