I love this. No language, no barriers. Just those of us who love the mountains, the snow, the freedom of camping. Good food, a bottle of wine and just enough warmth to get by. All that is needed, thank you for sharing.
@@thatsfunny7729 yeah but not out in th middle of no where; just imagine the stink of a dump made on the snow, a huge mound over time, frozen pee icicles, soiled newspaper blowing, and all - it all adds to global warming, what about the animals?
I agree with you. This isn't a snowstorm at all. Just remember that the camera can sometimes trick the eye though. It makes it look like there isn't much snow or rain falling.
In early times , when I was a younger , I had the same VW . My family , three boys and wife, made a lot trips and cooking , washing and sleeping was an adventure. Now , I am 73, when I see you in your adventure…. I dreaming still in our VW bus… Many thanks for sharing your video. Greetings from us in Holland 🌷🌷
I’m a 73 yr. old woman, & I loved my trips all over Calif. & Pacific N.W. with my 1967 Westfalia. It is for sale now, & I want to sell it to someone who will enjoy it like this. Best days of my life!!
@Jan Nitert thank you, I can imagine all of that & it made me smile 😊 My kids are all out of the house as of this year & like so many I'm facing, nowhere to live. I've been without a vehicle for over 4 yrs, but had a house & one teen left. Now I'm praying for an inexpensive car or van or?? & will most likely be without a house. Only thing that worries me isn't worldly things but my kitties.. without them.. well ya know. Anyway thank you for your comment .. if you can do that with kids maybe I can do it with kitties 😺 🙏
@@terribelle3 sure! Your kitties will have a fine place in such a van as VW California. I had a VW California in the seventies and eighties and later In the nineties. We allways had a hunting dog in our van. Place enough. I saw sometimes that somebody’s had there kitty on a line for walking. So, don,t hastitate, and make a try. It will succeed. In this moment we travel whit our camper . Good luck Jan. 🌷🌷
Thank you. After learning the best way to stay warm (knee hi nylon socks!) And eating meat and carbs (fuel for the body), plus staying hydrated, it brought me many fond memories. If you layer your sleeping area with rugs and blankets, and maybe newspaper, to block the air, plus totally change into clean undergarments before sleeping, you will stay warmer. I camped in -22°F comfortably, as long as there was no cold air around my bedding or in my sleeping bag. I kept my clean clothes around my feet, and it kept my feet warm and I dressed in warm things in the morning.
❤ thank you so much for having no annoying loud disruptive music going on while we're trying to concentrate and enjoy what's being presented. And thank you for the extra effort involved in getting in and out of your van to set up your camera so we can share this snowy adventure. God bless you!
This reminds me very much of Colorado mountain winter camping in my old VW camper van. I was in an unprotected area and the winds of a 2 day snowstorm blew so hard for so long that when it was over my engine compartment was packed solid with snow, and I had to spend nearly an hour digging out the engine compartment before I could drive the 50 yards back to the highway. The drive itself was very easy because the wind had blown the ground almost completely bare of snow. After that I carried cardboard to duct tape over the vents in the engine compartment. Yes, the rig had been physically rocking during the storm. Colorado winds can be brutal. A micro-bus with chains on is amazing in snow, with enormous ground clearance, and the engine weight over the drive wheels.
Experienced this as I live in rural Minnesota. Our winters are legendary. Yet, it seems that the 60s and 70s were the most memorable. Snow Drifts as high as the roof of our house. January 1975 we ere hit three times. Pictures of Dad making a path from house to barn shows the drift dwarfed the tractor. Spring sun made quick work of snow. Lots of Ducks and Geese spent time in the swamp .Made rafts and used fallen branches to move our creation.
The lack of any white noise in this makes me want to do the same thing. Drive to a location where there's no sound pollution, just natural sounds. Relax, enjoy a good wine, meal, and silence. Its a therapy that i think many would really enjoy, should they ever experience it.
