If we can remove our biases aside, I think it's clear that Devon played the best game. He was at the centre of every alliance, was always in the majority, and had the best awareness of what was actually going on. In a season with 9 idols, an extra vote, a vote nullifier used against him and a final 4 twist that screwed him he got to the final four without relying on any idols, twists or challenges. He had an exceptional social game and likely would've won without the final 4 twist. Chrissy benefited from the day 1 idol, and she is perhaps even gone at the Roark vote pre-merge if Ryan doesn't have a reason to keep her. Chrissy was blindsided when JP went home. She was blindsided when Joe went home (she likely would've gone home if she didn't win immunity that round). And at final 5 she also likely would've gone home if she didn't win immunity unless she did what Devon did and cast a vote for someone else (if all 4 vote for Ben then Chrissy is gone as Ben votes for Chrissy).
exactly this final production interference cost the best player the game which was devon he somehow constantly switched from alliance to alliance and was never a target and the one time he was he sniffed it out and played it well he had a say in all of the vote offs he did make one huge mistake though and it was when ashley told him they should vote out ben and keep joe and mike but devon said no and messed it up for himself
Corey Oman Devon had a feeling Ben had the idol long before tribal council and he had a feeling Ben would target him. It was definitely Devon's smarts that kept him in the game.
I really hate the twist. Survivor is about the TRIBE voting out people. I mean, TRIBE. Not who lost the challege type of game. Or Crissy decide who should go or stay. If the TRIBE couldn't decide then it is OK to go for challege or rock. As survivor fan who values the voting system (intergrity of the game) so much, I feel like this is not Survivor game anymore.
After not liking Chrissy, I was rooting for her last night. Immunity challenge beast. Ben is great and we knew he was going to win if going to the finale, but that twist was to help him.
Devon is so precious. Really wish he had beat Ben in that fire-making challenge. That advantage Chrissy won turned out to be a disadvantage for her and the rest of her alliance - Ben wouldn't have made it to the final 3 otherwise. I was also disappointed that Jeff didn't talk to the cast at all in the reunion show.
I think it was to avoid controversy about the awful twist. It will be interesting if they go back to the old format of the reunion next season. Then we will know for sure they did it to avoid controversy.
Ryan, real talk, I would date you. Wish you would've gotten the credit you deserved at final tribal. The jocks just can't admit it when the nerds best them. You and Chrissy played a phenomenal game from start to finish. I hope you get a second shot
Ben...was given extra time to find an idol last episode (you hear the players saying "when are they gonna take us to council" meaning the show was just waiting for Ben to find the idol,) found an idol the next episode under his fucking bed, and then gets to make fire to take himself to final three. Not only is this bad because he gets a free pass to final 3...but then he takes credit for all that shit as if he was behind it all!
Yep, he was lying down where he usually does and lo and behold there's the fucking idol. Also, he found one of the other idols while walking back from interview - which is the only time other players can't follow you. Suspicious?
You make it sound like he just happened to stumble upon the idol that was under the shelter...He found a CLUE in the woods that was hidden like all the idols found during the season
I was talking about the last idol he found - but since you wanna talk about that one, let's talk about it. The "CLUE" he found was discovered while walking back from an interview - the one time no one can follow you. Suspicious? Yes. Then, tribal is magically held late (as noted by the other players in the episode) while Ben is trying to get the idol. Suspicious? Yes.
THE FINAL VOTE SHOULD NEVER HAVE A TWIST. This is the biggest vote because all advantages are suppose to be taken out. It all comes down to ONE challenge and you either rely on your challenge ability or alliances you've built throughout the entire game. Tony convinced Woo with his social game even though tony was the right vote. Jeremy won immunity even though he was next to go. Power shouldn't be given to the player who can't win the last challenge or make alliances aka BEN. Hard to watch the show again when players don't keep the power they've earned over the last 39 days.
Gotta give Christy credit.. look at her so perfectly crap on Allie and others who talked junk on her. She has compassion for them.. LOL she's been crafting that response for weeks
i am thrilled Ben won. I loved the twist and hope they keep it. Ben worked his tail off and deserved that win just out of his tenacity and putting in the work looking for those idols as well as coming up from an underdog position... Good for him..
The reunion was pretty much the Ben show. I don't think anyone go more than 5 words in. Looks like Rob' s and Mike Blooms contest is going to be pretty close seeing how basically everyone else was ignored

