A refrence video on how to lift the suspension on a ZJ model Grand Cherokee. The Jeep in the Video is 1997 5.2L ZJ 1999-'04 Jeep WJ lift installation: • JEEP WJ SUSPENSION LIF...
Good sir. I just got a '96 Grand Cherokee on the cheap and it's messed up from the floor up. The videos you've put up have saved me hundreds going tot he mechanic. This series is gold to all ZJ owners.
Gotta love being able to watch a tutorial video in under 10 mins and actually learn something from it. There’s a lot of good videos out there don’t get me wrong, but I don’t have time to sit and watch a 45 min video and still have to try to refer back to it to retain the info. Great video man definitely subscribing!
Great video...have NEVER done anything like this. Quick, informative, no unnecessary talking. Just subscribed. This is EXACTLY the kind of video that makes youtube a great tool.
Your videos are rock solid tutorials, respect! Zj owners gotta stick together, thanks for all the tutorials man, hope your zj keeps running into oblivion, just subscribed not sure why it took me so long
I'm on my 3rd '90s ZJ and last two went well over 300,000 before costing too much to not make sense anymore. Love older rigs, value is way better..and hey have a few if you want, instead of some $70k truck you're afraid of gettin dirty.
I cannot tell you how much this helped me do my OME HD spring lift! Thank you for taking the time and effort to vid, edit and post this. All too often on RU-vid, people ramble on and on, turning 2 minutes of actual information into a 15 min video. Your videos are just the right length, edited perfectly. You get to the point quickly, information and vid cuts are just right, not too much, not to little. Cool background/bumper music too. Uda man!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Clear step by step instructions in a real world setting. Your video has given me confidence to do this in my driveway.
I really enjoy your videos because your don't speed through the installation process so I can share your videos during quality time with my daughter. Your videos are long enough for her to be able to process the information as a new mechanic and ask leading questions but are fast enough to keep her interest so she doesn't get board. My daughter is the introvert type as featured in one of your other videos except her dragon is named Rika AKA the fluffy snot owl. My daughter likes your videos because you don't sound like an arrogant Jerk! Except she used a different word. Your videos are a key component to her learning, enhances our bonding and are invaluable for work. With all my heart, Thank you!!
Dude, once again I'm amazed by your videos. I bought my spacer lift for my ZJ over a year ago and have been hesitating to do it since I've never done a lift before. Should have looked for this video sooner. Can't wait to get started!
Hey thanx so much man!!! I love your videos & u do such a great job of explaining the process that even i can follow along, LOL. Keep up the good work !!!!!✌✌✌✌
Note: The rubber spring isolator should be reinstalled AFTER the plastic or aluminum puck (whatever the size). In this video it is installed backward and will cause spring to be noisy and chatter more when offroad) I have watched several ZJ suspension lift and steering upgrade videos from different content creators on RU-vid. This one is shortest and best. With tool size references and with specific, to the point, just the facts type "get it done" commentary.Thank you BG
Love to watch your videos. I always learn something. You did not say what size boot to wear to kick out those parts. Lol. Have the proper tools and almost half of the job is done.
I WAS THERE! When the first time a leveling kit was added to a Jeep for bigger tires. And coil springs in the back enstead of leafsprings? That had to be a Grand Cherokee. No respectable Cherokee XJ would have had coil springs in the rear. Another hole to stick something in or what? Buy an XJ if you can handle it! Lol! I love all the work you have done under that Jeep, and I know it wasn't your first time! I recognized all the parts on Jeeps I have replaced. Hope things are good, and don't let people make you emotional! Just do what you do!
I did the same puck lift, but put my rear springs in the front and front springs in the rear, I didn’t upgrade shocks, but used the track bar drop kit, ran factory rims with 30s with out death wobble, currently I have 2003 17” Jeep wheels on 31s and get death wobble at 45mph. Replace your axle joints and tie rod joints, upgrade steering dampener too
Good video and a good knowledge of the parts the only thing is I would install the springs on the front of the Jeep and the poly bushing kits on the rear of the Jeep because you get all of your ride quality from the rear and I wouldn't want to sacrifice ride quality so you good even take half of a coil off of the bottom of the new coils you had sitting in the closet so that they match the poly bushing kit perfectly and the Jeeps it's perfectly level or you could do some Jerry rig stuff to make the rear a tiny but higher (stiffer taller shocks, bad ass bump stops, etc, but always remember ride quality ride quality ride quality! All of your ride quality comes from the rear of the vehicle suspension!). But other than that one little personal choice of mine that I would have swapped I think this was a damn good tutorial video to show you guys how to do bushing lift kit or a spring lift kit
Hey BG, love your content - I've probably followed 3 or 4 of your tutorials (tie rods, front and rear brakes) and plan to do 4 more next week (this lift, motor mounts, control arms, drag link, and possibly steering gear), and I've never had an issue due to the fantastic quality of your videos. I do have two questions though: 1. At around 2:56 you talk about replacing a little cup looking thing in the future; do you happen to know what it's called and have you replaced it in another video? 2. Do you plan on doing a video about fixing the AC on ZJ's in the future? Mine blows hot in the winter but not all that cold in the summer Keep these videos coming! I wish you all the best. If you plan on releasing merch with some of your catchphrases "installation is reverse of removal" or "we got no problems, only solutions" let me know..
