When I started this podcast, my #1 dream guest was Susan Cain. So, I'm very happy to bring this episode to you today.
Susan's 2012 book, "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" was my first introduction to introversion. The book changed my life (and thousands of others worldwide) because it changed how I saw myself.
It was through learning about introversion that I learned about high sensitivity; I wouldn't be typing this to you today without her book as the inception.
Susan is the co-founder of Quiet Revolution and the author of the bestsellers "Quiet Power: The Secret Strengths of Introverts", and "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in A World That Can’t Stop Talking", which has been translated into 40 languages and been on the New York Times bestseller list for over four years. Her record-smashing TED talk has been viewed over 15 million times. She is an honors graduate of Princeton and Harvard Law School.
Some of the topics covered in this episode include:
- What it was like to be a Wall Street lawyer and an introvert
- If she's an HSP
- The difference between HSP and introversion
- Open place workspaces
- How Susan dealt with the huge popularity of her book and TED talk
- The introvert backlash
....and more.

I'm reading her book right now and it makes me feel proud of myself, and not so out of place in the busy world. It seems I've become bitter about all things and all people, and was beginning to hate myself for it. But her book helped me see that my cynicism was rooted in a feeling that I and my personality type were just not being respected or understood. So it's an incredibly empowering and supportive read, as is your work. Thank you!

Can anyone help me out by giving me a reference to Episode 1 of the Highly Sensitive Person Podcast (so I can watch them all in some kind of order). The irony isn't lost on me, that I seek the overall order of the podcasts, but whoever made them hasn't gone to this level of detail to make it easy...) Cheers!!

your podcast is amazing. but i have just one sugestion, you could show your face while you talk, i get uneasy by just staring at the screan and sometimes it gets difficult to keep focus on the content, besides that it's all fine.

Thanks for your comment! RU-vid can be a vicious place so I prefer not to show my face...I don't feel like hearing comments about how I look! I'm sorry the static image is boring--you can also listen as a podcast on iTunes or my blog at highlysensitiveperson.net and do other things while you are listening. :) I like to cook while listening to podcasts!

Rodrigo, Have you tried lying down with eyes closed and listening? That may not always be possible, but it's a great way to take in these talks and get away from the screen.

Rodrigo Godoy I feel the same about videos that just have a still screen. But I find doing something with your hands, like doodling or for myself I may do a word find or paint.
