Thailand is so difficult for me to watch, and the way Ghandia was treated and edited was absolutely one of the reasons. Thank you all for talking about it as openly and honestly as you all did. Can't imagine how hard it'd be to still have to play a game. Or just any real life issues that affect the way you play. Loving the team here!
THANK YOU for actually talking about how inappropriate Ted and others were acting. Ghandia was treated horribly. The community needs to wake up and do better. Because there are other channels/pods that do not address this the same way...
I'm amazed that RHAP was able to make a podcast about Survivor Thailand enjoyable! This was so much fun! I had to stop watching the Redemption Island one because I felt like the whole time they were saying, "it wasn't that bad," but for this one they were all, "this sucked!" and it was great.
I once had a dream Jan won final immunity and even though she had a stronger relationship with Brian chose to take clay to final tribal. Brian then starts crying and I watched happily as Brian's torch is snuffed while the jury claps. Most satisfied I've ever been with a dream!
I remember enjoying Thailand quite a bit back in the day, but I'm sure things have changed since then. Still, I wouldn't rate it so low, but that's just me.
When I think about it that flag challenge was probably the worst. It’s one of those games where whoever goes first can win every time if they know the trick and always leave their opponents on certain numbers.
But if they do a bad move, the other team could take the lead. In Survivor all the moves at the beginning were bad plays, and the other team didn't take It home
The victim blaming of Ghanaian by the players and production and Jeff is disgusting. I will never watch this season again. I think this is just as bad if not worse than season 39. It hurts my love for Survivor.
I Love the podcast for a terrible season! Great work from all dealing with a boring season and difficult topics. Not sure branding Clay as a white guy from the south is the best take tho...JT anyone?
And thats why from all the Survivor shows on this channel i watch only David Bloombergs Why blank lost. Why all people hate tahiland?! It was first time when a person I rooted for won (first time in 5 seasons). IDC about out of Survivor stuff.
This season is too high. It's the absolute worst. There is nothing redeemable about it. Everyone is either dull or terrible. Jake(!) is the most interesting character. They do all these logic-puzzle-type challenges with contestants that are absolutely terrible at them (the flag one especially). The reason I don't like Shi-Ann is because she thinks she's a lot smarter than everyone else, but actually doesn't do anything to back that up. I am horrified that they let Jan teach kids and it explains a lot about the US educational system. There is nothing fun or exciting about any of these characters, even Robbb. I don't think people who ranked this stuff have watched Thailand, at least not recently. That's the only explanation I have for why this uncomfortable and cringeworthy borefest was ranked above two other seasons. Some comments about the discussion here: 1. Brian is a lot worse of a winner than Tommy, because Brian had no social game. He was so dislikable that he almost lost to Clay of all people. Meanwhile everyone trusted Tommy and he was everyone's number one in a season with players that weren't incompetent, and that is because he built genuine bonds with people. 2. As a historian, I don't get why people want to censor this stuff, and this goes for 39, too. The show is the way it is, and I think you need to show these horrible incidents to understand how terrible they are. Thailand is a product of its time and to have an appropriate discussion of the season, you have to show it in its entirety. Don't knock down statues; don't strike names from history books; don't alter fictional or non-fictional books, shows or whatever. Let the history speak for itself. Survivor Thailand speaks for itself as the worst season in the history of the show, with the worst cast.
To try to continue the season I started watching on 2 or 3 times speed and when it came to the fish challenge I looked away for a few seconds and out of knowhere the challenge was over and the victory music was playing.
I can’t stand watching this season I had to stop after the 6th episode because I just really didn’t want to continue. That 3rd and 4th episodes were the most difficult to watch episodes I’ve ever seen I felt so bad for Ghandia! Finding out that Ted gets out 5th, Clay gets 2nd, and Brian gets 1st just made me really not want to keep watching the season as I couldn’t stand Ted and I really didn’t like a lot of comments Brian and Clay were making. I may go back to it at the very end after watching every other season just so I can have watched everything. I also didn’t like a lot of stuff said by Robb on the other tribe.