Gracias! Saludos desde Paraguay 🇵🇾❤️
I love how this guy is going into harsh conditions with equipment that isn't the best but gets the job done. Other RU-vidrs that make similar content always use high end vehicles and the equipment used is overkill. This is real overlanding/camping!
@@realtalk37851 there's all sorts of ways to improvise, for example instead of expensive -30 bag, two cheap 0 degree bags do the trick, especially if you're wearing layers inside as well
Having been on the other side of this scenario, I'd like to see fewer of these type videos posted. It encourages poorly prepared, inexperienced folks to go into these situations over confident. That's where I have to get involved with search and rescue teams putting us in danger. If you feel the need to do this, test the equipment in your back yard before putting yourself in a situation where your poor decision puts others at risk trying to save you.
One might meditate to this and then you went “SLAP! Snow! Get off these branches! SLAP!” and I laughed aloud. Just a calm, joyous celebration with a pleasing amount of chocolate goodies and wonderful shots of your van. Yay! Thank you.
@@RodrigoKaspary May it always! When I was a kid I remember my parents had a book about people who converted various and assorted vehicles on wheels, I'm sure one of them was a VW bus/camper. I would look at it constantly, the pictures just blew me away!. I don't know where the book went but I know it was called 'Rolling Homes', published probably in the late 70s or early 80's. But probably one of many nowadays.🚌 I also enjoyed watching you make your breakfast, not sure if that was a frittata? Although I am vegan, I'm sure I could make it as you did, with an amazingly delicious, plant-based product called Just Egg🍳
That little stove is amazing. Would absolutely love to have that in a camper van. Imagine sitting next to it reading a book and listening to the wind and rain outside 😁
My husband actually went through this once. He was a traveling salesman in a caravan of other salesmen passing through the mountains and they got caught in a snowstorm and had to stop for the night. Visibility was so bad that they had unknowingly stopped right before the whole caravan went off a cliff. They survived by huddling together for warmth in a few of the vans.
I got a beginner question lol, doesn’t cooking with a small wood stove like in the video cause a carbon monoxide hazard? Will it be more safer to open the car window somewhat to allow better ventilation?
I get the "prefer to be alone" thing... but it would be much, much more fun with somebody that you connect with on many levels. Man, that breakfast looks sooo good!! 😊
Pls submit this to Sundance. I was enthralled w/this video! U can also have some low vol George Winston music in the background… I was an avid VW owner for most of my life w/many different yr models. This is beautifully put together. Pls enter it at Sundance and other Film festivals!
@@mindfk394k those little stoves can drive one out. I liked his style and installation. I enjoyed the fairy lights. Not so sure if a full time live in as no usual day to day stuff. Or he is minimalist and very neat. I sort of liked that idea. I want to make snow angels! It was so good to see that playful moment. Looks like he was in a campground but chose not to park at a site. Maybe so as not to get stuck? The small building is probably vault toilets.
This lovely European fellow isn't pretending this is a survival situation. He is in a park next to an apparent public loo, with picnic tables and somebody else's excited pooch running through in the morning. He came well prepared with food, wine, and cooking equipment. It isn't that much snow -- in the morning he fixes his wipers and drives off! I found the whole thing relaxing.
@@davell1078 - Brazilians also drink mate. Brazilians from Rio Grande do Sul state drink it like this guy, we call it chimarrão. While in the rest of the country we drink Mate in a regular cup or as a iced tea with lime and sugar

Stop!!! Such horse shit. Is your message for the Turks and Syrians? What about the Haitians? Your comment is REPULSIVE and disrespectful of most humans on Earth.
LOVED the shots of your van from outside as it was growing dark. Just a cheerful little VW van sitting in a parking lot with those lights on inside. It inspires one to ponder the possibilities...
Had gotten caught a few times when in New Mexico - go to bed at 65 degrees and wake up to 2” of snow and freezing! Also, nothing more nostalgic a sound that the click open of a VW Bus door handle. ❤️❄️
Just breathtakingly beautiful. The pure sounds, the snow, the coziness of the cute van. So relaxing, just to watch. Makes me want to be there. Perfect!
