In Canada using a gun to defend yourself is illegal, only the government can do that, not the citizen. Therefore 'still being able to shoot' doesn't apply here because other than hunters and the odd sports shooter, nobody owns firearms up here, except the criminals.

If we can't help and look after the elderly and disabled when the SHTF, what is the purpose of even calling ourselves Christians? We would have lost the plot.

I agree but that's also really difficult sometimes. My father in law will be passing away in a few days ( I'm happy for him to be going Home ) However, my mother in law, with level 8 dementia will be difficult to care for if SHTF happens and the workers and nurses no longer show up to her facility. We'll have to find a way to get her to my house ( 30 miles away ) and she's wheelchair bound, on a catheter , uses diapers for other things, and can't feed herself or shower. I'm trying to gear myself up for possibly taking her on but whew ! - it's going to take ALOT ! Seriously, I have a hard enough time cleaning up dog poop - I gag and throw up. Taking care of a disabled person .... that's a whole nother level. I'm not a CNA for a reason. Sometimes taking people in is easier said than done.

@@libertyandjustus8258 Those of us who take this seriously have no misgivings about any of the coming changes being easy. In fact, we know that most of it will be very hard. All of of our lives will be profoundly changed. Quality of life as we know it will be for the most part...gone. We're all going to have to learn to adapt to the changes and do the best we can. Taking care of an elderly person with dementia by yourself will be a challenge. Perhaps a friend or neighbor in the community can help if you do take her in. I was not aware that there were 8 stages. I always thought there were only 7. I don't believe that SHTF is going to be a sudden and total collapse of everything everywhere all at once. That would lead to chaos that the 'powers' are unable to control, and the whole point of them doing what they're doing is to gain total control. Yes, there will be disruptions, disturbances, and worsening criminal activities, but we will still have order of some kind and people who want money will continue to show up for work into the foreseeable future, though they may be working with fewer resources. I think that the nursing home will continue to be there for a while.

@@libertyandjustus8258 I took care of my mother- in- law for years and her dementia was horrible. I got no help. She got placed in a nursing home. Then I got stuck with the father-in-law. But the moment they past, the vultures came running. You wouldn't have believed the demands they made and expected. I am still disgusted with their behavior.

I'm 52, and still healthy...but feeling my age. I have always worked hard, physically. My job is very physical. I have been in the same trade since I was 18 (34 years now). We bought raw rural land a few years ago... we built a home and have been working on getting the land together, the way we want. But I have had to really start rethinking the way I do things. I spread out projects and take a little bit more time on things than I used to. I also think ahead. I look at how I'm going to take care of this place when I'm 70. We put out gardens right next to the house, so we can just step outside and tend to it more easily. I cleared the land and set up mowing paths near fences, etc... so that when I older and on a riding lawnmower, I can get it all done easily. I currently use a tractor to do all that because some of ground is still rough and uneven, not suitable for a riding lawnmower. But it will suited for that eventually. I watched my grandfather do this on his farm. He ran plumbing from a couple faucets to area around, his gardens and animal pens, etc...sonhe didn't have to haul water, or drag hoses all over the place. He set up feed storage and feeding systems that made it easy for him in old age. He was still working at 99 years old. He built good fencing so it would need constant upkeep or repair. He didnt let clutter of unused or discarded equipment pile up. He set up the levee's around his fish ponds to be easy to mow with a riding lawnmower. Gates, doors, lids, covers were all well built, sturdy, and designed to last ..and easy to use. By the time he was in his 90s, his place was set up, to where he could go out do his daily chores, with the least amount effort possible. His garden was three steps outside the kitchen door. His little shed for garden tools and supplies was right at the end of the garden. Everything he need for that garden was in that shed, not spread all over in different places. His little walk behind tiller was right there at the end of the last garden row, under a little tin roof. Not in some far away building. You never saw him going somewhere else to get something that he needed in a given space that he was working in. And if did ever have to go get something, he'd buy a duplicate to solve that problem...such as two rakes, or two shovels, etc... He ways told me that you have to burn less calories, than the calories you grow...otherwise you will starve to death. So he was a strong believer in working smarter, not harder. You could walk around his little farm and just marvel at all his little innovations. I am trying to take that same path.

Good morning, Travis. I am a prime example of what you are talking about today. I am 51 years old and overweight. But I have taken active steps to change that in my life. And this is the key, we have to make the change. If one is able change can happen. I know all about limitations. Using me as an example I was diagnosed with Diabetes, but I did not accept that diagnoses. God and I got together and with his help he has turned that around. I have been working hard to eat right, exercise, and change the way I think about myself and what I eat. I used to weigh in at 400 lbs., but now I am at 298 lbs. I once was diagnosed with Diabetes now things are normal. Why, because I changed my mind. It can happen, everyone is different but if we want to change, change starts with us. Just want to encourage others. Thank you, Travis, for this video today. Keep exercising and eating well everyone. Train, train, train. Stay Vigilant, Stay Prepared, Faith Is Our Shield!

If you're elderly or disabled, you can still be very valuable to a tribe. In addition to skills or education you may already have, you can do household chores, assist with watching kids, provide intercessary prayer. Perhaps most importantly, you can be a lookout for the tribe - taking shifts so others can rest. Just don't lie about what you can do or what you're willing to do, as the tribe would rely on you for survival.

So... Here's my presentation. My wife and I are 56 & 57. I am handicapped, (lost one leg below the knee) . My wife is disabled. She lost the tips of some of her fingers due to gangrene and she has fibromyalgia. I am retired army and forcibly retired truck driver. My wife is a retired cook who is more comfortable cooking for many people rather than just me and her. I don't see us as being on the front line kind of thing but I can hunt, train and operate as back up as well as doing a few other things. My wife can sew and do other things as well. The words give up don't exist for us. At the moment, due to finances, we are not prepped up yet. Emphasis on yet. However, we do feel that we would be an asset to whatever community we end up in. The older I Get, the younger I used to be lol. Thanks for reading.