Why did they deserve to win? Because they were all lounging around camp like lazy morons while Ben was hustling to find idols to stay? They all deserved to lose for that reason alone.
What really upsets me is that Chrissy, a master of game play and a bona fide challenge beast, won the final immunity challenge fair and square and then gets an "advantage" that takes control away from her and ultimately costs her the title and the money. The jury listened to Ben's "poor me" sob story for 39 days that taps into our national guilt of sending young men and women to become damaged people in dubious military operations. Also, unlike Chrissy's challenge wins, the jury got to see the idol plays right in front of their eyes which apparently left a much bigger impression... Rob picked Chrissy, not Ben, to be in the thumbnail for this video so, what does that tell you???
Yes but Adam and Jeremy both played very strategically and socially sound games. Ben didn't make a single strategic move that I can recall. All the "good moves" they showed of him during his winner's edit at the reunion, were Chrissy or Lauren or Devon's ideas to begin with. All he did was find Idols. He had zero social game.
@@LilannB Adam and Jeremy's sob stories were the reason I didnt like them as winners. There is a fine line with socializing and getting along with the jury and even getting a little emotional but to pander so cheaply is a win I am not okay with and so are a lot of people. That is why I didn't like Ben as a winner another reason than basically having a twist made for him and yes Devon practiced but Ben is a Marine which requires learning basic survival skills like making a fire so their is no competition there.
@@lafingscarecrow Great move but it was Devon's idea... And Devon was smart enough to know that it would jeopardize relationships so he asked Ben to do it for him. It ruined Ben's game, had no effect on Devon's social game and still accomplished its strategic goal.

LOL Chrissy having the energy to win immunity challenges but does not have the energy to form bonds with other tribe members. And with how much the producers manipulated Ben's win, I would not even be surprised if they gave him food secretly to find all those idols LMAO
I love how they try to make it seem not fixed since they're doing the final 4 "twist" next season too. And putting back every single idol after it was played was so fixed for ben - that wouldn't have happened in another season with another person. Chrissy may have been a good listener but there's a reason no one felt like they were actually friends with her. It's like they knew she was only taking to her for game reasons
They didn’t manipulate his win. It’s the players who SHOULDVE voted him out earlier. This happens a lot where good players make it too far and under unusual circumstances they can pull it out the last few weeks and win
i love devon. always laughing and smiling and looking at things in a positive way. he also looked at the f4 challenge as an opportunity. it might not have went his way, but i love that he wasn't bitter about and went out like a true sport. i think there a people out there that should view that twist the way devon did
Ben and Chrissy played great games...Ben found idols and made fire to keep himself in the game...Chrissy won challenges to keep herself in the game...which is more honorable?...WINNING CHALLENGES ofcourse...Chrissy is SUPER Smart...none of the guys could beat her in the challenges...she definitely deserved the title of SOLE SURVIVOR!
lmao that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard the only reason Chrissy won challenges except for 1 was to make sure Ben did not win them she never had her back against the wall expect one time, they all knew that Ben could beat them thats why they all teamed up on him, if she was smart she would have watched Ben more carefully, as for the twist they may have already of thought of it before the season was close to an end so we don't truly no if it was rigged.
Really surprised at how gracious of a loser Chrissy was. It was also a little jarring to hear the jury complimenting her so much at FTC after the edit she received and the things players have been saying about her in exit interviews.
Great work as always Rob. I just cant accept Ben as the winner of this season without putting an asterisk by his name. It was flat out rigged. That advantage was a disadvantage! I hate that Ben won but it was obviously not rigged as Jeff revealed that there would be a secret advantage at the last challenge days before it even happened; he couldn't have known who it would hurt or help until after the challenge was won, and even then...
What do you mean he couldnt have known? He knew Ben had no alliance so threw in this special lifeline in case Ben lost the f4 challenge. Ben either won f4 immunity or he didnt. If he didnt the wording of the "advantage" made it a guarantee that Ben had a 50-50 shot of making it to the end.
seriously as the under dog at the end Ben deserved to win. He worked hard to find idol after idol working to find them when everyone else was sleeping or whatever, then playing them at the right time to twist the game over and over. It was exciting to see. They plan the twist and turns to make the show more interesting and do so before the show starts taping. Most on the jury wanted Ben out because they knew he could win, and yet they voted him the winner so?
I really like that Ben won, but that firemaking challenge felt like the producers or something were interfering with the game. I don’t know if they’ve ever done that before, but if they haven’t, that looks incredibly suspicious.
Production did two things that have never been done before the stupid f4 twist and the introduction of a new idol at f5. So put simply, yes the season was rigged.
@@lafingscarecrow Idols can be played at F5 but introducing an idol so late in the game, up to that point, was unprecedented. I am obviously using the term "rigged" rather loosely but basically they gave Ben every opportunity possible to stay in the game and when he blew the F4 immunity, they gave him a 50-50 to get to the end. Nothing can be proven, but Probst admitted that he was sick of the "hero" getting voted out at final 4 and so they introduced the twist to give Ben a chance. This is contrary to producers in previous seasons saying, that everything in the season is planned in advance. It was very obviously impromptu, not to mention unfair because it didn´t give the players any chance to play around it like they had in consequent seasons.