And that van will survive a CME OR A EMP ,( no modern computer or and chips . Would only nead to replace some them fuses. It don't even have fuseable links in the wiring . Simple is the best way .
Love the silence of this video without the voice but just the simple sounds. I am not a fan of people talking a lot and making videos ' It takes away that serene feeling. Love your small wood burning fire place and the whole experience. Thank you for this peaceful video.
@@awoodward37 You mean CO; carbon monoxide, not CO2; carbon dioxide. That stove has a little vent that goes to the roof so as long as it doesn't get clogged, he should be fine.
Hi Rodrigo I want to say thank you for inspiring me to get my driving licence back & hopefully go camping in a vw beetle like you do...... Cheers Rachel
Exactly I was just thinking the same thing! Let’s watch him get in and out of van, fixing wipers, putting on chains and wait for it, starting fires and eating, repeat… No speaking, telling us what the hell is the whole point of this snooze fest…
I had a 1968 Volkswagen pop top Camper van just like that. Mine was blue. It was my wife and I favorite car. We bought it in pristine condition from an old couple in the seventies. The pop up top made it sleep 6. it had a built in refrigerator and sink with running water powered by hand pump. It had110 outlets. It was all professionally done new. I had the engine worked on and it never ran right again but it would have been easily worth it to replacing the engine. They were notorious for not getting enough air in the side scoops to keep the engine cool enough. It ran beautiful until it took a crap. I'd buy it back in a second. When you get that special car never sell it.
Jeden z najładniejszych kamperów jakie znam i jeszcze ten klimat rewelacja.

Thank You! Thank you! I am what they used to call a shut-in. I LOVE snow! You have made me feel like I’m there! You showed all the magic in a snowfall. Thank you so much! ❤️
Totally love this. Had similar experience in the Snowy Mountains, Australia, with our 1972 VW transporter. Woke up in the morning with long icicles hanging from the lining screws on the roof. This guy is really doing it tough with no lining. Still a very cozy experience.
my folks had a '77 Kombi, no middle seat and fold out bed in the bad. We went all over in that thing, including snow chains. We didn't have an LED light bar, but did have the spare mounted on the nose so you could use it to push stuff. I do like the twin swing side doors instead of the slider we had. Nice vid - thank you.
I owned and camped in one of these 20 years ago in Northern Canada as a forester; very difficult to start in the cold, even more difficult to steer and control. I often had to place a coleman stove under the oil pan to warm the engine up in order to start it- made for scary times in the frozen wilderness- still cool though!
I enjoyed this. It was always relaxing for me driving a semi truck, being stuck up north in the snow and living similar to this. I had my TV on the truck, internet, a ps4, computer, Keurig. It was nice. Away from everybody. Alone time.
Our son left Indiana one winter. He was moving from there to Nebraska about halfway there he got into a blizzard. He pulled into a parking lot and fell asleep. When he woke up he had been 10 (or more) feet from a gas station and a place to get food and coffee. He didn't even know it the night before.
THE most seasoned steak in existence lol. Great video, very cozy and super “up close” if you understand what I mean. I’ve had this experience to a point in a friend’s cabin out VERY deep into the northern American woods and there’s nothing like being warm and secluded in the middle of a snowstorm. It’s just you and nature and whatever you choose to bring with you.
Kudos!!!! Love this!! There is nothing like camping in a VW camper in the snow! Thanks for sharing your adventure! Both of my Westys have been parked for a while. '65 &'76. '65 needs TLC, and the '76 has a blown valve, and needs TLC. Thanks for reigniting the Air-cooled desire!
Runs well. Really liked your meal preparation. So peaceful. I love the wind. I have missed camping. I usually go out off season like this. Thank you
He has ruined planet Earth all that meat spits out fat. and the wood fire and gas, soot/carbon - your van, clothes, bedding, hair... will be filthy/stained with grease build up....also blackened roof, walls etc in no time; better to at least cook your meat with a lid on it to stop the grease spatter
Funny, coz I had a complete different thought!!! Cozy in winter for me means warmth! And having watched this I thought „well, at least no carbon dioxid issues in this crappy isolated old T2 van with all these open fireplaces“ and I say this with the utmost respect, as a German who surely appreciates that oldtimer! And cozy (in regards of warmth) wasn’t my first thoughts when I saw this. 😂 Nevertheless, I liked it! Take care.

