Esta sonata concentra sencillez y complejidad, pureza y doblez, dicha y amargura. Obra total que no ceso de admirar y más aprecio cuantos más años pasan. Sin contar que fue tu preferida. ¡Amigo del alma! Temblabas antes de escucharla, como el álamo tocado por el viento. En ella encontrabas la plenitud, tanto era el sentimiento de libertad que en ti despertaba, y el ansia de alzarte por encima de tu condición mortal. No es que tuvieras miedo a la muerte sino a consumirte en apariencias regladas. Me considerabas tu mentor, cuando tú me enseñaste más de cuanto te aporté. Iconoclasta y un tanto rebelde, admiraba en ti el espíritu de ave peregrina. Desde el inicio, sentí nuestra amistad al modo de Montaigne: « Parce que c’était lui, parce que c’était moi ». Tú, la tomaste con un ansia voraz. A bocanadas, como viviste tu corta vida. Del mismo modo recibías la música tal oxígeno indispensable a la existencia. Flujo y remanso. Ahora, escuchar esta sonata representa para mí un doble riesgo, el de entregarme sin bastillas al recuerdo y el de arrancarme al letargo que representa tu ausencia. Tanto más que la energía oscura de su tercer movimiento me reenvía al vacío donde incuban la nostalgia y el dolor.
Waarschijnlijk past deze foto niet bij de gespeelde muziek want Richter speelt geweldig goed en niet als iemand van 78 jaar, 4 jaar voor zijn overlijden. Op deze foto lijkt het alsof hij erg depressief is en ook alsof hij struma heeft....maar aan zijn spel is niets bijzonders te horen, het is zoals altijd , prachtig !
As much as I love Richter's playing, I can't stand the tempo of his second movement. Way, way too slow, as if falling off the bench. After all, the two themes are period German folk dances, have to be more lively...
the German newspaper 'süddeutsche zeitung' 21/22 march 2015 page 24 cites Richtes' explanation why he is playing the allegro molto in the second set in quartes and not in eights
Richter extended the Allegro molto only by 30%. Well within interpretive license. At least he didn't double the length! That would have caused real discomfort. The movement is a short one, and many sections are not slowed much at all. Open your mind a bit. A great artist is speaking and, in this case, he deserves to be heard.
Are you sure that this is from 1993? The latest recording of Richter playing this sonata that I can find is from May 27,1992 (in London's Royal Festival Hall). See pianistdiscography.com/discography/pieceDetail.php?workSENT=200