I didn’t want Ben to win just as much as the next guy, but they didn’t rig the game for him to win. Were the idols maybe a little too easy to find? Maybe. However, we also know that the other players were not following him like they should have, and he would search for hours on end. I’m also fairly certain production had the final 4 twist ready before the season started. He’s not a very good winner and he had a lot of lucky breaks, but they didn’t rig it for him.
Idols have never been introduced at f5 before, so players shouldnt have to follow him for all hours of the night. Not to mention none of them could have played around that awful twist at f4.
dayatdayatan christian eh, I thought the casting was pretty good. I genuinely liked at least six people and it was fun to watch. I thought Chrissy should've won but oh well, Ben was good too
So many bitter people. There were several idols/ advantages in the game that were found by different players. Some were played correctly, some weren't. Ben didn't have to rely on finding idols until the end of the game. The other players could've taken turns following Ben to prevent him from finding idols. I mean, what else were they doing? Ben was also strategic, he flipped on his alliances at the right time and he fought hard. I didn't start off a Ben fan but by the end he proved that he deserved to win.
He earned and deserved Final 4. And if he win final immunity challege, he probably one of amazing winner ever. But that twist make him a lame and rigged winner. Looks like producer knew Ben probability to win Final immunity challege is very slim so they wanted to find another way for Ben to the Final 3. I'm not surprised if they gave Devon a wet or faulty Flint & Steel.
kiuar83 you do realize that the final advantage was made before the final immunity challenge was won played, right? If Ben didn't mess up with that upside down U, he would've won immunity. Then it probably would've been Chrissy vs Devon in the fire making challenge, and a different group of people would be calling the game rigged.
Nope. I still say the twist was made to save Ben. The difference is, Ben as a winner looks more deserving. I don't like the twist regardless who wins the challenge or win fire making challenge. Survivor should be about voting off people by the Tribe. Not goes home because of the challenge. In Devon's case, the "Tribe was not spoken" because it what not the tribe wanted. Chrissy who fought hard to win immunity challenge has very little power to eliminate people to the Final 3. What make it worse was, it looks like disadvantage that she won because whoever survives in fire making challenge will get respect from Jury.
The fire-making challenge made no difference to Ben, if he had won f4 immunity. Production just wanted a back up, lets get Ben to the end in case he lost f4 challenge. The fact he had 50% chance to make it to the end over 25% at f4 just goes to show how retarded the new twist is.
I cant believe im writing this but honestly this is the only time i felt like survivor was rigged. Some of the previous players even said they could also see that production really favoured ben, and if you are a survivor fan yourself, you should be able to tell some parts of the game were clearly played to ben's favour. For example, the clues from the idols, like the one where he found the idol where he sleeps and the one time where he found another one coming out from a confessional. You cant possibly deny this "coincidence". LETS NOT EVEN START ABOUT CHRISSY'S "ADVANTAGE". As for chrissy, i do feel like she was held to a higher standard or even unfairly received bc of the fact that she is a woman. Basically ben won because he was favoured, found idols, was a marine and has ptsd.