So I've been rewatching every season. Going along with this list in order . I must say that Jake was my favorite character from the whole season. I loved him and in a different early season , he could be a winner. Also still don't know why Clay was as hated as he was , the edit didn't really show him to be such an ass. Also same with Brian , his edit didn't come across as " worst winner of all time " like I see in the comment sections
The issue with Brian isn't that he's a bad winner - he objectively played a great and solid game the whole season, his only real struggle was doing poorly at FTC, which didn't even matter since he won. The issues with Brian is that he's a psycho. Dude murdered a dog with a crossbow after Survivor ended. He also was asked back for both All Stars and Heroes Vs Villains, and both times he refused unless he'd be paid a crapton of money for just appearing. He makes lots of sexist and gross comments, and the way he stirs up the Ted/Ghandia stuff after they've already buried the hatchet, makes it even worse.
@@spencerclark4726 I heard the puppy incident was accidental? I could ve wrong but, j thought he did an interview on rhap explaining the whole situation
Thailand also ranked at #38 for me. This cast is probably the worst of any season of Survivor ever. The most memorable person is Shii Ann, and given the fact that she doesn't even make the jury doesn't help. The Ted and Ghandia moment is cringe-worthy at best and not enjoyable to watch. The fake merge was not good here or when they almost entirely repeated it in All Stars, and honestly, it just makes the gameplay even more boring. Nothing exciting or fun really happens outside of the battle bridge challenge, and the season is such a snoozefest the whole time. Brian literally won this season just because he was the only on his tribe who played the game. If he was on Amazon or Pearl Islands, he would've been gone pre-merge or early marge at best, and he proved he's not very good at jury management. This season just isn't very enjoyable by any means, but one can always get a laugh at a used car salesman misspelling road trip.
After re watching this season and doing some research, I can see why Shii Ann’s the only one to come back. Too many contestant bridges have been burned. Brain shot a puppy, so no one wants to see him come back. Clay was so unlikeable and ignorant. Jan was nice, but boring. Helen was awesome, but she accidentally leaked production secrets to a newspaper so producers aren’t going to trust her. As for the other contestants, Jake was probably the most likeable contestant this season, but by now he might have aged out of the system. Although I’m surprised he wasn’t asked back for all stars or even fans vs favorites. Ken was cool but probably not as memorable. Erin was just wishy washy dead weight on the show, and Penny was just an annoying phony Elisabeth Hassleback wannabe. The grinding incident between Ted and Ghandia probably put both of them out of the running for the possibility of returning. Although I would love to see Ghandia come back, so I hope I’m wrong about that. Robb might be the last ideal person from this season to come back, but I’m not sure if people would remember him that much compared to other big personalities from other seasons. Everyone else on the show was totally unmemorable.
the reason Brian is so great is that he did the minimal in terms of jury management to win. He disregarded half the jury and got the necessary votes to just barely win. He knew certain people would never vote Clay and worked those jurors. It only took one vote more to make him win. This lack of effort in such a flawless game is pure mastery of jury management.
This was an ugly season. It just had way too much negativity and anger among the contestants. There also wouldn't be an extremely terrible final two until Aras and Danielle of 'Panama: Exile Island'.
@@nintendogeek1999 What Aras did to Melinda Hyder in episode 2 was exactly like what Jamie Newton did during the merge episode of 'Guatemala' to the people on the bottom. Neither of them was showing any class. At least Jamie admitted that what he did was wrong and later got his comeuppance for it, but Aras never received his. Aras also never made any big moves and received nine votes cast against him prior to the final tribal council. That doesn't sound like a deserving winner to me.
The Ted and Ghandia situation was horrific and it tarnished the entire season for sure. But in addition to that, there was the whole racism towards Shi Ann, and lots of mysoginistic comments from Brian about how women should be in the kitchen and stuff like that. It's a dreadful season with a regretful winner and no redeeming qualities in my opinion.
