As a boy in the late 50's I listened to these shows on the radio every night as I fell asleep. Years later I was able to tape them on to my cassette recorder so I could travel with them. Now I have every show I could ask for is on my phone. Thank you Old Time Radio.
I was wondering. Do you remember a show where different actors and actresses, every episode would say "Oh what a tangled web we weave , when first we practice to deceive"? Does it sound familiar?
I didn't grow up listening to old radio shows, but my mother and grandmother did! I got turned onto it through Siriusxm Radio Classics. And I've been hooked every since. Thank you so much!
I purchased a set of these also, although mine were on a cassette disk. I think I paid fifteen dollars back in the 80s. I still have the set. A nice wooden box that resembles a tiny crate and the paper covering it was similar to the movie bills that were in use. I think there were five tapes. I'll have to check when I get back home. I could listen to them over and over, especially when I needed some time to just build a World in my mind. These shows are so wonderful to imagine with. It seems a shame that more people don't realize how well the radio works with the imagination.
Once you get used to the story being described rather than seen , radio shows can become quite addictive. The Third Man, Gunsmoke, Tales of The Texas Rangers, Richard Diamond, X Minus 1, Lights Out, The Shadow, great stuff and I'm finding more great programs every day.
I'm always looking for new series to cover and you've just listed a handful right here. I'll get working on bringing these out in podcast form. If you want to get notified when I release them please sign up for my email list at otrpodcasts.com. Thanks for listening!
I really like Dragnet and Yours Truly Johnny Dollar as well as the Texas Rangers. As a kid I used to think radio shows would be so boring and that I'd rather watch TV but now I listen to these and my imagination just fills in the visual information.
I like Broadway Is My Beat, have you listened to that one? Quite poetic and addictive characters, Good writing too IMHO. Pat Novac For Hire is good too, Jack Webb in a show other than Dragnet! For comedy you can't beat Jack Benny lol Some tips for ya! 😀
I have been listening to these Suspense shows for about 4 years, I love how the sound effects are so creative. I truly use these stories to get through a work day. i try to tell people about the channel that I know can appreciate the stories, without foul language and real acting. My favorite are the Johnny Dollar detective stories.
I loved listening to stories on the radio! In California, I think there was a station that still played these old shows up until the 80’s. When they finally stopped airing them, I just about died. I’m not a big tv watcher, never have been. But these radio suspense theater shows were my Saturday night favorites. I would get my wine and turn down the lights and enjoy these wonderful shows every week. I did not know that RU-vid had these. Or I would have been here the very first day they were posted. In any case, I’m here now and I’m so grateful and so happy and so staying. Thank you RU-vid, you rock!! ✝️🙏🏼❤️
The first time I remember hearing an old time radio show was what my Dad bought an LP around 1974 (I was 10) Inner Sanctum. Then I discovered a local radio station WEBR that played the Shadow. Now I’m an avid collector of Old Time Radio. Now I have nearly 100,000 shows from around the world. It’s amazing how simple life was then. I love those good old days of when radio was king.
My dad had brought in my grandfather's collection of radio shows when I was 8. The first time I listened to one was a Suspense tape on my way to school. It's probably one of the best memories I have.
I agree with the previous messages of thanks. Thank you to whomever took the time to put these online! You have no idea how happy you have made so many people! Thank you again! 😁
I was recently let go from here because of the irresponsible and immature actions of my son using my account but the RU-vid team saw fit to allow me to use the account and continue on enjoying all of this fine entertainment and chatting with all of you good people. I so enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions on this stuff, and getting good advice and suggestions from you guys. I am grateful for understanding people. Thank you team
Oh man, when i was a kid my granddad had a huge collection of records with all these old shows on them. I used to sit in the kitchen on the floor and listen to X minus One, Dimension X, and such.
I love everyone how listens to these or likes them or at least noes them.a lot of people don’t. And I wish everyone knew about them. This channel is the best and I can’t say how much I love it thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😍😍😍😍😃😎😎😆😆😆😆
there was a small town radio station on vancouver island that in the mid 2000's to the 2010's, they weren't really official, and when the dj's were gone, right at 12am they'd play old timey radio shows till like 4 am. what a time to be a be a teen with a phone with a built in radio app or am/fm clock.
The first Old Radio show was Sorry Wrong Number, with Agnes Moorehead. Both my dad and I got caught up in the story and jump out of our skin when my mom got back in the car. I was about five and got hooked then and there. Thank you for sharing these great drama's. Please keep them coming.
I only came across this genre of radio show and all the others Whistler X-Minus 1 Dragnet Johnny Dollar and lots I've probably missed but I'm so lucky that I did stumble onto these as they've enriched my imagination so very very much!!! To all u guys n girls who upload these I owe u a huge debt of gratitude so I tip my proverbial cap!!!
Wowww this is so cool. Its awesome to listen to something like 50 years before I was born. So people used to sit in the living room or something? And just listen? I'm gonna listen to all of these thank you
Thank You so much, Uploader, for your time and effort putting these onto YT. Especially the 910 episode playlist that I can put into my library............to listen to for years. Again, THANK YOU!!! :)

Air Date:06.17.1942 ( June 17, 1942) Plot:+ "The Burning Court". A story of poisoning with supernatural overtones. One of the guests at a dinner party is a murderer...which one? The first show of the series. The series was based on a "Forecast" broadcast called "Suspense" that was aired July 22, 1940. The story was produced on "Suspense" again on June 14, 1945 www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/thriller/suspense/the-burning-court-1942-06-17
The score was by the fabulous Bernard Herrmann. I should have expected that he did radio as well as film. An interesting topic might be radio plays that were scored by him.
How were the writers able to tell a story without using the word, "fuck?" Can anyone explain this to me? All contemporary writers know this word is essential to professional dramatic literature. How did they manage in the old days without the most essential word of all? I'm still just in awe.
I would love a little slideshow after the play to shownthe actors being described, obviously I'll continue to watch and realize this is late lol but nevertheless it'd be neat..off to google brb
Yes this is the very first episode and subscribe to other generous people who have all the episodes there for ur delight!!! Plus it'll (most of the time?) tell u the number of each episode and the day they aired!!! Hope this helps.
I cannot hear any of the shows I am trying to listen to - my volume is turned up and I am not on mute -does anyone have any suggestions - what I can do so I can actually hear the shows??? THANKS!!!
Greetings Folks, For years I’ve been trying to find the story about a man planning to kill his wife in a sewer and to his surprise while in the sewer something very scary happened. (No spoiler here.) It was probably on Suspense or Inner Sanctum. I don’t know the name of the story. Can anyone help? Thank you ♥️