Crissy was so fake though.. when she made her speach about knowing a little detail about everyone... like yeah but you did that FOR the game. Like when she tried to make up with Ben towards the end just so that he would vote for her at the end. I don't judge it at all, it's a good game move to befriend everyone but it was so clearly fake. Real good social players actually care and develop real relationship. idk. it was very weird how she said that.
What if Crissy would have Taken Ben to final 3 and made Ryan & Devon make fire. Regardless of who won, but guessing would have been Devon, would it have changed the jury's decision? Would having a real third contender (sorry, Ryan, but let's be serious) helped Chrissy's chances to win or made it worse? Would it have made Ben less in their eye's, that one 'free ride'?
I was thinking about this too. It would have been a hell of a statement from her. To be able to say that Ben might have only gotten to the end because she took him there. I think she would have lost Ryan's jury vote to Devon though.
Yes. Chrissy should have shocked the show right back and took Ben to the final and let Devon and Ryan make fire and hopefully, Devon made it to the final. She would have increased her chances significantly hoping Ben and Devon would cancel each other out so to speak. She was too fixated on taking Ryan to the end not because of their alliance, but because she thought he was the ultimate goat.
There's a big possibility that Devon would have won if that had happened. BUT it wouldn't make sense for Chrissy to pit her 2 closest allies against each other. That would be absurd and funny and ridiculous. Chrissy would lose all juries votes for doing that.
***WTF happened to the survivor reunion. It was the shortest ever, and we didn't get to hear from anyone but the final 3 just very briefly. Guess the editors couldn't cut too much film footage from the main show, and that is why it overlapped almost 20 minutes into the reunion show***
If they discussed it in advance, how did none of the players have a clue about it? There is no hard and fast rule for idols being introduced it seems as though idols have been introduced at the whim of the production team. Some post merge idols have never been reintroduced after they have been played. Indeed an idol has never been reintroduced at f5 in any season up till now.
Hot take: It's better to be on the bottom. At times it's better to know you're on the chopping block because you have complete control in your hands and you know you MUST find idols and/or win individual immunity. That's why there wasn't that much strategic social strategy in the latter half of Bens game. Branching off on that, do you think there should be another layer of strategy at TC's to not hype up those underdog players? For example, allowing Ben to pull the wool over everyone's eyes at the tribal councils really shed a spotlight on him. It's the glitzy game moves that ultimately impact the jury. Just thoughts! I"d love to see only the final challenge winner guaranteed a spot in the final while the others all have to make fire without flint real survivor style.
CBS Survivor will have Chrissy back because every true survivor fan knows she should have won. They handed Ben the win. Hence they really wanted a Veteran to win. Chrissy totally should have won. Ben shouldn't even been in the final 3.
That twist was horrible. People that SHOULD be going home dont because of it. Survivor loves putting power into the players' hands, so why take that away by forcing a fire challenge between people instead of only instituting it if there's a tie? The show is restricting people. I don't like to cry "fixed" and "rigged" but its so hard for me to say it wasn't added just to shove ben into a win

