When the conference was founded in 1920, it was composted of 6 Texas schools hence the Southwestern name Only PV remains from the original 6 (the rest (that are still open) are currently NAIA schools) as the private schools left. BCU joined in 2021 as a private HBCU (and the only one in the conference)
I’ve been to Grambling’s stadium for a High School game, and let me just tell you- when you walk down those steps into the stadium it’s breath taking. It almost feels as if your walking under ground it’s a cool feeling
I played my last ever college football game at Daytona Stadium - my favorite feature is the signs as you pull in that say "beware of gators". It is literally located in the swamp.
Proud PVAMU alumn. When I got there in 2007, the stadium was trash and the typical thing you'd hear from students was "my high school has a better stadium"... and it would be true. Now, the entire athletic complex looks a thousand times better than it ever has.
The Prairie View stadium is used for high school playoffs, being a lot better than its predecessor. In the Jim Crow era, Black school sports in Texas were governed by the Prairie View Interscholastic League.
@@crkmt You got that right Gram beat Pv 17 years str8 in the State Fair Classic..Now Pv is riding I think a 3or4 win streak vs Gram but that will change in upcoming classic in Dallas on Oct 1,2022..GRAMFAM4LIFE🖤💛❤️HOLD DAT TIGER 🐅
Grambling's stadium was originally a lake. GSU biology students often take soil samples from the field and they consistently find that the lake wants to reassert itself as such.
The SWAC was formed in 1920 with only six Texas schools. Back then, Texas was considered part of the Southwest, because barely anyone lived in Arizona and New Mexico at the time. More eastern schools gradually joined as the western ones dropped out, while the conference became known as the premier league for historically black colleges. They notably don't participate in the national playoffs, and have some unique traditions likes Thanksgiving Day games and spectacular marching band performances.
Yeah, came here to say this, it's kind of fell off but AR, LA, TX, and OK are considered the "Old Southwest". Kind of like some midwestern states say they are in the "West". HBCUs are fun. My alma mater is an SEC school and we have started letting their bands play the halftime.
thanks for showing off SWAC stadiums. Mississippi Veterans Stadium is the best especially band wise. i knew before i watched the bruno mars references were coming
I live in Alabama and have drove by both of those stadiums in this video. They aren't bad. But ASU's is better. Funny thing is these two schools always play each other in Birmingham in what is called, "The Magic City Classic."
@@JamesWilson-eq2rp And part of the reason why the Jackson State-Alcorn State game was played every year in Jackson was because Alcorn's stadium has nowhere near the capacity as Mississippi Veteran Memorial Stadium. Bigger stadium, more tickets.
@@JamesWilson-eq2rp True…for now. As the speaker said, ASU’s stadium can easily be extended. Once the HBCU fan base builds with everything Deion’s doing, I’m sure they will eventually add the seating.
For a stadium that was built in 1992, Alcorn State's looks like it's much older...For Alabama A&M's stadium, you would need to bring your binoculars to get a good look at the action...Alabama State's stadium is underrated. Arguably one of the best at the FCS level and a lot nicer than many on the FBS level.
The SWAC need to invest heavily in new stadiums . So many are outdated and doesn’t have any of the updated accessories that create a great fan environment
SWAC schools really dont have the funds to go putting a ton of money into their stadiums. They dont really get the same money as big schools in their state so the little money they do get gotta go to keeping the school afloat
@@2Fly17 yeah, but the focus has to be on improving the academic facilities and the dormitories for students. It would be nice to just do as San Diego State is doing and build a spanking new facility, but these schools bread is not buttered by athletics. Its enrollment that keeps them afloat. If you can take care of that first, I'm all for new digs.
@@Snow-fh5kr Where are we getting the money? We don't have the funds of the PWIs to offer more FULL scholarships to top-tier black players that could bring in more money for all these upgrades you're suggesting. Learn the history how integration killed these schools--nothing to do with anything else. And some of the state HBCUs are still not getting the same funds as some of their PWI counterparts of the same size. Also, the answer isn't in lower academic standards anymore than some of these larger HBCUs already have--the academics has to remain competitive or the academic student's degrees won't produce in the job market--most of us aren't trying to get into the NFL and need degrees that firms respect.🤨
The most attractive and modern stadium overall. Plus, a formidable football team and our Track and Field program (female) has won more SWAC Championships than any other team!
