@@010MACS I moved from Garmin Enduro, which was great, But in my opinion and for me the Suunto Vertical hit all the right spots for me, I have the Suunto non-solar Vertical and battery life is just amazing. I have clocked just over 700km of running and its been really really good. Navigation is awesome and GPS accuracy is second to none.
Oh I literally hoped for this kind of review. Suunto seems to regularly update this device... with its battery life and design it it really cool watch to pick. Especially when Amazon discounts it to a lower price than the Race.
@@McStoolio In Germany i got a bundle of the Vertical Stainless Steel, Ocean Black with Suunto HR-Belt for 400€ at Amazon. Now its 480€ so i ws quite happy with this deal.
Amazing watch, moved back to Suunto from Polar and Garmin - can't see myself getting another watch for a long time as it's perfect for what I want - training progress, adventure planning & reliability. It's the type of watch I love more the longer I've had it and can't wait for it to start to look worn (still mint after 6 months)
Which Garmin and Polar did you have last? Why or how is the Vertical better IYHO? I currently own a Polar GxP, and am waiting till the Gx2P reviews are out, but am seriously considering either Vertical or Fenix 7 Pro.
@@gustavahenriksson if you are an MIP guy then Polar Grit X2 pro is not the way you go. Fenix 7 Pro is an amazing watch but still Suundo vertical Titanium edition will be my next choise. I have the Fenix 7 Pro, but i will give it to my brother. Im waiting to see if Garmin for the Fenix 8 will keep the path for the MIP otherwise i will go for the Suundo Vertical Ti Solar.
I wear the Suunto Vertical Titanium Solar daily since many months and I'm still happy with my choice! No issue with the software. Some new exciting customizable watch faces would be great to add though. Regarding the hardware, what a great looking watch!
Spot on review. Had the Titanium from the start. The only thing I’d add is that creating routes and sending to the watch is best in class - reliable and pretty great to follow too. Bit reroutable as Des mentions. Also, watch faces are probably worst in class. Suunto need to add a face creator page in the phone app - complications etc.
Which would you say is better for mountain navigation: Suubto vertical or Fenix 7? And which version is sharper and clearer? Which would you recommend and which model? Sapphire, titanium, steel... solar...
really if the upcoming Fenix 8 wont have an MIP display i will pick up the Suundo Vertical Titanium. Very nice watch which has lots of high end features. Just waiting to see what Garmin will decide for the Fenix 8 regarding the display. Unfortunatelly Polar went for the OLED display for the Grit X2 Pro which is not what i was expecting for. Maybe companies must listen to their customers. I know OLED is a very nice bright, clear display with good visibility, but we are athlets, and we are looking for a very nice MIP diplay which is visible outside, and is much nicer with the white backround than any OLED display with white backround, not to mention that it doesnt consume battery when a white backround is chosen.
I have the race and love it. But it has been in the market now for around 5 months… and I find I unbelievable that they don’t update it with all the bugs, my ctl numbers has a 1-2 day delay, the running predictions are not showing. Had the watch for 3 months now. I just wish Suunto were more open about their future software plans
Great review! I'm intrigued by the 'ramp rate' metric. That seems very useful. Would the Garmin equivalent be load ratio, or even just the acute load graph over time? Thanks!
Great video. Very well explained. I'm using a Garmin Enduro 2 and it has been rock solid for a year (since I bought it). Of course, not perfect, it had some bad days but every watch has, right? :P The Vertical is a much more beautiful watch but I feel like it underperforms when compared with the Enduro 2. What's your take on that? Thanks.
Hi Des, great video again. As a long-time Garmin user, I got very used to having routable maps directly on my wrist and use it actually quite often to find my way in unfamiliar areas. I'm wondering why no other company / watches have this. I realise Garmin has a history in maps, but maps can be acquired, right? What's your take on this?
Anyone heard if the Vertical will be getting an upgrade soon? I prefer the screen and look of it over the Race S but it's hardware isn't as good for the cost.
Hi Des, according to comments below, you would choose Race over Vertical. But is there anything (except battery life) that is better in Vertical? I have both of them (Vertical Titanium Solar and Race Titanium), but still uncertain, which one to keep. Is there any sense of keeping both of them? Thanks for your answer.
I've done so many researches on both watch. They are the exact same thing, BUT, apparently it's a different CHIP SET CPU inside and I can't find which is better to make my final selection on Vertical or Race. BUT so many are getting the Race, is it because of price or because it's better ? Can't wait to find the truth. Still rocking my Baro 9 first edition and love it but, all the new metrics are awesome and I want them
Nice video my friend. I wanted to ask this: Very nice these watches, but what about radiation? How harmful is it to health when you wear it all day on you?
Great video! Thanks!🙏 I was wondering while watching why the new Polar Grit X2 Pro is considered way too expensive but the high price of the Vertical is somehow ok? For me they are similar watches with similar features. Except different displays of course and the solar charging by the vertical. 🧐
I don't necessarily think the price of the Vertical is OK by any means but being made in Finland with renewable energy as well as the carbon offsets may be factors in the higher cost. It's comparing the Grit X2 Pro with the Suunto Race where the price of the Grit X2 Pro becomes harder to swallow. Thanks!
great video! so hard to find good Suunto reviews. just got the vertical solar and love it! however, its not showing all my performance stats like V02max or fitness age. it still says I need to complete 1 outdoor run to get performance insights and 3 outdoor runs to get run estimate insights. anyone else have issues with this? I've completed at least 3 runs already, but have only had the watch for about a week.
