His adventurous spirit may seem admirable but Forrest Galante is a PARACHUTE SCIENTIST! This is a term referring to people who go to Third World countries, and promise to fund local scientists and use the expertise of the local scientists to piggyback a discovery only to cut off all communication and aid once a discovery has been made, and claim the discovery for themselves. Any of the animals that he has claimed to have rediscovered either we’re never considered extinct, rediscovered by other people that forest stole the credit from, or were never rediscovered by Forrest or anybody else (Zanzibar leopard as an example). This practice does more harm than good as it shifts the attention away from the people who actually do conservation in the areas where these animals are endangered, and makes it harder for these people to get funding for their real conservation efforts. Please! More people need to call this man out!

I spent several months out in the woods, with bare minimum equipment, eg no tent etc. I found I naturally woke up half an hour prior to sunrise. Mainly due to the sounds of the forest. Then sleeping wasn't an issue but the rain, would slow me down, but I had to be aware of the effect to my core temperature, due to poor shelter at times. Living with nature will change your perspective of self, nature and the value of humanity.

That in itself is enough to choke an elephant.. I can only imagine what words were in that note, I mean what would you write.

been a fan of forrest for awhile, but this is my first time watching this podcast. Gotta say im a big fan of how unafraid this guy is to admit his ignorance. in podcasts anymore it seems like theres alot of people who try to be experts in everything, so its not seeing people openly saying "i dont know" or "i have very limited knowledge of this subject solely based on pop culture". Forrest is pretty good about this too, whenever a subject comes up hes not versed in, if he gives his opinion, hes the first to say hes not for sure and to take his words with a grain of salt.

Back in the 70s I saw the biggest snake.. i was born in the southern part of the Philippines.. we live inside a logging company compound up a side of mountain with the back of our home was a dark jungle and the front was a cliff overlooking the ocean.. we had a lot of chickens back then and they roost at night up a jackfruit tree at the back of our house.. one late evening we started hearing a lot clucking and wings flapping about so our houseboy went to check it out.. he came back screaming about a big snake swallowing one of our chickens.. we called the compound security who then shot the snake and dragged it out.. it was so long and huge that when they loaded it at the back of their pickup truck a large part of snake's tail was dragging behind it.. they had a feast that weekend with that snake..

Yup. The same reason office jobs don't really do anything until after lunch. Its so stupid. Most of my life, i worked physical labor , landscape and irrigation, steel plant, ect.. When i got a job as rep for a medical supply company, i was astounded at the waste of time in the office. We would have these stupid meetings first thing in the morning, that had no point. I was looking at the time thinking like "i have to be in another state in two hours, lets wrap this up". The days that i stuck around the office (happened a lot after an injury), i realized that they actually worked about two hours out if the day. Of course, they would handle issues as they arose, but for the most part, after the "meeting", they would hang out until lunch, then do some work, then they would start to wind down for quiting time. Anyway, the whole thing blew my mind. I asked my wife about it, and she said that it was pretty much the same at her work.

Love Forrest, a very interesting guy who's had one of the craziest life's. He's proved animals declared extinct, not to be so. And he's proved how mentally crazy he is 😂 survived naked & afraid, has done hundreds of expeditions if not thousands actually.. and he's ones of the very few who have the "il go see for myself" mentality, rather than making his observations & opinions behind a screen.. and never actually going into the field.. Definitely watch his pod if you don't already, it's called The Wild Times. It's all based around animals, but they do cool segments like Extinct or Alive , or an animal battle royale, in where they pick three parts of the animals & though it's not real.. it is fun and super refreshing. Because you have the humour & interest from these other things they do , for me it meant I found myself watching way more than I intended too & I've stuck around😊

The whole reintroduction of mammoths into the arctic tundra again will be an interesting experiment and I’d love seeing those back. But the idea that it’ll somehow restore the entire habitat type and prevent climate change is unfortunately just wrong. Humans did not hunt mammoths and the other European and American megafauna to extinction and cause a habitat catastrophe that then resulted in melting of the ice caps, massive global warming, and end of the Ice Age. Humans are powerful and potentially destructive but we weren’t THAT powerful 11,000-13,000 years ago. The “Overkill Hypothesis” is wrong, it’s simply not possible for small numbers of roving hunter gatherers to kill THAT many mammoths across ALL of Europe, Siberia, and North America, let alone the shortfaced bears, American Lions, Sabertoothed Cats, etc. There’s more and more mounting evidence for cataclysm, whether comet/meteor strikes and/or massive solar events, being responsible for ending the last Ice Age, melting the ice sheets, causing catastrophic megafloods, habitat destruction, etc. and all of that being what caused the extinction of all those megafaunal species as well as significantly reducing human populations globally. All that said, I still want to see the mammoth’s brought back. That’ll be super cool!

Your argument sounds like "Since I used all my gas doing a burnout instead of actually driving, regular gas won't fill my car"

I grew up in Australia & regarding the highly venomous coral snake which is red, yellow & black, but there's a false one that has same colours, but in different sequence. The Aborigines have a saying that goes something like 'red & yella kill a fella.....' & I can't remember the last part of the saying ( maybe somebody will know ). A good thing....if one can remember it to tell the difference.

In the states we say, “Red touches yellow, he can kill a fellow. Red touches black you can Pat him on the back.” Because the nonvenomous king snake is also red, yellow, and black just in a different order. Though personally I just recommend leaving them all alone.

Interesting guest! But humans didn't cause the extinction of the mammoth...you might want to talk to Randall Carlson about that.

Not sure about the starting school at 10 idea is an evolutionary thing. When I am engaged in remote wilderness hiking .... especially in hot climates - you go to sleep when it's dark (7-8pm) and therefore start waking up at dawn - or before. I know for sure, our ancestors would have woken up at dawn ... thats when all the birds and animals are up and about - good for hunting and gathering, especially in hot climates. Teenage neanderthals might have actually been middle-aged. Thanks though interesting interview.