Other cultures value the elderly for their wisdom and knowledge. Life is a journey and when we are young we view time differently. I remember Dad telling me that first you think you know everything. Then, when you are 50, you realize there is so much you want to know but you will not live long enough to learn all of it. Right before he passed at 83, he said he wasn't ready yet. There was still some things he wanted to do.

#1 goal if you're older should be to share your knowledge and story. It may not be your fault, but to help make amends for the resentment that the young harbour as their future was taken from them, you putting an effort to ease or erase that will return ten fold in your favour when you really need it. Either mentor a young adult to increase the younger generations chances later on and your chances through the catastrophes that will befall us or write a memoir with everything you want to pass on to the next generations to help out. "A noble effort Is when one plants a tree knowing they will not enjoy the shade it provides". I'm caught in the middle seeing both sides, be the example of what needs to be in order to ensure that the future is not as grim as it could be, you owe it to the next generations as those before you have done for you.

Knowledge and wisdom... something these younger generations not only dont have but also seem to have no respect for. Single senior female. Living on $750 per month. Still relatively fit, no prescriptions. Have occasional heart palpations that I deal with using teas and essential oils. Definitely slowing down Full time nomad due to income. A lifetime of botanical knowledge and wild crafting. Well travelled. Good with firearms. Used to hunt and an accomplished animal hide tanner and leatherworker. Former career path was Sales, Bartender and Forest service worker. Deceased partner was a helicopter pilot that did search and rescue contracts and wildfire suppression. I miss gardening as its impossible to have a garden and live nomadically at the same time. Nomadic living also makes connecting with a group very difficult. In spite of everything, I do enjoy the way I find myself living...in the deep forests, the starkly beautiful and lonesome deserts. Enjoying every sunrise, every sunset, every full moon and all the sounds, smells and beauty of nature. I'm as prepared as someone in my position can be, for the most part... at any given time I have enough food to last me a couple months and water to stretch 3 to 4 weeks and I have a Berkey system for filtering when needed. My attitude is I'm here for whatever comes, and if it kills me, I have had an epic life and I still look forward to the next adventure... whatever that may be. Blessings to all!

He sold some land he inherited and paid cash money for his house plus 3 other houses he rented out and 3 one acre plots he gardened. He'd plant one, let the other two go fallow, then rotate them. He grew all the food and my grandmother would put it up in Mason jars. He also raised rabbits for meat and honey bees. For cash , he worked for the US Postal Service walking a route delivering mail in a big leather mail bag. This is how he supported 9 people through the Great Depression and the WW2 homeftront rationing. One of the 9 he supported was a little old man - a neighbor. His wife died of cancer and they moved him into their house and cared for him until his death in the early 1960s. As a child, I remembered him. I called him " Gaka." People took care of eachother back then. No government assistance.. That's the way it needs to be again. We all have a place in the tribe. We all contribute what we can.

We're 59 and 60, and both disabled. Hubs is still working an outside job. We knew our time of full productivity was coming to a close five years ago, so we started making changes around our place to help us as we age.

My mom is 92 and still takes care of her lovely 2-story home and gets on well alone. She was a 65-year smoker, but kicked them after a bout with cancer. When I suggest that a smaller one-story would be better, she crooks her finger at me and says "Don't tell me what to do!" Love you, mom!

Travis, a few weeks ago, as a 73 year old woman, I jackhammered an 8'X8'X10" slab. I moved that 2 ton of concrete to the dump by hand. I also moved - set - and leveled a 10X8 shed from one yard to the other, with its four 500 lb slabs. I agree - our ability has a lot to do with mind over matter and preparing both our bodies and minds. Most of all, the key is to have a relationship with Yeshua/Jesus. He WILL, through the Holy Spirit, guide, teach, and assist us. He will even send help when we are at the end of ourselves. He will also send us to help others. Shalom & Ahava Y'all

You go girl! I'm just shy of 58 with fibromyalgia, and I was proud that I was able to shovel and move a ton of gravel this past 2 days (I'm paying for it today but it sure made me feel good mentally that I could do it!) You are amazing!

Mind over matter doesn’t always work…..the body says enough is enough….i have worked physically demanding jobs all my life and my bones and joints say……I’ve had enough for the day…..I have to give my body a rest for about two days or so from over extending my body limitations……my motto is always pace yourself….do your jobs in stages…..weeding your garden in one day no longer works for me I need to do sections at a time over several days…..

funny you bring this up today. I was getting up out of my chair and my knees were hurting and creaking and my back is in pain and I said to myself (I talk to myself a lot because no one listens anyway 😂) how am I going to make it if I can't even get out of a chair. My plan is to do the best I can , where I am, with what I have. "Never give up, Never surrender" Cpt Taggart.

Why be gentle!?!? There is nothing gentle about old age! It's a brutal time of life! Reality isn't the little old lady sitting on her porch in a rocker. Let's be real!

Pete's wife here. Be careful of old ladies in the rocking chair on the porch. Some of us are locked and loaded all while we are knitting a pair of socks or a sweater. Love and joy to all, God Bless and keep moving forward with your preps.

I've been keeping the gas in my car full at all times. It's a small thing but it has helped get to a loved one who needed help faster twice in the last four months.

I am an elder & use a wheelchair or walker and I'm tired but I still maintain a garden, add trees & mid canapy bushes and lower fruit bushes to our property, each year. I have noticed that the birds are now abundant on my property and the earth worms are also much more abundant. Each year I also add more security and more prepperations for what ever is coming. Not just wasting breath.
