Sir you're literally talking about the ASV as I'm driving past 2 on the trailer of a semi as I'm heading home from work on i-70 LOL 26:23 Or at least it sounds like you're talking about the one I just drove by. The m 1117 ASV -32?
Respect for Flo reliving his trauma for the pod. Definitely could tell he was feeling it but maintained composure. Loved this change of pace guest wise. 💪🏼
Eli....This right here is the type of video content that I Believe could reach out to our Brothers and Sisters who are suffering in silence, my nephew was visiting when I was watching this episode and he's been carrying darkness for years, it was the First time I saw him laugh...he was involved with the content. Usually he'll sit in a corner, moving a chair so his back is against the wall and he doesn't talk very much ever...but watching this video he was himself again, for most of the night long after the episode was over....THANK YOU and Those Guys !!!!! Please consider doing more of this, it DOES Help.
It's not the video or content that did it, you did by finding a relation point. Not downgrading the content, but a person won't relate or open without wanting to somewhere, deep or shallow.
This podcast has really helped me. I was a combat engineer and got out of the Army in 2013 after a TBI. I love you guys and look forward to every podcast. Thank you guys for all you do.
Eli is a mother hen. I just love how he's always trying to make his guests and fellow interviewers feel welcome and heard. He's so sweet. I just love him. ❤️
Heartfelts by Eli are so much better than any intro song! Thank you Unsubscribe crew for all your hard work in making this podcast! Y'all make so many days better and brighter, and the laughs just keep rollin! Love y'all!
Hey man no matter what this show always brings light back into my soul. When I get big I promise ima say unsubscribe podcast and its hosts motivated me to get after it.
I lost my Fiance about 5 years ago and I am struggling with the idea of moving on without her. It really puts things in perspective getting to hear how these guys overcame their trauma. Hopefully I can find the motivation to push forward.
I love that Eli takes the time to thank the Unsub team. Not trying to keep them in the background, but push their effort and contributions to the forefront. It's awesome. Thanks to the whole team for your effort to make this entertainment for us, the fans.
1:31:45 about the dog tags around the belt, in out unit (us in second platoon) because we're mostly mechanics and it keeps it from falling out of our shirts when we're working on trucks. it's like the not having gloves on or jewelry as it is a hanging, non-body object that can get caught
Gotta say, been loving the "messages from Eli" it definitely gives the show an even more personal feel and down to earth. You boys are awesome Keep the laughs and the motivation coming! Much love from Canada! Shiiiiiii!✌️🖖🤘
As a wheeled mechanic with H8 Identifier, I ALWAYS looped my dog tags around my belt and tucked into my pocket. It's less hassle when laying under a truck and they slide around to your back or just some other nuisance while in the motorpool or doing recovery operation.
I wasn't in anything as exciting as an IED, but it's taken me a decade to realize my time in the Navy left me with PTSD. My first deployment was great until we got sent to Syria, where I got to watch civilians get murdered while we were told not to do anything. I was in denial for so long about my PTSD because I've got buddies who have it, but in my fucked up brain, they *earned* it. They were ground pounders who were caught up in IEDs, saw actual combat with lead flying at them, got physically hurt, spent time in surgeries, all that happy horseshit. And thinking about my experiences, I don't get sad or break down (usually). I get fucking mad. I blame everyone above me (especially the President who sent us there just to watch war crimes and told us to sit there with our thumbs up our asses. Thanks, Obama) for holding us back, keeping us from helping those civilians, from doing FUCKING SOMETHING to help. I've always had issues with my anger, but for the past ten years my anger has been really bad. The smallest things bother the shit out of me, and usually I bury that anger, but it builds up and up and up until I blow. I've been trying to get help for it, and the VA has helped a little, but they haven't done nearly enough. I'd go see a civilian therapist, but I don't have that kind of money. Ironically, the fact that the resources that SHOULD be readily available and free to veterans is so absolutely dog shit most of the time is one of those things that really stokes my fire. Ah well, I've got another VA appointment coming up this week, and the doc really does seem to want to help. Shouldn't hold my breath, though. Experience has taught me better.
1:50:51 in the prequels they did have physical sabers. Ewan McGregor talks about them accidentally hitting each other with them a lot. New movies problem was mostly that Daisy Ridley was just NOT built for stunts/choreography stuff in the slightest
@unsubscribepodcast as a vet i have had better therapy sessions with just a bunch of other vets talking and joking then with an actual therapist. I love watching the podcast and look forward to it
1:10 is I lost it when Eli asked what brown he was!!! Man I love this channel!!!! Second edit, I'm Eli's age, so I remember those phone and internet trailers and the blackouts with comms all too well! My folks would freak out constantly because I finally got to call home, then the lines would get cut off because of war shit... super fun times!
