I don’t have a problem with Jeff changing “Come on in, guys” to “come on in.” The theatrics and groveling Jeff did to the cameras and contestants in two separate segments was certainly cringe-worthy. It was apparent he was intent on changing it, so why didn’t he just change it quietly and move on? If it was the right thing to do, no need to make a scene about it.
I'm kind of glad they addressed it. I probably wouldn't have noticed it otherwise, and that's the point of addressing stuff like that is to make people aware. I think the way they handled to was fine. I don't think it was a whole song in dance, to me it didn't feel like it took more than maybe 2 minutes.
@@NagaBomb they addressed it twice in the episode . It’s the word “guys “. Give me a break . Is supposed to make us aware of “aware” of what ? You’re kidding right? No one has ever been offended by the phrase “come on in guys” until this new woke era where everyone decided it’s trendy to be offended by things that don’t matter . It’s a show for entertainment at the end of the day , something to escape this kind of BS .. we get enough of it on the news .
@@tanner6184 I know they addressed it twice. I think the combined time of both addresses it feel like it took more than two minutes. Yeah, it's the word "guys" so it missing shouldn't matter. What I feel it makes people aware of is sometimes we have exclusive grammar without noticing it. I even mentioned in my comment that if they had just not addressed at Jeff started saying "Come on in", I probably wouldn't have noticed. Maybe the production was just doing for "woke" points, but I think the way Jeff discussed it was a good role model for handling situations like that. Not to say that this situation or situations like it require a methodology. But he acknowledge something he's done for a long time, and wondered if he had possibly been excluding anyone with his speech and was proactive. But even like you said, "it's just a word" so it being gone shouldn't be that big of a deal. I only follow Fox News, so I don't really see this kind of way handling situations like this at all. lol
@@tanner6184 Okay, well it seems to me that maybe you shouldn't watch it because if people addressing it gets you this hyperbolic to say, "No one" without considering maybe there are people, then I don't know what to tell you. I don't know wither about it shoving it down our throats, it wasn't that much of a 2 hour episode. I think this was one of the better starts to a season in a long time, even without the "guys" discussion. So I'd be surprised if rating plummeted. But I could be wrong, seems like there are a lot of people overly sensitive about a talk about a word being removed. Is there a better way you would have liked to see it handled?
he definitely surprised me. he seems to be self aware and knows that ppl don't think high of him which enables him to make calculated decisions and fly under the radar
I will say that i really liked that both Abraham and Sara were good sports in their exits, both of them could of been angry, but they weren’t and accepted their loss graciously.
@@hexywesky survivor really isn’t about sportsmanship. Don’t get me wrong I don’t like seeing people complain when they exit but it’s nice to get a fight on the way out instead of everyone just being like gg. I just want good tv.
I wonder how much nudging Ricard got from production in confessionals/interviews to change his mind on the issue. Jeff obviously wanted to change it and wanted it to be a big moment with one of the lgbt+ contestants. Pretty cringe. Other than that manufactured and awkward bit, it was a breezy fun episode. It's nice to have a cast full of normal contestants and nobody's being an asshole or too much of a character.
honestly this casting is horrible it seems like they only casted so many members of lgbtq community to say they casted more diverse it almost feels like they didn’t care much who they were as ppl they can now say they had a diverse cast for 41. it also feels like half the cast has never seen the show
The last event I attended before Lockdown last year was Live Know-it-Alls in LA, the episode when Boston Rob got voted out!! Thank goodness we had a nice time before everything changed. So happy to have Survivor & the Know-it-Alls back 😄😄
Just curious how it is that Ricard was persuaded to vote for Sara when he seems headset on voting JD. Who persuaded him and what shape did that conversation take?
I think it was Shan who persuaded him into changing his votes. See as much as I liked all the background stories they gave to the contestants I think it too away from giving us more information into the gameplay
But, Ricard was the only one with a choice. The rest of the cast’s opinions didn’t matter. So the contestants didn’t necessarily get a voice in my opinion.
I think they should add an extra 30 min episode every week just for Paramount plus. You don't need those clips to know what's happening but it can add extra for the people who want to watch.
Lets be real Jeff was going to change come on in guys anyway and him asking the contestants was a crutch. Now Ricard is in a situation where fans are mad at him for something that was 100% Jeff's decision.
Probably not a popular opinion but I think not being able to say come on in guys, is just excessive sensitivity. He is not being sexist. It's just a word. Just not necessary.
I feel like Geenie may have thrown a vote at Ricard to save Brad if Sara was successful in playing her "shot in the dark." Forcing a tie where Geenie, Brad, and JD vote Ricard.
okay, so i’m not on the boat of saying that the shows ruined or that i’m not watching because of the removal of guys from the catchphrase. my problem is that it’s really not a big deal to say guys in the first place. it doesn’t offend anyone, and if it does then they need to check their priorities. just my opinion though. survivor wants to stay woke that’s fine, but i agree maybe not discussing it on screen would’ve been a better idea.
