I realize this is an experiment, but I felt so bad. New York has a reputation for being abrasive. I’ve lived there, but I’m from Connecticut originally. You can’t save everyone, but if I have access to food and someone tells me they have $.73, I’m just going to give them something. It might not be a full culinary experience, but I’m going to give them something to eat. My conscience wouldn’t allow otherwise.

Good luck!! Cause, new york is truly expensive. I notified a sign advertising a slice of pizza for .99 I remember when a large slice of pizza 🍕 in new york was .25 a slice! Some places .15 a slice. Later, slices increased to .50! As a kid i thought paying. 50 was ridiculous! Lol No. I'm not 80 yrs old. But, i am in my early 60's. I've been dying to tell someone that I recall when a slice in new york was .25 Was .25 to ride the bus, too. Blessings.

Ultimate hack? Find a comfort holiday of any other inn that offers free breakfast . They don’t check id or to see if you are actually staying there . At any truck stop you can ask a driver to use their shower credit . So boom breakfast and showers out the way . Of course their aren’t many truck stops in nyc
The Bowery mission is a free shelter that provides food shelter and a shower. You don’t need to be homeless they help anyone. Next time you visit on a budget try them

I also use the free fries with any purchase coupon at Burger King, but I order an Ice Cream for a dollar. An ice cream cone and a large fry is actually a pretty filling snack for a dollar!
I'd love to try and challenge myself like this more but I just don't have the energy and enthusiasm for it, I've been broke overseas before and I just get into a really down sad state when I'm broke and hungry, it isn't fun but I wanna learn to push through those feelings to be able to turn things around