I stumbled on this video started watching and couldn't stop until it quit...nothing more beautiful serene and peaceful as falling snow! Thanks for sharing...I am hungry, too 😁
Hello 👋! I can’t believe you made it through such harsh conditions in that VW! When I saw you put on the snow chains, I almost fell off my chair! I went along on a few camping trips in a 78 VW and froze without the snow. I’m impressed! That was really cool! 👍
its not really cold. i lived in my own van through -15 grad. and even then you can get warm. its getting interesting when your breath builds iceflowers on the inside of the windows. whish i had gotten that little ofen then. but... a few candles do a good job in such a small room.
It looks incredibly comfy in that little van, with the tiny wood burning stove. Been wanting a vehicle like that, a more modern sort of camper van like my Grandfather had. I don't remember the details about it other then it was a GMC van, had a couch in the back that folded into a bed, a small bench that folded out beside the couch as a seat or side table, even had a small cupboard and sink with 2 small floating cabinets. I wish I knew more about it before my uncle sold it shortly after my grandfather passed away. It would have been roughly the same size as that VW van, would have loved to have kept that van and fix it up. It did have a bad transmission and a few other things were in bad need of repair, but like that van was special, and also long gone. Every once in a while a smell will remind me of the van as it had a smell I can't remember, but if I smell something similar it brings back the memories of the van, which had carpets everywhere and was a dark green colour carpets, with driver and passenger seats, as well as the couch to match it... ugly colour but what I would give to see that van again if it hasn't been cubed or parted out... It has been like 10 years so who the hell knows where it is now...
You got it going on my country clubbing brother! Last year I camped in my fiberglass slide in shell in my truck for an extended time but when I first got the truck it was in Boulder CO in the winter so I spent a few nights in the snow myself. I wasn't nearly as creative with the cooking as you are. Good video
As a dyed in the wool rear engine VW van nut, having had 11 VW busses, 4 of which were Splitties, I've had to admit that FWD isn't all that bad either. I'm currently sitting in my 1989 MB100D in a place called USHGULI in Georgia. ( The country, not the state, and no, the country was not named after the state.) It's the highest permanently inhabited settlement in greater Europe and getting here is quite a challenge. I won't say I'm converted, but this van has taken me places that have had the 4x4 fraternity confused. That Brazilian bay has IRS AND reduction hubs! Best of both worlds. I can't believe he doesn't cover the glass tho! Doesn't look as tho there's much insulation either. Is that tiny stove THAT efficient? I have a chunk of slate heating on my gas burner to warm the space. There's a glacier 5 miles away and snow on the mountains but not around me and I'm chilly AF!
So peaceful and soothing( the snow). Major props to the human and his expertise in surviving the harsh weather conditions. Amazed at him cooking a full meal in a VW, it looked so delicious. I even love the yellow miniature replica of the van on the dash board. Awesome!
Beautiful. I love proper cold crisp snowy winters. Sadly here in Southern England, snow is becoming a very rare sight. Not even very many nice crisp frosty mornings anymore. Just long dark damp unnaturally mild winters 😟.
As a Canadian, I love the winter weather and I am looking forward to its fast approaching season. Something soothing about the cold, dark and quiet that I just love. As brutal as it can be to survive. Excellent video, and thanks for including us in your adventure 👍
I love it how people who live in shitty dark damp places try to convince themselves that they are better than Spain, Greece, Portugal, South France, Italy, etc. 😂
Pronto! Muy Pronto!
So I'm half-way through this and have so many questions but decide to follow my smiles as they are expanding...the more I watch the more I appreciate the deliberateness and patience...and the cuisine. I'm at the end now and thankful for your sharing this video! I am still smiling broadly at your adventure! Well done!!
