Maayke, who has set up the biggest Dutch youth coalition for the UNFCCC, showed the audience the importance of establishing a circular-economy and using the earth’s precious materials in a more sustainable way.
She strives to make the world a place where raw materials in the society are used in a sustainable way: Maayke Damen developed a system to use raw materials in a more intelligent and fair way. She promotes a circular economic model, where she focuses on production methods, origins, quality and reuse methods. Maayka has been engaged in many important decision making processes, together with youth and youth organisations in The Netherlands she has set up the biggest Dutch youth coalition ever for the UNFCCC conference!

Hey Maayke, Your talk is amazing. Its a reality that we all buy new stuff instead of getting old one repaired. In India, few people are taking the initiative to open repair cafes. Personally, I am currently sustaining my TV till the time I can get it repaired continuously. I even get other electronic stuff repaired, instead of buying new.

Very nice Talk, I really appreciates you guys finally realized the importance of the natural resources, here in our country we are already in to circular economy and circulating. We are reusing, repairing several times, recovering materials and recycling waste products. And we are struggling to make it 100%.

It worked perfectly in USSR (after WWI in almost completely ruined country we just didn't have other options) then in 1991 we've got capitalism and ta-da!!! Profit became the key word. No manufacturer is interested in the consumer who uses one coffee machine, one washing machine or one TV-set for decades. They need you to buy new things as often as possible. Hey, marketing and PR were invented to make you buy more )) What you say is really nice to hear, but it won't ever be a common concept again. Well, it might... After the WWIII or some other sort of apocalypse.

How did she get from making a coffee maker repairable to a resources passport? Think of all the waste of paper the red tape will generate.

What a WASTE of time watching this TED talk. Talking about your personal experience finding out planned obsolescence exists isn’t anything new. It’s like talking about corruption on government today like it’s a novelty.

We all care about environment, but I really don’t see the use of your invention. I believe recycling is a big profitable industry. There are lots of smarter ways to recycle things. Can’t imagine how silly EU is now, if it is about sustainability and environment, even the idea like this get approved... Great intentions don’t make automatically a great solution.