I thought that the episode was amazing! The diversity of the cast was so dynamic and fun. There were multiple new personalities that I felt like we haven’t seen on the show before that I really found to be likable and entertaining. I love love loved the new editing choices. The slow motion shots during challenge were thrilling, the flashbacks to individual player’s lives were great for getting to know people, and the votes weren’t predictable. The discussion about “guys” was interesting because I’d never considered that being odd. It felt a little forced by Jeff but maybe that’s okay. It’s a shame some people are getting so worked up over it. Whether Jeff says “guys” or not doesn’t affect the show majorly. Overall, very fresh and interesting start to an awesome season!
@@MrTedMcForehead Well that’s a weird thing to be mad about lol. Having more groups represented and in greater numbers should be seen as a positive. It allows for new personalities that we haven’t seen before. I think if u don’t hyper focus on there being more lgtbq players that u could just enjoy them as players more.
@@jakers4294 if there were 18 job openings to your dream job, 100 of the applicants were normal like you, 15 of them were former pro athletes and 12 of the 15 athletes job the job, and 6 of the 100 normal people got the job, you're telling me you would say that's fair? dont lie.
@@MrTedMcForehead Weird analogy that doesn’t apply. Obviously you are directing the answer to be me saying that the all athletes should be picked. I just think that more diversity on the show makes for better characters and social dynamics.
I really like the behind the scenes, 4th wall additions. I think most Survivor fans are interested in what goes on behind the scenes, and it's an interesting addition.
Maybe this is a hot take but I’m all in for this season. I find the changes refreshing, and the pace of the game definitely pulls me in. I’ll allow that all the changes all at once are a lot to take in, but I can’t help but feel every member of production have made really good decisions leading into this. I was really enjoying the editing style they’re going for as well.
Really happy with the episode, I picked the first boot in preseason correctly and yet all the players I was looking forward to found themselves in hot water early in JD, Brad and Danny
omg i was so not expecting rob to mention my all-time favorite korean game show "the genius" which is pretty much just like survivor but in a studio setting
I think someone in the voting block was smart enough to realize that if Sara won the dice roll, that she would be safe and if they all tossed their votes at her - whoever she voted would be going home that night. So they suggested that Genie vote Ricard. This makes sense because Genie or Brad seem like the two most honest people there (with Genie getting the nudge imo because she's not playing the social game) AND voting for Ricard would be voting off her closest ally with Sara going home the next vote. The question is 1. Is it true that someone thought through this line of logic? 2. Was it Shan or JD? My money's on Shan. *I'm late to starting the season, but came here right after I watched the first episode! This might be covered later, but it was glossed over at the beginning of this episode at least.
You guys said Jeff gave the contestants a voice but really he gave one contestant a voice and this one contestant made this one big decision. He didn’t take a poll with the fans and he didn’t really ask if anyone disagreed with Ricard.
Agreed 💯. Iconic lines (IMO) include "39 days, 18 people, 1 survivor", "the tribe has spoken", "you are going to have to dig deep", etc. But "come on in guys"? That's a "line"? 🤣
Stephen every time I am parched and take a drink of water, I imagine my dessicated corpse being revived like the scene in Underworld. I'm so glad you made that reference 😂
surprised that I don't see more praise - imo this was a VERY fun premiere. yeah the "come on in guys" stuff was awkward but apart from that I generally like the casting quite a lot at first sight. also very glad that there hasn't been any ultra-strong advantage yet - bonus vote or 17% chance are both fine imo!
I hope by now you guys have read the comments and understand the issue people have isn't with removing the word guys, it's was with Jeff's showboatiness about it. He could've just stopped friggin saying it. Quitting the show over one annoying incident is silly BUT I do hope production is able to read the room and edit out, or at least edit down, any more of Jeff's self-serving performativity throughout the rest of the season.
I'm wondering if Genie threw a vote at Ricard just in case Sarah was safe, and she thought he was sceaming too much? I wonder if she can hide that she was the one that voted for him?
I agree , He comes off as a character who will want revenge for that vote. I really hope not though because I Like her alot. She seems very calm and level and I think she could go deep in the game
@@MekhiCapital She's literally the ONLY person in that whole tribe whose name did not come up at all for elimination this week. Sarah Wilson said in her exit interview that she was really good at connecting with people and making them feel safe. I'm not saying it's not possible for the tables to turn on her, but unless she royaly screws up a challenge next week, I don't see people like Brad and JD wanting to turn on her that quickly. Also, just saying, if this is a legit spoiler, seriously just stop. Don't be that dick.
Maybe I’m just different but I hardly even care about most of the sayings such as “come on in guys”. That’s not part of the game for me at all, usually I’m not paying attention to that. I’ll only recognize it’s specifically different because of the ppl talking about it.