Also, a show named "Survivor" made players demonstrate survival skills to earn a spot in the final 3. Gasp! How dare they?!.... I like the fire challenge and I hope it stays.
I liked it too. I do hope they keep it for a little while or just keep putting a twist there just to stop the "it was rigged" talk. Like shit like this has happened before on the show, wasnt it like Malcolm who found 3 idols so his 3 dude alliance was safe. (maybe it was malcom I always mix poeple's name lol). And its not the first time that someone found idols on repeat, he searched allllll night and they never fallowed him. or looked for it themselves. I'ld like for the jury to vote for the third person ahaah. I think it would be a fun twist. And anyway, if you get voted out by them at top 4, you would not have won.
The survival skills at final 4 should be based on your challenge abilities (winning immunities / final immunity) and social game you've built up for 38 days (by convincing people to vote certain way and force a tie, hence a fire making challenge). Yes, Ben showed great will and perseverance at finding idols, but at final four, the fairest rule is that people vote based on the end game that they pictured themselves in to win the game. The twist takes that away completely.
Agree with everything everybody else said about this twist destroying what Survivor is supposed to be about. At the very least if they're going to pull something like that, the contestants should have known ahead of time and been allowed to adjust their game plan. Survivor is supposed to be about strategical adaptability and social awareness. But now all it did was screw over the two best players (Chrissy and Devon) and we end up with debatably one of the worst winners ever; as far as I'm concerned, THE worst. It would have been fun if they'd known, to see them adjusting their strategies... like when they did BvW, how everybody changed the way they were voting to take into account the other tribe? It would have been a game changer, and Jeff loves those, doesn't he? People who would normally bring big target players close to the end as shields (which a lot of winners had been doing recently) would be forced to rethink their strategy to get to the end, now THAT would have been interesting. And what Survivor is really about.

Following The Son Did you just say the best player always wins? Do you own a brain? Anyone who relies on idols and last minute production twists to win is relying on CBS production to win. If we judge players on how they'd do repeatedly in 100 games with different people and different twists, Chrissy would do better on average, because you can't always be in a season with 9 idols and random twists that completely alter the game. You CAN rely on individual immunities and strategic manipulation.

Pretty quick conclusion when she started in on how great she was, time to wrap up before she gives all her social media points of contact, etc. This was a great public forum to promote herself - and she tried. Biggest drawback is she appeared to be self-promoting and a lot of agencies can be turned off when it is overdone. Seemed really bad when she started in all of her accomplishments at home, etc. Sorry, this is a Survivor interview; answer the question asked please without listing how great you are yet again. Should have convinced her other tribal players before they left not just spout little details she had culled from them as her 'social game.' She did well, will give her that, as far as challenges. Socially? Nope, if she appeared condescending to me from day one, pretty sure those on the island picked up on it as well. I'm glad Ben didn't fall for her wanting to be friends.
To me, the only possible returnees this season are Ben and Devin. I think Devin has a better chance of playing again because it kinda looks like he got screwed in final four. Even Taran said he got screwed.
Except Mike won the final Immunity and the game fair and square. Ben didn't, and had a rigged twist that completely changed the basic format of the game.
I get that a lot of people hate the idols, but I personally like them. Without them Ben loses, and if someone is willing to put countless hours into finding an idol so he can keep playing, because no one wants to work with him, kudos to him.
Mescat33 Does nobody remember Russell? That's what happens when you have no social game and idol yourself to the end. Clearly none of the final 3 were particularky good at the social aspect of the game. Which is why I was upset that this twist screwed Devon over, because he played the best game, had rock solid friendships with everybody and would have swept the votes in the finals. He wins if Chrissy doesn't get this DISadvantage.

@@lafingscarecrow Tony did have a social game, which I could have a debate about but let's not get into the tiny details. I didn't even like Tony's game in Cagayan but I'll admit he did have a smart social game. Social game is not just about being liked, it's about working hard at building (and in Tony's case, more so repairing) relationships. It doesn't come naturally to everyone. He wasn't very good with his relationships but he was very self-aware about it and he worked hard to fix things constantly. And he allied himself to someone who could do the bulk of it for him (Trish). I would kind of agree with your last statement in that, ideally, you don't want to ONLY use social game. I prefer seeing strategy too. However, some people have won using only social game. I wouldn't say you suck if you do that because it's been proven to work in the past, but you definitely have odds stacked against you in getting to the end, I don't think somebody could do it in the modern era of the game; and it's less fun to watch.

