honestly, will the "pride" end once the proud people are treated fairly/equally? in a future where all is fair, will the "pride" definition stay the same, or will it change so it always includes the same demographics (even though they'll all be treated fairly in this hypothetical future)? i think it's about wanting to celebrate a cultural group that didn't exist as a group a hundred years ago. so they don't have (many) celebratory traditions. so a parade/march/demonstration evolved into celebrating their new culture since it was already their group tradition. i hope humanity can let these stupid identity purity checks go. "you're not part of X group, you can't be PROUD! the word has existed for centuries, but I'm gonna add my own subtext to the word that allows me to discriminate against the 'bad' people"

the answer to "where's my parade?" should just be: "organize one. that group wanted a parade so they did all the paperwork & arranged for it to happen." you don't need to make it about "who has suffered" or "who's worthy of a parade"

@@PyrokineticFire1 i know its an old comment and yeah i agree with this answer to "where is my parade?" Than what Price said"you dont *deserve* one" , (key word deserve). I feel like a more apropiate word to use would be *need* instead of deserve, since, yeah, we dont really need one(at least I dont), but its not like we shouldnt have the right to do one if someone wanted to. It came off as too passive-aggresive(idk if thats really the word) for me, like "you dont deserve to be happy because you've always BEEN happy" when in reality everyone should be free to be happy and celebrate who they are!(lgbt folks more since theyve gone through a lot of hardship) Rant over(pls dont kill me i still agree with most of what he said)

Yah, I'm so glad that wasn't cut out, pride has kind of lost it's original meaning of being a protest against hate and discrimination, now it's sort of a month when there's lots of parties and companies flailing the rainbow flag around

caezar yeah, definitely, also in my city/country we're facing the same thing despite all the harm that is still being perpetrated against us all LGBTQ+ people. And that's the main reason why I don't participate in any Pride festivities (other than still being closeted from my family), because I don't like that Pride now is all about trashy partying instead of politics. Despite that, i'm still very happy that pride month is a thing and to be able to wish a "happy pride" to all my queer friends All that being said, happy Pride to you, stay proud ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽

The rant annoyed me, personally. What it was matters less than what it is now. I also don't believe that you can reach equality by treating people differently. That, itself, should be self-evident, imo, but that's not what people, like Stumpt, apparently, advocate for. Society seems to bastardize everything it touches once it becomes 'acceptable' or 'mainstream.' Saying the 11 other months are straight pride months is a ridiculous notion. If that were true, where are the festivals, parades, filters, etc.? Why is there a backlash against the people wanting to celebrate their straight pride? Are you telling me it will be accepted after the month ends (since it'll be one of the other 11 months)? We all know that's not true. Whether there are the same political undercurrents impacting cis gender people now vs how people were treated during the initial creation of Pride can be debated and, though I don't believe they are comparable, the ways in which both groups are treated by vocal minorities is extremely toxic, but it's also a whole different world and Pride isn't what it used to be. I mean, let's be honest, the discourse has gotten toxic where people on both sides are now being shamed and silenced based on their identities and orientations (yay, equality?), and it has gotten ridiculous because the majority of people don't care (but are still dragged by both sides; though in my experience the dragging occurs more by one side because trying to being the middle man and bring the sides together now means you're the enemy, apparently). People keep having knee-jerk reactions and no one wants to be intellectually honest. It's just constant seeking of confirmation bias and treating anyone with slightly opposing views like an enemy, instead of trying to sit down, talk with, and understand them. People don't have to agree with each others opposing viewpoints, but understanding where each side is coming from can help build relations, especially when we refrain from labeling and othering people. You can't make everyone like something, but most people can tolerate most things and it's about finding that acceptance and that voice for all, not just one group, regardless of who that group was, is, or why they began (with exceptions for groups who intentionally commit to harming others, but even they should have a voice so perhaps the violence can be reduced through the discussion of ideals and desires. IMO the intentional act of violence by one group against another with superficial reasoning or reference to an act that occurred a signficant period of time ago is without merit or cause and should be condemned, and even other acts of violence as well, but nuance and the need for details comes into play (such as would-be murderer vs would-be victim)). People need to grow up, sit down, and listen (to each other).
