Les and crew climb to 16,000 ft up dangerous Mt. Sinkara to join 80,000 indigenous Andeans as they make their yearly pilgrimage to the holy site of Qollorit’i. Les has been given special entrance with the Ukukus, the Spiritual Warriors of the Inka Tradition, and will be joining the Warriors on their quest to reach the glacial summit surpassing base camp to reach an astounding 17,000 ft. Here Les will be the first Westerner and only person in history to film the ancient Inka rituals performed by over 200 Ukuku Warriors on the edge of the glacial sheet.
Les and the Ukukus, masked in costume and armed with long, leather whips, must survive on the glacial edge for the night. If they succeed, they earn the right to break a piece of the glacial from the mountain’s edge and return to base camp carrying this frozen holy water on their backs. Dispensing this water to their communities, the Ukukus pay homage to the Spirit of the Mountain of Sinkara and appease the great spirits to live another year, so they may return to the holy mountain and pilgrimage again. This honouring of nature is central to their concept of survival.
With award winning, never before seen ceremonial and survival footage, Les Stroud crafted this stunningly beautiful and compelling series about connecting to the earth through survival and ancient ceremonies with indigenous cultures around the planet.

It was crazy to discover how that culture had become impure and it's good that you exposed that. It's rare to come by many true "spiritual warriors." Great series thanks for sharing on youtube.

Catholicism is based on evil, roman Catholics hijacked the teachings of jesus, do some serious research, jesus literally called the roman fake jews that killed him a den of vipers and human feces is apart of alot of satanic bs! Satanism is there on that mountain because they need to destroy the truth🤨 Most all are ignorant of the tricks of evil, I am not! I took a bullet to the heart and died and came back, I could see the mockery as you could Les!

Sorry, but what culture isn't "impure" ? Everything is influencing everything. Culture is not something static, it's ever changing. Your culture isn't the same as it was 150 years ago. The Incan culture isn't the same as it was 500 years ago. Some old traditions go, other new traditions come. It never was any different in human history. Also define "true" spiritual warrior... i bet it's quite a subjective definition. It's the same with shamans i think...there are all sorts of pseudo-shamans with their drum circles and so on, and there are proper shamans living old traditions & connected to nature. Both call themselves shamans though, good luck finding the "right" one.

Wow, what an amazing journey. How do you even begin to go about setting something like this up. The logistics seem mind boggling. Decide on a place to visit, find a tribe willing to accept a stranger, agree to guide said stranger 90 miles through the mountains. During the trek they will preform ceremonies bringing him into their group, their family. Once the stranger completes the journey he is then...one of us. Then there’s myself, not being able to figure out what grocery store to go shop at tomorrow.😳 Amazing as always Mr. Stroud! I

Another great episode Les! Also so evident that the old ways are disappearing all over the globe. Sad to see when it’s own people are partially to blame. Thankfully you are getting to experience and capture a lot of this before it’s gone forever. So many miss the importance of tradition, and keeping the old ways respected.

Les, the best way to handle the thin air at higher altitudes is to be conscious of your breathing. Always making sure to take in big full breaths, and exhaling less air than you take in per breath. This will alkalize the blood, increasing the body's ability to carry oxygen. The technique takes a bit of practice but it does work. It's a very healing technique even at sea level when done properly. Just something to think about.

It saddens me to see the slow disappearance of the old ways here. The connection to mother Earth seems tainted and something that was once a spiritual awakening for those who journey has been soiled by a sort of commercialized catholicism. A shortcut to bypass a pilgrimage that started centuries ago to honor, respect, and become one with our earth. Les, forever hold what you experienced in your heart and soul, for your journey, the emotions you felt, the sights you saw here was what these ancients intended. Not many will experience this.

@@cleef4196 Yeah? Okay...sweep that factual history under the carpet along with all the Catholic priests who buggered young boys. Organized religion is a cancer that starts wars, foments hate, demonizes anyone who is different than "us", and has been responsible for massive bloodshed and death over the centuries. People can have a relationship with a higher power outside the confines of the church. Why anyone would subjugate themselves to a priest and a book is beyond me. That's for....followers. That's for sheep who can't grasp freedom of thought. Keep following, my man. And keep sweeping the atrocities of the Catholic church under the rug. PS: I'm curious: how does a priest raping a 7 year old boy fit into the whole, you know, his "relationship with god" thing?
@cleef4196
@cleef4196 3 года назад
@@misterslats @misterslats You don't understand what Im saying. You are looking at the evils of man and using that as an image of the Church itself. Obviously the Church condemns child molesting priests, and of course it condemns the atrocities and violence committed in the name of Catholicism. What you got to understand is that the Church is doctrine true to scripture, and this doctrine governs us Catholics, not an oligarchy of selfish individuals or power hungry dictators who make greedy descions. Their have obviously been bad people associated with the Church, its human nature, and im not denying that, their actions are inexcusable, but you have to remember that man and the Church are seperated, because again, all the Catholic Church is is doctrine. You may say that these doctrines that govern us Catholics was created by selfish, old men, only to benefit their need, but you would be wrong because doctrine is debated and decided between devout theologians who've studied the scripture their entire lives, and interpret doctrine solely on passages of scripture with historical biblical context, so it always stays as true as possible to the words of God. Then again, you could argue that the bible itself is inherently evil which is a whole different argument that Im willing to debate if you bring it up. But, not to get off course, to help you out, everything the Church is and stands for can be found in the Catechism. The Catechism has beleifs/doctrines of the Church, and if you were to read it, you will find that everything in there is connected to specific scripture and context as to not be corrupted by the sinful nature of man, and you will also find that it condemns the evils you've mentioned previously, because obviously killing millions and waging pointless wars go against scripture. All that I ask, if you respond, is that you read the doctrine of the Church, what it says. If you try to point out evil, you'll find in every evil act you may mention is sinful by definition of the Church, and that would save a hell of a lot of arguing. I believe you focus on what others say the Church is but neglect to see the other side, which is why I asked you to read the Catechism. It's like believing the Earth is flat, with all the evidence saying you're blatantly wrong being put right in front of you, but not caring to look at the evidence out of ignorance. You also focus on the few bad things that have come from the religion, and refuse to acknowledge the overwhelming good that has been brought by the Church and its people. And just to reiterate, do not confuse the actions of evil men that have used the Church as a base with the Church itself, because the said evil men contradict the Churches teachings/doctrines. All I ask is for you to dive deeper and be open minded, look at the other side of things and maybe you'll see your perspective was wrong all along. Billions of people, from generations to generations have converted and followed Catholicism until death, and there is a reason for that.

If you study the history of how the Spanish systematically worked to eradicate the andean spiritual ways, then it's not hard to understand why the ritual has taken on this aspect. Its admirable and incredible that there is still so much trace of the old ways as there is. And earth based religions sometimes have to adapt to new climatic conditions but that doesn't mean that the original meaning is lost. Cutting the ice itself is not the whole point, its the deeper significance, intention and symbolism of it. I agree that Christianity has altered much of the andean ways, thats lamentablemente but a fact. I would like to see the people remove the christian aspects but thats for the bearers of the andean ways to decide.
