Suunto really?! Wake up, its 2022 not a stone age! Your best watches as you say but with old TFT matrix display? Huge edges on sides without use? It looks ridiculous! I was waiting for PRO version, want to support Finland company which makes watches at Finland not China! Please make PRO 2 with big OLED display asap. Thank You
I have not had that experience with it as battery lasts as long as Suunto has stated. I think you should contact Suunto as those numbers you see are totally wrong.
I have been flip-flopping between the Suunto 9 Peak Pro and Garmin Fenix 7S SS. Design-wise, I absolutely love Suunto and I think it is the undisputed winner. It also seems to me like it communicates better with your phone than the Fenix. Custom battery mode is also such an awesome feature, could be even better if fluffed out a bit more as you highlighted. I just... I just don't understand why that huge bezel around the watch screen? Would a photovoltaic cell really not fit in there? It's effectively reducing the screen size for no discernible reason. It makes me doubt the actual battery time, especially if backlight is needed. I really want to support Suunto, but I just need 1-2 more reasons to spend my money on them, and for me, if this watch was also solar powered, it would've absolutely won me over! What's your advice for a smartwatch to invest in?
@@McStoolio erm... Thanks for taking the time to write an insightful reply, I guess. Luckily there were people out there more open for a conversation, and I ended up with the fēnix.
I have the same feelings about it... I have found myself in between FR955 and S9PP and cant really decide. These huge besels are gross, they feel really oldschool. Good thing is they updated software. Its hard to talk to anyone of my friends about watches, as not a single one of them is so into that - so if you need to just exchange thoughts - hit me up! Cheers.
All the watches have big bezels, it is must that the suunto has a glass bezel instead of a metal/glass combination, so you notice it more. The fenix7s is 42mm and the 9PP is 43mm diameter it the some screen size. ... so the Suuntos bezel is only 1mm thicker🤷♂️
If u want gps accuracy, percfect alitimeter (patented fusedalti) go with Suunto. I - after 7 years with Suunto - bought Fenix 7xss. And I little regret. Propably I sell F7 and I will buy S9PP
Watched (no pun intended) until the "no offline music" part. In this day and age not having such an important feature is a massive deal breaker, for me anyway, specially on a "Pro" and at this price point. I feel that the Apple Watch Ultra will be the downfall of brands like Suunto.
@@RallihSarl And you're right but Apple doesn't need to be as good as the gold standard that Garmin is because the brand already has one massive advantage over Suunto: a cult following.
how apple managed to launch such a formidable sports capable smartwatch while still not providing the backtrack/breadcrumb feature integrated with an offline map is just laughable. If they did this, then they would immediately grab Garmin and Suunto and Coros users that have iphones. The fact that they didn't just gives those companies a few more years of good market share.
@@mattpierce6629 I think Apple could provide the offline maps and map based back tracking if they want to. They already have Apple maps. I think it’s just a matter of time. They may already be working on it.
You are comparing a watch that starts at $799 (Apple) to a watch that starts at $549 (Suunto) and are targeted at 2 very different groups of people so not quite sure what you are trying to say with "at this price point".
I am looking forward to getting this watch, I have been a fan of Suunto watches since I got my Spartan Ultra. I love Suunto and the app as well. The only real issue I have had is the size. I have been using Samsung watches as my daily wear for years. Maybe this watch will be the switch!
Thanks for a great intro review. I have a Peak 9 and my only complaint is I find the screen dark and hard to read. I know Suunto has tweaked the typography on the Pro, but would like to know if you think the screen on the Pro is less dark than on the older Peak. I too find back light is necessary.
@@TheRunTesters Very disappointing watch! 2023 nearly and Suunto cannot get rid of that ugly inner black bezel. They created an Amazing OLED watch S7 but sadly left it to rot without a single update for two years! This gives you a hint how Slack Suunto are
Thank you for the review. When they say 21 days in daily normal use, is that in smartwatch mode connected to the phone or do they mean with Bluetooth off? Thanks in advance.
On the previous Suunto Peak - there were some basic items which did not seem to work, .i.e. step counting was off quite a lot and also resources seemed to plummet when even doing stretching. Have you seen any of these issues on this watch.
does it matter that much? If you compare the overall diameter size of the watch with the 1,2" diameter display - its almost the same as in FR955. Suunto just not fuck around with hiding the non-usable part of their screen under a curved plastic/titanium bezels.
Thanks for the great videos, insights and reviews; very useful and enjoyable. I am planning to buy a new fast-pace (intervals) training shoe and I am currently torn between the magic speed 2 and the endorphin speed 3. I have been waiting on your review of the magic speed 2, is it worth the wait?
@@panperesada9003 And still so slow interface... I even checked revies of Vertical (so expensive) and its slow as all Suunto. I returned my Peak 9 (non-pro) after one day. UI so slow, wait 2s for every action. Its joke for this money. Interface stayed in 2005.
Yeah, Thanks for being first out with the review of this watch. But something must be wrong with the firmware if you got only 2 days of battery out of this. I would check for update or even do a reset of the watch if this continues. :) Thanks again!
Not sure what FW you had in the watch when tested, but the battery is amazing, I can go even beyond the 40 hours (without the light always on - of course) with all satellites system on.
@@TheRunTesters I tend to agree with C Cuellar, surely lift to wake or just pressing a button to show the backlight will suffice. I have had 2 Suuntos and never enabled the backlight to be on at all times
I do, And I use it. Running intervals at 05:30 AM, when is quite dark, is quite useful to glance at your watch with the backlight on, specially in the full speed part of the interval.
It feels like Suunto have just given up trying to innovate. I’ve had every Suunto until the 9 Baro. Then I switched to the Fenix 6 pro. Half decent mapping, affordable (now) and off-line music. Ability to optimise the battery if you don’t want the smart watch functionality. All the data you could want. There’s just no real competition. And Coros have wiped the floor with Suunto in their first few watches.
Got the coros pace 2, it just matches all the features of the more expensive brands for less and I really like their software. Honestly the only downside of the pace 2 is it's cheap plastic body, if they went with even aluminium, it would probably kill most the competition imo
TOO MUCH user manual review, almost NONE actual *usability*. For a 1st time user migrating from the competitor (Polar) ... I am VERY DISSAPOINTED. The watch not only feels heavier and chunkier but also comes NEITHER with as many exercise/sleep functions as Polar NOR its HR reading feature is nearly as good as Polar. The inability to display a simple "heart rate" beat from the main clock screen... BAFFLES me ! Can't even customize the list of widgets from the watch itself, contrarily to what the Support/faq-articles webpage says. I AM RETURNING IT !
Can you tell me if it is possible on peak pro to import a route and start it while activity in progres without having to stop and save the activity before that? My garmin fr 935 doesnt alow that and probably all newer garmins as well. it is very annoying when you decide to change the route after a few hours but then have a divided activity into several parts. Great review bdw