I would of liked to see the vote flipped on Ricard. Sarah and JD both realizing they're on the block should of said wait a minute, lets just save ourselves and blindside Ricard since he was calling the shots. Sarah seemed strong in challenges and in the puzzle.
I’ll keep watching, for sure, but it was all a bit complicated. Now that I’ve looked it up, I guess I understand the prisoner’s dilemma concept (never heard of it before today), but as I was watching the fast-paced show, I didn’t have a clue. Also the other gimmicky things left too much swirling around in my head. I may grow to like this more, but I’ve got to say that so far, I like the old format better. Also, I’m not a fan of two tribals in a single episode. If they do two tribal councils in hour-long episodes, not much time left for other content. I actually like the hanging around camp stuff and seeing alliances and rivalries develop. Good to see Rob and Stephen back together. … mrs greg
Voting out Abraham was bad idea in my opinion. Whatever people think, especially when you have three tribes you need strenght. They will probably lose next immunity challenge too
Her persona of the mafia pastor is awesome, the evil hum she does when she's up to no good is hilarious. She seems to have a solid social an strategic game aswell. I would pick her as my winner but I feel she's getting far too much of an obvious winner edit that she can't actually be the winner. She's absolutely the person I want to win more than anyone else but I just have a bad feeling that she can't possibly because they're giving her too much screen time early.
Hey, DND player here who deals with a lot of dice. That urn is most likely a dice tower, that tumbles and rolls the dice for you when you drop it into it. The addition of a dice tower at the voting table makes players who want to go for it, have to roll it the same way and uniformly as other players. It’s honestly the most fair way, because otherwise you’d inevitably get controlled rolls or half-hearted ones. Also it adds a certain level of production value!
Maybe I misunderstood when they were introducing the twist, but I thought they just placed the die in the urn and then drew 1 piece of paper from another urn that I presume has 5 "lose your vote" options and 1 "safe" option. Do they actually roll the paper that they pick?
@@chadross8254 a craps(gambling) trick that's actually pretty easy with muscle memory(that being said they wouldn't have enough time to practice with that specific weight of dice)
I really thought xander would be that dumb player but surprisingly, he made calculated decisions. and it's good that the other players perception of him is the same. keeps him under the radar.
I think its important these conversations are being had. Survivor is using itself as a platform (that reaches multiple lifestyles from conservative, progressive, old, young, countless countries) to inform their viewers on relevant topics. The fact of the matter is that if these conversations help and give light to at least ONE person then its worth being talked about. If people are valuing the 'tradition of survivor' over the level of acceptance that viewers feel about themselves then they should reconsider. Also these conversations do so much more than what is being specifically talked about, having these conversations and taking actions influences viewers to hopefully do the same and makes our lifestyles so much more accepting and respectful. I really hope viewers can put aside their own personal interests and look at how what Survivor is doing is better for the wider community.
On Deshawn & Danny looking for the idol and if it was exaggerated, PERCEPTION IS REALITY. Naseer THOUGHT they were shafting the challenge to get an advantage for themselves. Fortunate it didn't bit them in their asses.
Were Sarah and Rickard in the outs? Maybe thats why Rickard received one vote in case Sarah was safe then it would be a tie with JD and then Rickard would be out on the revote?
People aren't pissed about the catch phrase changing. They've just reached a breaking point for getting preached at and lectured to by the perverts of Hollywood. Guys isn't a bad word. Jeff and crew using that as a lure to fish for pats on the back is ham-fisted and gross.
I wasn't to impressed with this primer and cast, but in the past there has ben some primer episodes that weren't that good and then the season turns out great. I hope this season gets better.
Robb, being honest here I don’t think you understand why people are upset and might leave the show for removing “the come on in guys” Nobody cares about them removing it but instead what it symbolizes. For a country that is ridiculously politically divided this is just another example to those on one side of the debate that Hollywood stands opposed to them believes that their opinions their way of life is completely outdated. To many of those fans who watched loyally for years and supported the show even in its low years it’s kinda spitting in their face. Furthermore the kind of attitude of writing it off as no big deal will only make these fans feel more abandoned not less. We as a country have to acknowledge that near 50% of country for each candidate and that writing off the feelings of either base is bad for business
I couldn't even finish the first episode, it was that bad IMO. Survivor's been on the decline for years regardless, but if CBS wants to completely tank the show now with bullshit hyped up "woke-ness" to prove just how politically correct they are, by all means. I give the show another 2-3 years before its off the air. 🙄
Am a huge Survivor fan from Season 1, not a fan with this new format at all, 2 survivors per week, no understanding why Sarsh and Abraham was voted out . Dont like it all. May lose me as a surperfan
HAHAHA Look how quick Rob & Fishbach are to suck up to Jeff & production & praise them for these idiotic political montages that completely ruin the show . Like anyone was actually offended by the word guys . Give me a break 😂
