great idea on the fence panel on top of the shade cloth...never thought of that! We have terrible winds here too & that's kept me from making the cattle panel hoop house...but great idea thanks for sharing.
You are most welcome. The shade cloth has been on for over two months with some pretty nasty thunderstorms and associated winds and we have had no issues.
It looks fine to me. It does not have to be perfect. Farming whether it is a small piece of land or large it is still the best choice in my opinion. You have done a great job!!!!!
@@joannemcmillan9201 Thank you. I'm sure that would work. I also found some UV resistant markers specifically for plants. I'm doing trial runs on those and will be doing a product review with the outcome of my experiments in a few months.
Your deer fence looks around 3-4 feet high, does that actually keep deer out for you? Here in NS, Canada, anything under 9 feet and the deer casually hop over it. Is there some other trick you use to repel the deer?
In my experience in the mid-Atlantic area (smaller deer than you I believe), I use 3', 4', and 6' fencing to wrap the trees. All of them will prevent the males from rubbing. I use the shorter fence either to keep deer out all together on shorter plants or to prevent bucks from rubbing (taller plants). For plants that deer deer love (most fruit trees) I have to use the taller fence because the will eat the branches back or below the rim of the fence.
@@greatescapefarms thanks for the reply, I thought maybe there was a solution I was unaware of. The deer here eat everything including potato plants if they’re not fenced in. I suspect I need to invite some hunters over or attract more coyotes.
