These are great harps and the pro master reed plates fit them perfectly,as do the Bushman Delta Frost ones, which actually come mounted on the Bushman comb which is identical.Actually the reed plates are identical to the blues master ones, with spot welded reeds.
I am looking to buy my first harmonica and am undecided on the Bluesmaster or Hohner Special 20. If I get the Bluesmaster, I assume I will sound just like you...? ;-)
I recommend the Bluesmaster or Lee Oskar for heavy playing, they seem to last longer for me. Many people like Special 20, I like their tone but I seem to wreck the reed pretty quickly.
I have not tried the Folk Master, but it looks to have a wooden comb compared to a plastic comb on the Blues Master. This should give it a slightly mellower or softer tone. The plastics combs are slightly more cutting and louder typically. The Blues master has different shaped covers which feel more comfortable to me. The shape may effect the tone slightly.
The LO has a different tuning than the others mentioned. It’s tuned very similar to the Hohner golden melody. The only noticeable difference is when playing chords. A hohner tuned in compromised (MB, sp20, MS series) is tuned to make chords sound good, and melody notes slightly out of tune. A LO will have single notes in-tune, so the chords will sound a bit rough. Okay they an amp and no one will hear the difference.
I own both a Hohner Special 20 and a Bluesmaster. And honestly? I prefer the Bluesmaster. It sounds great, it’s really pleasant to hold (not really a fan of the sharp edges on the Hohner) and IMHO it looks really nice too. I’ll keep the Hohner as a back-up though.
Question,I have a Suzuki Bluesmasters at least 15 years old and plays really good, I would like to order another one but I’m wondering, have they changed at all, mine has a maroon comb and I see the ones I’m looking at online have a black comb
Great, and technically accomplished as Japanese made harmonicas are, in my opinion, one thing seems missing, at least to me, and that is “SOUL”, an essential quality when playing the blues! That’s why I always prefer Hohner harps.