I made a long distance bicycle tour and when I created a route in Suunto App that was longer than 500 km, then for some reason the track turned out to be annoyingly inaccurate. The whole track was basically created by joining points 1-2 km far from each other. In curvy roads and in cities or villages where there are many crossing roads my route was highy confusing and hardly usable.
Using an external monitor isn’t realistic for many so if a watch HR sensor can at least provide meaningful (but not perfect) HR data, that can still be useful
@@DesFit I know I know but, when HR is off, then so as the rest of the data. Rare that I will not use my belt but when I don't, the HR is so totally of the chart it's beyond laughable. I'm not a horse to have my hr at 225bm. LOL
I really like my Vertical Titanium but I have to say that sleep is often 100% which is wrong thing and something that no one talks about but the screen is always dirty even without touching it.
hi great video, thanks. If I may ask when to use the countdown once the time is up the clock starts ringing/vibrating until you turn it off or it just rings/vibrates once and that's it
If the Countdown is up it‘s ringing/vibrating the last ten seconds and then a final ringing/vibrating and that‘s it. The alarm instead is ringing 30 seconds or you snooze it.
Thx for the Very helpful review‼️ I’m a 100-250 miler w/Enduro Gen2 (it glitches on long races). Battery & mapping are my biggest need. Coros Vertix 2 or this Vertical? I really appreciate your recommendation!
Hi What do you mean by “it glitches”? I have an Enduro 2 as well but never had any issues. But, I’m not a long distance runner. I did 12 hours hikes but no issues. I’m just curious. Have a great day.
I had a Vertix 2 and it was a very solid watch. But I find the Enduro 2 more accurate on all fronts. My Vertix 2 delaminated below the glass and they exchanged it with a new one but aside from that, no issues. The Vertix 2 is a very beautiful watch imho, much nicer than the Enduro 2. But I find the Enduro 2 more accurate (GPS and HR) and also the maps and navigation are way superior.
@@clitaiulian4497 mile 86/32 hrs. locked up had to reboot. during the next 72 mile screen kept locking, buttons non responsive, navigation crapped out. Being out on a course you don’t have time for those type of issues.
@@MiWolverine96 I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't had any issues like this but as I said, I don't do long events like these. I think every watch from every brand has its quirks. Don't know what to say here except maybe contacting Garmin. If you look closely online, you will find unhappy customers related to Coros Vertix 2 and Suunto Vertical as well. Some units probably leave the factory in a faulty state. But most of the times it's just software bugs creeping in.
can you please answer me honestly, i bought the race but i am tempted to change it to the vertical solar, does the solar really charge the watch or like garmin?? many thanks
very disappointed to hear abt the lack of solar recharging :( guess g-shock is still the king followed by garmin...... o well guess I will pass on this watch, thanks for the video 🤠
@@DesFitI notice you cycle a lot. I’m very interested in your personal opinion of what you think is the current “go to” watch for cyclists ie that can measure things like FTP etc etc.
@@DesFit Yes. Sorry my sentence was incomplete with no meaning and the video is very good. In spanish forums are some rumours about possible updates and improvements regarding HR. If so, this is my watch. I don’t know if is there any real about this. Thank you
It's still a mess of a watch. Beautiful craftsmanship but still laggy as all hell; step miscounting; HR is atrociously inaccurate and at the same price as a 7X Pro SS, one should never look at this. An alpha-stage product sold as a final one, at the latter's price. I wished, so hard, for Suunto to hit a home run with this watch but alas, it's not there.
Could have something to do with the processor or the speed at which they chose to keep the processor - both could have benefits when it comes to power consumption leading to the incredible battery life.
@@DesFit Yes wish we could choose two modes on watch, performance and battery save. I dont mind to have 2-3 days less on vertical but with faster processor. :D. Like one click overclock
Nope. Same lag. If You scroll down and wait like 10s. its speed up. Like slow awake. I scroll down to last position of menu list, than watch speed up and ui work faster (not perfect). When i go back to watchface and wait a moment, watch slow down again, and after any action (button press) its slow again for a few sec. I sam same thing on video.
Hi @Desfit, Great review, as always! Two quick questions and one wish: Q1. Can you have one type alarm for weekdays, and one for weekends, or is it one-off - weekdays - always for any alarm? Q2. Can you see your average interval pace for each interval during and after interval sessions? W1. Oh, how I would wish to see a comparison between the platforms of Suunto, Polar and Garmin (and Coros)! It would definitely help when considering the jump from one brand to another. Keep up the good work, Gus
Every Baro 9 trail runner moved from Suunto years ago, as they couldn't keep up with the release schedule of the other brands. We all moved to Coros or Garmin. Mostly Coros I'd say thanks to their influencer marketing and signing Kilian etc. who was previously with Suunto.
