Survivor escapes killer New Mexico wildfire: It was 'absolute sheer terror'

From The AP:
Belinda Bukovitz was jolted into action by the sound of police outside her home shouting through a loudspeaker: “Go now, go now, go now!”
Realizing this was not like other wildfires that had threatened her mountain village before, she, her husband, son and two cats bundled into three separate cars and fled.
The smoke was at the end of the street when they tore out of the driveway. Panic set in as the usually sleepy two-lane streets of Ruidoso became gridlocked, with cars inching along bumper to bumper, sometimes taking as long as an hour to go a single mile. As they crept forward, smoke from one fire was ahead and smoke from another behind. Bukovitz had no idea where the flames were.
The South Fork and Salt fires that raged in south-central New Mexico this week prompted thousands of people like Bukovitz to flee for their lives and destroyed or damaged an estimated 1,400 structures - about half of them homes, according to Ruidoso Mayor Lynn Crawford.
Officials were still taking stock on Friday as firefighters took advantage of rain and cool temperatures to keep the blazes from growing, but large swaths of some neighborhoods were lost. At least two people died.
FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell and New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham were to tour the disaster area Saturday. A federal disaster declaration has cleared the way for more resources to help start recovery as crews continue to corral the flames.
Some residents smelled smoke when they woke up Monday and poured their first cup of coffee. They didn’t think much of it, assuming the source had to be far off. Some went to work, others walked their dogs.

arsonists do this because they're criminals and its what arsonists do. to stop it completely you'd have to close access to all forested and wilderness land, which kind of defeats the purpose of having them.

There have been fires all throughout history. I have an app on my phone that alerts me to fires. It's currently showing at least 50 fires in the western U.S. Fires happen. They always have. Are some of them man made? Undoubtedly. But even those are often accidental. I need evidence before I accept that a fire was intentionally set.

This “wall of fire” was also described during the Maui situation. Not a natural blaze.

The "un-natural" fire story is a century of fire suppression in the National Forests. Much of the forest land in the Western U.S. is an unhealthy, overgrown condition that is just looking for an ignition source. In New Mexico, a place whose forests I know very well, June is typically dry, except for dry thunderstorms that can put down a lot of lightning. In about 75% of wildfires in New Mexico and southern Colorado, lightning is the ignition source. "Climate change" is not the root cause of these fires--that century of fire suppression is the cause, but government land managers don't dare admit it, especially when the present Democrat regime's entire narrative is based on blaming everything on human-caused "climate change." I worked with some state foresters who warned for years about the tinder boxes that were and are being created by long-term fire suppression government policy. They don't dare say anything publicly about it now because they fear retribution, disciplinary action, or termination by the leftist-appointed bosses in both state and federal forest management agencies.

its quite natural in light of the severe drought conditions the region has experienced for years now. the land is dry, particularly now before the summer monsoon begins. the rain that has appeared is quite the surprise as it usually starts much later in June or into July.

@@rockymountainjazzfan1822 I disagree I argue that climate change is the root factor ...I'm 4th Generation Californian two towns down from Paradise Camp fire...The seasons gave changed ...it use to get bone cold in the winter time up till the 1980s Winter was much longer than now ....summer has broaden to the month before and almost two months on the latter ....winter is short short and so is spring....

My neighbors whose home burnt to the ground nearby me in a wild fire were saved by jumping into their pool and only coming up for air in spite of the smoke and flames all around them. The only thing left remaining of their home was the pool and the fireplace. They never found their cat. 😢