Why Chrissy should have won 1. She knocked the shit out of Katrina 2. She knocked the Living shit out of Roark ("I'm outsmarting Ms. Smarty Pants") 3. Knocked the shit out of Ali 4. Knocked the shit out of Jessica (That was her idea for the 7) 5. Knocked the shit out of Desi 6. Knocked the shit out of Ashley (once again her idea and got her way) 7. Won 4 challenges 8. Had a lap dog (Ryan) 9. That advantage wasn't an advantage and would not be surprised if production told Ben to practice making a fire.
She decided halfway through that she had it made, and that her alliances were going to stay true. She said it. Then she would start feverishly trying to strategize on who they should vote out next, naming names and refusing to shut up. In Public. With other players 2’ away within earshot. With a player who was supposed to be a secret alliance. The flippancy. If someone had shown that lack of discretion in guarding a secret alliance and potentially getting me targeted by initiating and continuing these kinds of conversations with others so near (and asking about said discussion)… I’d cut that ally.
Your argument is ridiculous, because to make it you have to admit that Ben was a great enough player to beat Chrissy in the final. Therefore he deserved to win. Chrissy and Devon and Ryan were sitting around camp while Ben was hustling every morning and night to find idols to keep himself in the game. He deserved it far more than those lazy a-holes did.
the fire contest was obviously fake. if they werern't favouring ben then Devon would've won. they literally showed him fake a fire in under a minute in the beginning of the episode

I'm really bored of all these people saying Ben played the best game. Sure, finding all those idols was fun to watch, but that's not the best game we saw. Yes, he did have a good social game, but there were people with better one, like Devon, Lauren, Jessica, Ali, Ashley, Mike... His strategy wasn't that good, Chrissy beat him there, just like on the challenges. I really think that him being a veteran and having PTSD made the biggest impact, and I don't like it, it has nothing to do with the Survivor. I did admire his dedication. Mike was totally right here. Or you make the final twist known, so people can strategize around it, or stop with the idols at the f6. There should've been at least 1 tribal at the end where only your social and strategic game would decide your fate. Ben didn't have to care about either of it for too long! That had to cost him somehow, but no, Devon paid the price, and Chrissy did. I don't like it. JP didn't vote for Chrissy?! Disappointed. The only reason he got to the merge is Chrissy.
Everyone is so butthurt in these comments. Just get over it. Ben got to end and he deserved to win. Devon messed up by not getting rid of Ben when he was the secret agent.

I don't think Devon was cheated because there are even survivor finales with 2 instead of 3 people sitting at the end of the game. With this logic, Cirie was cheated on in Survivor Micronesia. They were expecting 3 finalists but instead there were 2
I like Chrissy a little bit better after the interview, although I don't like how she puts her fingers in her ears when people ask if she's treated differently as a woman, or if people are voted out by demographics. Personally I see clear demographic patterns in voting on Survivor. And she definitely knows that people are held to a different standard when they are women. She really missed a chance to speak about that by shrugging it off.
I think it seemed as if their were to much idols this season because most of the other season's people wouldn't play their idol consecutively, take Tai for example he had 3 idols but waited so long to play them all in the game changers season.
This would be the season I’d want a final two Chrissy would win immunity and would be the only one voting But if Ben won that immunity, we’d have another Cire Micronesia moment
I never ever reacted so strongly to a Survivor finale like I did with Ben making it to the final 3. I though it was impossible for him sense top 6. So happy for Ben, he truly deserved it, especially against entitled people like Chrissy with zero self awareness and Ryan who was completely clueless. By the way I knew Devon was unfairly over hyped by people who needed someone to route for against Ben. What kind of strategic Survivor Fan votes for RYAN to be the winner, Considering Ben destroyed him in the fire making challenge and Ryan was taken to finale because he was a dream goat. Devon was so naive he bought Ryan lies in the finale. Although watching this interview he seems like a smart genuine guy, I would say him, Ben and Lauren were my favorites after the merge.