I gotta say, this entire episode was incredibly uplifting and motovating. Everything about it was great. That being said, there is one sticking point. Lightsaber choreography in the prequals was so good because the actors became swordsmen in order to use the props. Like, full on accredited swordsmen. Obi-wan and Maul's fight had to be artificially slowed down because they went so fast the editors thought it was too unrealistic. They put their heart and soul into their sequences. The modern franchise just had them bash at each other for a while and focused more on the individual emotions throughout the fight, using the fight to show their emotions rather than use the fight to show a good fight.
Having an fifth podcast every month is one of the best news I've could have heard today. This podcast keeps me going and I look forward to every episode. Thank you unsubscribe, I appreciate you all.
Dont know if unsub would ever see... but this podcast has shaped me on how I lead and run the semi truck dealership ive been proud to be a few years in charge of. Genuinely this has helped me deal with stress and my day to day life and Ive learned to stand up and lead my guys with the same morals and standards thats needed while still laughing with the guys under me. Thank you all so much Unsub. You guys dont ever need to change
I know I’m way late on the game here, but it has to be said. “Burts bee’s in the Patron of chapstick” is an insult to Burt’s bees. Love the podcast and everyone involved! Eli is one of the most wholesome individuals on RU-vid! Much love from a former sailor who didn’t start drinking like one until I got out!
A few things I would like to address. 7 lightsabre forms ( with many sub-styles). The old lightsabre fights were better because they used the handles with the pole, not the other way around, and the coreography was done by an actual swordsman. The actors also would practice for hours a day for months with their coreography, actually becoming proficient in escrima (kali/arnis) stick fighting for their parts. The fight scenes in the Original movies and Prequels were also used to tell a story. In the Original movies it was to show two elderly Knights fighting not only each other, but also years of not using their skills to fight other lightsabre duelists and the pain of old injuries. Empire and Return are used to show Vader shaking off the rust and Lukes increasing skill, but lack of combat experience. The prequels were used to show the Jedi at their peak and the progression of Obi-wan's and Akakin's fighting styles into the old men they became in A New Hope as well as the brotherhood that they posessed, being able to fight the opponent that bested them during Attack of the Clones" by using tactics to lull Dooku into complacency and closing the trap and defeating him. Dooku took Obi-wan out of the fight with the Force because he knew he wouldnt be able to break his guard. He thought he could beat Anakin on a one on one duel as he had before, which of course becomes his downfall because Obi-wan would have likely stopped Anakin from killing him. That is why the fights the sequels fail. Please excuse my rant, I wasted my youth memorizing so much useless information and I have so little chance to use it.
I love the one on ones Eli does at the beginnings. I listen/watch while I’m working out or working. This one on one I was going for a new PR on bench. Eli your words gave me the power to push 225 up twice. Love the content yall. Thank you
Shadaversity gave a good reason for not turning the light saber off-on quickly because in a real sword fight the opponent is aiming for vitals and is as likely, maybe more likely, to get you in that process.
I went to Yakima for a gunnery when I was in the 8th/40th Armor. I was an 88M and since I didn't have a job during the Gunnery I was security. We spent 12 hours shifts guarding the desert. The most exciting thing that happened was I had to drive out and tell some farmer that the red flags meant the tanks were live firing and getting hit by a 105 would not be fun. I spent a month there while the tankers rotated in and out.
Several things with the starwars stuff, 1. Canonically the blades of lightsabres have mass, if you watch in any of them the swordfighting methods are based on real world fighting where they have some mass that has to be directed 2. The shutting off the sabre technique is forbidden on both sides because the jedi view it as fighting dirty, and the sith view it as weakness
Flo is so underrated on, hopefully he can gain some traction from this if he wants it. There is just something about his videos. Been watching lord of lips for a while. But MFD is bloody brilliant too. Butterworth also has something about him. I love these all veteran/military podcasts and the stories. I’m glad you can all talk about your experiences
With Eli and the Star Wars Imperial march shit brought up a great memory from a time at Cadet summer camp (closest to JROTC that we have in Canada). We were doing rehearsal for our graduation parade, and when the base commander walked on normally the band would play some formal music, this time they played the imperial march. Base commander thought that shit was hilarious.
