Torontonian here. Having sun all the time would be so damn good! I mean, of course people say 'Calgary is freezing.. why would you move there?'. But, here's the thing. People DO NOT be outside 20 hours in a day. They drive around and stay in their warm house. I'd prefer to be in sunny cold weather than cloudy mild weather. Having no sun in the whole winter is just DEPRESSING😢
For people that are going from inside to outside a lot I recommend a heated jacket. A minute or so before you are going outside turn on the jacket and it will keep you warm. I recommend the Milwaukee jacket since it just uses the same battery from their tools so its easy to replace the battery if it eventually fails. Its not the cheapest option but it looks decent and is well made so it wont rip easy.
One little tip for a cheap humidifier is if you have a large bowl just fill it with water. Obviously swap out the water every day but it will add a bit of humidity back into the home. It also looks like you have a kettle in your kitchen. When its really dry out just enjoy more tea. Obviously a real humidifier is much better but for people that maybe cant afford anything else this will provide a bit of relief. As a side note if you want a close by place to check out that isnt Banff or Canmore check out ForgetMeNot Pond. Its out by Bragg Creek and about 10 minutes down from Elbow Falls. Its a great place to check out during the summer. There is a decent path that goes around the pond and areas where you could have lunch (you need to bring your own food and obviously make sure you dont leave anything behind). As an added bonus its not uncommon to see cows grazing and sometimes you will have some mountain sheep on the side of the road as well. Waterton Park is also nice but there you are looking at a few hours drive. Drumheller is also nice for once your kid is a little older. That is where the Dinosaur museum is.
"That" cold can last a few weeks , it is not months. Just for those from outside. And same time for summer, it can get "That" hot for a few weeks maybe a week where you need/want AC. generally 30+ day after day Watching this at end of August so you guys should do the summer retrospective... Fun to follow people's journey moving from other cities to Calgary and what its like, reminds me of the days when i first moved here
Thanks for your videos, My family and i are going to live to Calgary in September. Next week my suppose and i are going to Calgary to do an scout of houses to rent in september. Your videos hace been important to us for what to spect when arriving there. Do you also have houses to rent?.
Your very welcome! Happy our videos have been helpful :) Here in Alberta realtors do not take care of rentals. A great website to look for rentals here in Calgary is rentfaster.ca
Anybody from On-terrible and Torontonians would say and complain about winter in Calgary, mainly because they don't know winter. Toronto and On-terrible don't know what cold means; people from On-terrible will panic when it gets colder than -10. People from On-terrible are softer than cotton candies for winter, especially in Alberta. Whatever Steph and Dan are flapping their gums about in this video is essentially Winter 101.
