Thanks Kenny, great video. My KLR is new and the main tri-link shaft was difficult to remove because it wasn't properly lubed by Kawasaki and was already corroded. I'm so glad I lubed all the bearings, sleeves, and bolts. Additionally, when reinstalling the plastic caps, orientate them so the "deep slot" is located at 6:00 to allow water to drain out.

Very helpful tutorial - wish my pivot bolt came out that easy. Rust had it welded on.

great video. I like to always use a small brush and brush on some grease to the inside of the bearings also and then grease the pivot bushing.

Oh I wish I would have done this sooner. My pivot bolt does not want to come out. Been banging away at that sucker for almost an hour. I'm sure I will not wait that long again to do this.

Nicely done, but you forgot the main bearing on the pivot. You took the bolt out, cleaned it and forgot to lube the corresponding bearing. One has to loosen the rear motor mount first, and when reinstalling the pivot arm, it helps to spread the frame a wee bit. I used a ratchet strap on one side of my frame , near the footpeg, and a comealong to the other side. Both were attached to beams on the side of my carport. The knuckle then slipped in like butter. Be careful though, as you only need a slight pull. Once reinstalled, don't forget to retighten the motor mount.

There is a bolt just above the main pivot you're talking about. It has a 14mm nut on the right side (foot brake side) that when loosened allows you to easily spread the frame enough by hand to allow for easier swing arm mounting. This bolt holds the frame to the rear part of the motor, so leave the bolt in, just loosen the nut a few turns.

He also neglected the upper shock pivot.

Hey Kenny I don't see the need to remove the rear wheel and swingwarm and all that jaz. I was able to leave it assembled and still remove all bolts/sleeves and clean and lube them. They were bone dry on my '12 with 5k miles. 15 minutes well spent!

?how do you lube the swingarm bearings then? :/ Tho main purpose is to lube the needle bearings. Remove, check and grease the pivot bolts is a side effect.

I've always wondered, what is that tube and plastic bottle that's hanging down there on the right?? 5:14
@kennyraceboy
@kennyraceboy 8 лет назад
+Shaine MacDonald the tube with the plastic bottle runs from the air intake box, your air filter is soaked in oil and it can sometimes drip oil, the oil from the filter drains down the tube and collects in the bottle, so you can dispose of it later rather than just having it leak into the road. Hope this solves the mystery! Thanks for watching!
