We had this 2017 Hyundai Creta visit one of our MotoFyx car repair workshop for an annual service along with a concern relating to the suspension system of the car. The owner had difficulty while driving across uneven road surfaces, as there was heavy noise being observed from the suspension along with severe instability while driving. Seeking a permanent solution towards the concern being faced, the car owner reached out to us for assistance.
Upon a detailed inspection of the car by our expert technicians, the clunking noise was observed from the front side of the car, indicating a weak suspension. Upon dismantling the wheels and on further diagnosis it was observed that both the front and rear shock absorbers had become weak offering no rebounding effect, the front shock absorber mountings were also in a bad shape, with major cuts being observed across the entire mounting surface. The lower arms bushes had also worn out overtime and were in need of immediate replacement, in order to completely restore the car’s driving comfort. There was heavy play observed in the steering rack assembly, however the rack did not require replacement since the rack play could be arrested by means of repairing the rack assembly.
*Function of the entire suspension system in a car:
- Car suspension is the system of tyres, springs, shock absorbers and linkages which connect a car to its wheels and allows relative motion between the two
- Suspension systems must support both road holding/handling & ride quality, which are at odds with each other
*Symptoms of a bad suspension system:
- Continued bouncing after hitting a bump
- Drifting / Pulling to one side
- One side of the car sits lower than the other
- Difficulty in steering
- Bumpy rides with clunking noise
- Uneven tyre wear
*Solution:
- The front and rear shock absorbers, kit and mounting were all replaced with new Hyundai Genuine parts
- The worn out lower arm bushes were replaced with new bushes, which were press fitted onto the lower control arm frame
- There was also a play observed from the Link rods, which were also replaced with new Hyundai Genuine link rods
- Steering rack assembly was repaired
- Annual service along with Wheel alignment was performed