I was talking about the bump stops but I still havent gotten around to it and i dont plan on making any AC videos any time soon but thanks for the continued support
Love the video. I do have just one question about the part where you re-installed the track bar. I noticed the steering wheel had about a quarter of a turn to it, in order for the track bar to re-align. So I guess my question is..are we all going to be that far from center alignment, after installing a budget lift such as this one?
Greetz from the Netherlands! Love your video’s, they are my guide to maintaining my 1997 GC! If I lift the suspention 2”, anything else I need to consider? Heard about maybe changing the steering stabiliser to a double? And lowering the transfercase? Ciao Hak
Love your videos. Have the same truck and my son and I have used you as a reference countless times. Does the truck need an alignment after the spring change?
Great video man I noticed you got new shocks are they taller? I just put new coil springs in my 2002 grand Cherokee with the 2 inch budget boost do I need taller shocks ?
Hey BG, Did you put longer shocks on or just change them out because they were old ? Nice vid. YOU DID MAKE IT LOOK EASY BUT AS US JEEP GUYS KNOW, IT'S USUALLY NOT THE CASE.
OldsVistaCruiser no, I did that being goofy. The rear end is the easiest part and folowing the steps for the front will make that go a little easy as well. this job including the time it took to constantly keep setting up the camera in different positions took around 4 hours. my first time doing this on my jeep I spent 4 hours trying to remove just one of the front springs and another hour trying to figure out how to remove the driver side shock absorber. that was a crazy day
If you moved the stock factory Frank Springs to the rear karma you could have put the 2 inch extended Springs in the front and it would give you a level left without the 2 inch spacers of front
Hey that's not fair!!! I had to cut both front shocks off of my 2003 Wrangler, top bolts were seized and the shaft spun. But the rear were the most fun, had to lift the body off the frame to cut out the nuts that were welded on....ugh! The springs will get done when the weather breaks. Question. How difficult is it to line up the rear track bar? I saw your video on it. My lift kit came with a relocation bracket, but I'd rather get an adjustable one. Loved your liberal use of the boot to get it done! 👍🏻
Hi! Sorry to ask this as I am beginner, could you please let us know a list of required materials to make it happen? And a web-link to see them all can help us too. Thanks in advance for your help.
No disrespect meant but if you compress the springs its easier to pull the springs and reinstall them done a few of these also if you disconnect the sway bar kink in the front it gives ya lots of space plus a bottle jack on the frame helps pressure it down
Anything I need besides extended shocks and transfer case drop down spacers in order to get it aligned properly after installing a 3 in lift like this ?. Like will there be any binding I need to address with longer modified parts?. I have a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 straight 6...... also the transmission whines up and down when it shifts, especially at low speeds its louder, I have a 4x4. .. I changed the transmission fluid and filter and there was lots of black sludge from metal.. it probably hadn't been changed. I just bought the jeep. I already did lots of stuff around the engine. Just stuck on this transmission till I do the suspension. Any info on what parts to replace or upgrade on the transmission appriciated. Like torque converter replacement?. Some of the parts behind the pan like I saw in your other video,?. I'm getting under it to identify the transmission now. Not exactly sure what transmission it is at this point.
Im not the guy to offer you expert advice with tranny issue but this is a 2 inch lift and you wont need a transfer case drop. All you will need is longer shocks and a rear adjustable track bar so the axle is center under the jeep
On the front the rubber coil idolaters should be removed and reinstalled after the the spacer is installed. If you have the "death wobble" replace steering stabilizer
Hello i have a 93 zj and i put a 3.5 inch trailmaster lift it gave me fixed lower control arms and no uppers i recently bought ftont and rear adjustable uppers but not sure what to adjust them to thanks for any info
I just eyeballed mine until the axle looked straight but you can measure from the chassis to the outside edge of the tire. This might help Rear track bar ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L7zDS7UZkKs.html Front track bar ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aTlUyhKMTOA.html
Yes its level and heres how the Jeep looks now: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-76h9_aB7dOg.html Heres the link to the parts: www.ebay.com/itm/2-Inch-Complete-Lift-Kit-with-Shocks-2WD-4WD-For-93-98-Jeep-Grand-Cherokee-ZJ-/130671782753 ...im letting you know now that these shock absorbers suck and you can hear the fluid inside compress when you go over bumps which is annoying so I went with some Pro Comp ES900: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yO8z6cC7wjg.html
Hello, the video is very good. I want to ask a question. Why have you changed the rear spirals? Thank you! (I have ordered the 2 "supplements to be placed and the suspension was very hard, especially the rear. It hits a lot.)
Good video my friend. Question? Can I do on my TOYOTA 4runner ,99...? Thanks again.....I hope I can do on my truck...... About the shocks? Should be much more biger? Thanks.
What did you do to realign the axles? Those track bars pull the front axle to the driver's side and the rear one pulls it to the passenger side. It makes them look like they're dog tracking down the road.
www.ebay.com/itm/2-Kit-w-Shocks-Transfer-Case-Drop-PRO-For-93-98-JEEP-Grand-Cherokee-ZJ-4x4-/130671782773 I used the 2 inch BDS lift springs in the back that was left over from when I lifted my '96 and the shocks that come with the kit are loud and suck so I replaced those with the pro comp es9000 shocks
Hers my shock replacement video. 45 seconds in I cover how I did the front passenger side ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yO8z6cC7wjg.html