When the recruiter first came to me in 1984 he said I qualified for Intelligence Analyst, he said I would do a year at Ft Huachuca (2 hour drive from my home) and would make Sgt in 2 years. My mom begged me not to go and I balked. 2 year later (after bad choices) I couldn't get the clearance for Analyst so I went Aviation powerplant mechanic for the hell of it. The Army tracked me down because my GT out of high school was 136 and they never mentioned Infantry, Artillery, Armor or Cook...
Been watching since the single digit episodes and to see the podcast grow has been absolutely crazy. Can't wait to see you all keep crushing it in the future!
Yes more episodes of unsub every month. You guys are pulling me trough a tough time in my life. My wife has a very heavy depression and professional help has a waiting list of months. So between taking care of my wife and doing the complete household. My fulltime job as electrician and taking care of my 2 huskys. These episodes always brighten my week a bit up, and give me some laughs and positive vibes in these dark times. Thanks from the bottom of my heart Eli, Cody , Brandon and Nick and of course all the amazing guests every week for bringing me and other people some positivity in life.
I love you guys! (No homo) I haven’t had the same experiences as you guys but I’ve had the experiences where it’s like the world and life is coming down on me. I’ve lost both of my parents growing up, one when I was a kid and the other when I was 17. I feel those days of darkness come and go but unsub is what brings the light back into my day. I’ve watched this podcast since ep.80 and I’m very happy with how fast it’s growing and how us viewers actually feel the amount you guys love us. I will be watching unsub as long as it’s here. Donut, Brandon, Eli, and every guest that has been on, thank you ❤️
2:01:26 Funnily enough, Japan actually did this for the JSDF. The anime is called GATE and it’s about Japan’s military going to a fantasy world and wrecking shit. It even has a nice Apocalypse Now scene with helos and all
For first-time anime viewers, I typically try to figure out a good genre for someone, then recommend a shorter series. Because usually if they complete a series they'll jump back in for more.
Used to LARP in Edzel castle in Scotland ,, which just for info is the last Scottish Castle Mary Queen of Scots stayed in before crossing the boarder going south to be beheaded. We had permission from the Scottish Heritage Society to use the Castle with one stipulation , On the Sunday we put on a show for the public. One weekend we had a pea souper fog roll in and being the nerds we were and that Phantom Menace had just come out , we all had Light sabers and had duels in the fog ,, it was AMAZING!.
Mandatory ,, OMG NFS Underground 2 and my also favourite song Nobody by Skindred . I saw them in the last couple of months here in the UK ,, they still got it !.
Flo talking about the circle of trauma and "you not thinking about it" hit home for a lot of stuff, be it my service in the Army or personal experiences. Please have him as a guest again, great episode.
Love you guys, truly. This podcasts help me get threw my day and puts a stupid smile on my face when my mood is at a low. Cant wait to see how 2024 goes for you all
I was in a 155 from the back of my track i thought the dusmounts got more of it but turns out i got more of the percussion, its a good story. We dubbed it the bridge of death.
Watching the question "What do you enjoy about anime?" cuncuss and stunlock as hard as it did really does fill me with joy. Like asking why one likes cheese or chocolate, explanations are possible, exerience however will be the better teacher. Also big ups to Code: Lyoko, fun french anime.
Love you guys! I’m so glad you brought up Pokémon go again and the shenanigans people would get into playing it. I used to work for a cemetery and people would walk up in the middle of funeral services trying to catch something lol!
If Eli wants an anime about military. Gate: thus the jsdf went there, was made alongside the jsdf and shows "modern" military tech against medieval and fantasy stuff
I swear you’re just talking about my childhood this episode and I just feel old AF now! LOL Also, the first responders in the area also refer to it as Yakistan, although possibly for different reasons.
Thank yall so much for the podcast it was fuckin awesome. Also, 2nd to last segment about rewatching stuff is wild because tbh I thought everyone did that at least a bit. But ig it's still not something people normally do a lot of.
2:01.32 basically what the JSDF did with GATE. an isekai funding by the JSDF about the Japanese military being transported into a medieval fantasy world and introducing them to modern military might. It's dope as hell
I'm gonna be that guy, and correct you start wars lore. Trakata (turning your lightsaber off and on in combat) was not used by the Jedi for being dishonorable (you got that right), but the Sith don't care about honor. The reason the Sith still didn't use it, is because it is a cold, dispassionate way to fight, and the Sith derive their power from passion.
