Hi everyone! I'm Stephen. In a world that often emphasizes comfort and familiarity, pushing oneself beyond limits can be intimidating. Yet, the human spirit can have extraordinary feats when it embraces challenges. In the heartwarming and insightful video by Stephen, the creator of "Surviving Schizophrenia," he shares his journey of pushing himself physically and mentally to discover his true potential. From his struggles with schizophrenia to his newfound love for chess, Stephen's story is an inspiring testament to the power of pushing boundaries.
The Power of Pushing: A Walk to Transformation
In the video's opening moments, Stephen candidly discusses his recent battle with exhaustion and illness. Despite feeling drained and fatigued, he recalls when his father encouraged him to go for a walk. Although initially hesitant due to his tiredness, Stephen decided to push himself and take that walk. What followed was a transformative experience that shifted his perspective on pushing boundaries.
As Stephen aptly explains, pushing oneself unveils new dimensions of strength and resilience that might remain dormant. Just as his walk improved his mood and energy levels, pushing oneself can lead to personal growth and a sense of accomplishment that wouldn't be possible without venturing beyond one's comfort zone.
Overcoming Schizophrenia: Pushing Toward Recovery
As someone who has been living with schizophrenia since 2012, Stephen provides a unique perspective on the impact of pushing boundaries on mental health recovery. He shares how his family, teacher, and therapist gently pushed him to face his fears, go out, and engage with the world despite his condition. Initially stressful, these experiences gradually became less daunting, eventually contributing to his improved mental well-being.
Stephen's journey highlights that pushing boundaries isn't just about physical challenges-it's also about confronting the mental and emotional obstacles that can hold us back. His willingness to face the discomfort of social situations allowed him to build resilience, self-confidence, and a greater sense of control over his condition.
The Birth of a RU-vid Channel: Pushing Through Apprehension
The pinnacle of Stephen's boundary-pushing journey is his decision to start the "Surviving Schizophrenia" RU-vid channel. While the idea was initially met with hesitation from family, Stephen pushed through his doubts and fears. He recognized the potential of using his platform to create awareness and understanding about schizophrenia, often surrounded by stigma and misunderstanding.
Starting the channel allowed Stephen to share his experiences, raise awareness, and connect with others facing similar challenges. His persistence in pushing past the apprehension led to an outpouring of positive feedback and a newfound sense of purpose. By challenging himself to step into the public eye, Stephen redefined his capabilities and found healing through helping others.
Discovering Chess: Pushing the Limits of Cognitive Ability
Stephen's recent interest in chess further underscores the theme of pushing boundaries. Rekindling his childhood love for the game, he explores the world of chess, both as entertainment and cognitive stimulation. Through playing chess, Stephen challenges himself to think strategically, improve his problem-solving skills, and engage his mind in a new way.
Learning and mastering chess mirrors Stephen's broader journey of growth and self-discovery. Just as he pushed himself to address the challenges of schizophrenia and create a RU-vid channel, he now ventures into the intricate world of chess to explore his cognitive potential and broaden his horizons.
Conclusion: Embracing Growth Through Pushing Boundaries
Stephen's video provides a compelling narrative that encourages us to push beyond our limitations and embrace the growth that comes from stepping out of our comfort zones. Whether facing physical challenges, navigating mental health issues, or pursuing new hobbies, pushing boundaries offers the opportunity for self-discovery, empowerment, and transformation.
In the face of adversity, Stephen's journey exemplifies the importance of resilience and the rewards of pushing oneself, even when the path seems daunting. By sharing his experiences, he inspires others to challenge their preconceptions, confront fears, and embark on their journeys of self-discovery.
As we reflect on Stephen's story, let us remember that every step taken beyond our comfort zones can lead to a brighter, more fulfilling life where we discover the true extent of our capabilities and potential. So, let us embrace the challenges, push our boundaries, and forge our paths toward growth, healing, and a more enriching existence.

Bless you Stephen 💜 I have a few friends and family who believe I have schizophrenia or bpd from some of my odd behaviors. I’ve started seeing therapists and psychiatrists to get help. You give me a lot of hope and I hope you have a wonderful week.

It has been an amazing experience to watch this amazing young man fully embrace his recovery with such enthusiasm; he is not only surviving, but thriving. He has confronted this debilitating illness with rare courage and dignity. His journey is an example of the power of commitment and perseverance in the face of an illness that was once considered hopeless. You are lighting the way. Bless you Stephen!

I started using the step tracker on my phone & it can help motivate you and see your progress and trends. I often reach 10k but if you can set a goal for around 4-5k a day, that’s really good and benefits your health in many ways. Just a suggestion. ;)

This is really great and so motivating! Also- does the medication you have to take cause you to feel more tired? It is a struggle for me to get up and get moving when I feel so tired but one classic line I tell myself is that "spending energy creates energy" and that has helped a bit! I am grateful that you share yourself with us in videos because you are helping so many families!

I am not big on compliments, but I am forced to say, "You are amazing." What a testament to good parenting, determination and love. You live a fulfilling life. More to come. I am so excited to see how your confidence and belief in yourself is growing! You are like a butterfly that has come from a cacoon. I've been following your videos since the start. It has always been very insightful and especially to me, who has a lifelong friend with Schizophrenia still coming to a much better understanding of the condition. Your channel might be a healing agent to you, but it is so much more to a world out there. Keep pushing yourself while still remembering to be gentle, kind and forgiving towards yourself. Allow yourself all the good days, but be kind enough also towards yourself to grant yourself days when you might not be so bright eyed and bushy tailed.

You pushed yourself to travel to Texas, and that got you back to playing chess, and now you are motivated to learn more about the game and play even better. Your self-motivation is inspiring! And pushing yourself to take a walk has led to making a very good video. ALSO, when you smile, it is wonderful!

Thank you so much Stephen for this video, I really needed this "jolt" of inspiration to get me going today. It's cold day outside, I'm sitting at my computer feeling too tired to do anything, but now I will try to push myself, like you said, to do something useful. Thank you for that :) I love that you got into chess, I used to play it with my grandfather a lot, it's a wonderful game and I guess what I appreciate about the game is that there's no "randomness" (there's no rolling of dice or shuffling cards or stuff like that), it's all about one's knowledge about game and careful (or not so careful ;) ) planning and creativity in developing offense and defense. The game's about as fair for both players as the game can get, if you ask me, and I kind of appreciate that because not a lot of things in life are "fair" to everybody :) Thanks again Stephen, and best of luck and health :)

You’re so, so lucky to have parents like your Dad, my grandson is 22 and he’s tired all the time just like you, and he can’t work or be around people. This stress is so overwhelming for him. My grandson came into my life around July of this year. I wished he could accept his lifestyle such as you have.

Yes, pushing yourself gently is worthwhile. I wonder if you ever discussed with your psychiatrist if you could switch very, very, very, slowly from clozapine to Epilim ( valporate). There is less tiredness. It's not a possibility for everyone, especially if you are having break through episodes on the clozapine. Who knows...Might be worth a discussion.
