@@fatimamanneh9432We know better, but the "trad wives" type are usually recruited from very young women, who don't know as much as we do, who've been told that being a SAHM is the best thing they could do. There are also a lot of men who will force them to stay at home, everything from wrecking their cars to making them so sleep deprived they can't function. The best we can do is tell the the truth, so they know what's going on. Don't forsake your little sisters, teach them.

Go search compound interest calculator online and plug in the monthly amount spent on coffee and pretend instead you invest it at 10% return over 30 or even just 20 years.

I go to Starbucks but just get a cup of black coffee and chat with a friend. I agree with no beverages at restaurants. The prices are so high. I just have water.

Depends how they got rich, and what their advice is. Suze is self-made, and she didn't become financially secure by cheating, or by harming others.

She gives advice, and enough people value it to contribute to the value of her brand. Doesn't mean it's the best possible, purest advice out there. But neither is it entirely without merit. Did not know about her association with the University of Phoenix. I know several people who got MBAs from there, knowing it wasn't the most prestigious name in higher education; but it certainly wasn't a scam on the level of Trump University. It's certainly disappointing that she would align herself with a 3rd-tier institution and it does put a tarnish on whatever good advice she has offered.

Plenty of women knew how to make a decent living even with limited opportunities, knew how to pick a good man because they were raised by one, and knew how to manage money well because their family depended on them to do so. My mother did it. So did her sisters. So did a lot of women. NEVER depend on anyone else to guide you about money. Educate yourself and know that not even a financial planner that is a fiduciary will be more committed to your current and future financial health than you are.

She thinks she is talking about the regular person, but she doesn't understand what regular people go through. She even can provide context about regular people but still she clearly doesn't understand. This is what it's like when non-authentic people are given platforms. We should be hearing from actual professionals who study the economy not business people trying to spread some toxic form of anti-consumerism. The economy works by movement of money, so if it were up to her our economy would be frozen. The reality is the business world holds the regular people hostage through debts with high interest rates and hoarding wealth. She's a wealth hoarder, she's part of the problem.

She could’ve used any of a number examples of what people are doing with their money that perhaps they shouldn’t be doing, like buying an espresso latte every day. So the problem stems from the fact that most people don’t know anything about how money works, because they haven’t been taught about how it works, therefore, you can’t do that which you don’t know, and so the problem with money is the same as the problem with kids, neither comes with instruction. You can only cut out so much, eventually you have to find more money somewhere. That's the problem we're facing right now with wage stagnation. I don't know your situation, I very much empathize with the struggle of trying to make all the necessities fit into a small income. I found out about local programs that help cover heating in the winter and cooling in the summer, some rebate programs that put money back in your pocket while still keeping your home warm. I also found that I could get a much cheaper phone plan that saved me a lot of money. Cutting out cable and sticking to libraries and free streaming services also helped me save money while still getting to enjoy some fun things. It's stressful when you don't know where you'll get the money for basics, but sometimes local community resources you don't even know about are available and can be much more helpful that an "expert" like Suz.

So Susie was using Starbucks as an example, and she could’ve used any example, but she simply chose Starbucks, which apparently hit a nerve for some people, because maybe they don’t like Starbucks for some reason, but she just took one example, and said just try doing this one thing, and it’ll make a difference in your life, and so Susie is not the be all, and end all to all your financial problems. She’s just giving you some sound advice using a particular example of how people are wasting the money they already have, while worrying about the money they don’t. So cloud out all the other stuff, and just concentrate on that one thing she said, and the rest is up to you, not up to Susie, but to you, and so can you stop doing that one thing, which is buying high price coffee at Starbucks, spending to much time and money at the casinos, buying lottery tickets and hanging out at the neighborhood watering hole in your community, just take that one idea, take that money, and redirect it into something productive, that will give you a return on your investment, and too many people don’t understand that either, they don’t understand investments, they don’t understand how it works, and they don’t correctly reason why they need to do it or how they can do it, because they have never been taught how money works, and so I’ve heard all the excuses, from I don’t have any money, or I don’t have enough money, where am I going to get the money to invest? So what I am hearing are excuses, and excuses are reasons for not doing, that’s the problem, not having the discipline, the determination to get what you want out of life, and so instead of just whining about this and that and the other thing, it just make you sick, and it doesn’t solve anything, and so stop with the complaints, and dumping all your problems on this one person, as they’re not your Lord, and Savior, and they’re not here to solve all your problems. So, as I said, only you can solve your problems, but you have to first correctly identify what the problems are, because unless you correctly, identify what the problem is, then you can never solve your problems, no matter who you are. It starts with you not someone else, but with you, so if you just listen to the message, concentrate on the message, and not on the messenger, but the message, by asking yourself, what is the message? That’s where you need to start and then you need to ask yourself a question, can I apply that lesson and repeat that lesson, by applying it in a problem solving exercise, crowding out all the distractions/noise? So we all start out working for someone else, it’s a way to earn a living, and there’s nothing wrong with that, as that’s normally how it works, but if that’s all you do is work for someone else, then you can’t expect to get rich, and you certainly won’t get wealthy by just working a job, and so the only way I know you can get rich/wealthy is to learn to get more value for the money you’re already spending, and redirecting that money into an investment that gives you the greatest return on your money, and stop worrying about the money you hope to have someday. 12% would be high speculative investing. No one who is struggling wants that kind of risk. She may be doing it though because she has more to play with. I was happy to get 4+% on some bonds last year. She has become increasingly out of touch with the economic realities of the average Joe and Jane.

Does Ms. Orman budget wisely? How much do you pay for an outfit, suzanne? How much did Ms. Orman pay for that outfit she was wearing for the interview? But she's not wasting money? Well, if she is, it is the money that people who bought her books, in effect, contributed to the Suze Orman Wealth Fund. Aren't you sick of being lectured by wealthy people about why you aren't wealthy, implying that they deserve to be?

Women are not financially insecure, and men are not financially secure. INDIVIDUALS are different from one to the next, especially if they were actually taught how to manage their finances. The only folks who learn how to manage finances are the same folks that were lucky enough to be born into a highly educated or well off family. None of this is about men vs women, it's individually oriented.

Because we worked TOGETHER for 55 years for what we have, and in a few years, one or both of us will need to be in a nursing facility. We have no parents or siblings alive. Our only child was killed in a vehicle accident 5 yrs ago. AND I object to paying the cost of a 1/2 can of coffee when he drinks 10 cups a day at home. Selfish, but I have always been known to be frugal (cheap).