It's a nice stadium but I wouldn't say it's that spectacular. It would have been cool if it was a little more like UAB's new stadium. PV's stadium isn't bad. JSU's stadium just screams college football. When they get a new one if should take the best elements from the current one and maybe some from UAB and MTSU
Awsome! You finally got to an HBCU conference..do not forget to cover the MEAC...by the way Bragg Stadium has also received Artificial Turf along with a small modest renovation for this year.
So sad at how the HBCU black college stadiums get little to no funding by the government opposed to all the rich white colleges around the nation. They deserve to be given the same treatment.
Yes we do need more help. People get confused when the SWAC and D2 HBCUs say that Donald Trump money was more so far the HBCUs close to the white house and also some of those president's knew Donald Trump well. Now sadly in the case of some HBCUs, the president of the school has wonderful visions for the school but the city isn't really helping them out.
@@brysonbradford8622 there are a lot of variables as to why that is. Some schools get A LOT of alumni support...or they did...until a lot of that money went into 'black holes'. SU, FAMU, AND Grambling have no business looking the way they do. TxSU was kinda built haphazardly so an on campus stadium was out of the question unless some academic buildings are demoed....
when he said that they have the highest attendence i was like "prob cause of the bands" lol. SWAC has really leaned into the bands for entertainment even going as far as the announcers controlling zero and fifth quarters.
Ha! Oh yeah? You won't be saying the same thing at night time over there, the lighting is so dim which doesn't help when you're back up in the country lol
Alabama state and PV have the best-looking stadiums. Jackson state is just big and boring. At least they have a large fan base. A&M stadium was builtin in the 90s and was one of the best looking and modern ones at the time. It is outdated now and needs some updates. Alcorn stadium is a lackluster but great atmosphere. I wish that all HBCUs could have the support of the communities, government, and alumni like none HBCUs.
@Joseph Chambers hey, y’all have a pretty awesome stadium. My company I work for has an office in Stephenville so I’m there once a week. Awesome campus and awesome stadium. I’m looking forward to renewing the rivalry with y’all in November
My school’s old rival, UCA, is in that conference. Since I imagine it’ll be a while before he gets to D2 (if he does so anyway) that’s the only Arkansas school I have to look forward to now
@@TnD_BigJax I’m honestly scared to play y’all later this year and we have to travel to y’all. When I saw the upset of Florida St. I was like oh that’s cool and then I saw y’all are in this combined conference and we have to travel there I was like well this should be fun
Grambling alumnus here GramFam. Some contexts about the Eddie G Robinson stadium. It’s a drained lake, also the Swac is one of the D1 HBCU athletic conferences
Grambling State's stadium reminds me of two high school stadiums in Tacoma, Washington. The Lincoln Bowl and Stadium Bowl, where the movie, "10 Things I Hate About You", was filmed.
@@cappyjones No it is not! It has character and is perfect for the tiny size of that town and we would look ridiculous blowing money on a large stadium. Auburn up the road has twice the number of students than Tuskegee has in the entire town, lol. Perhaps a few upgrades and better concession areas, I love the grassy knolls for family gatherings under the awnings, but spending no more than maybe $50K. Our money needs to continue to be mostly directed at our higher academic standards as our degrees have tremendous value in the market. 4th Gen Grad
Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium was formerly the second home of Ole Miss and Mississippi State. It also hosted the 1993 DCI Championships. Now the nearby University Medical Center covets the site for expansion, and already uses its parking lots.
I don't think you said anything correct about bcu or the stadium....it's not their stadium they can't sell food there , it's on the opposite side of the city , and Daytona International Speedway host the races on a brand new track and remodeled facility. I live here and went to famu your just making stuff up
The view of the hill and the foothills of the Appalachian mountains from the homeside of Alabama A&M's stadium is the best view of all of these. Hate he left that view out!
As AamU Bulldog I’ve never been in their stadiums as the Magic City Classic is played in Birmingham not Montgomery? From what I’ve seen from videos it’s a very nice stadium.
Lol, you threw a bit of shade to my maternal grandfather's alma mater, FAMU. And I don't know where you are from, but 'Normal' in the States refers to schools built to teach the standards or 'norms' of education (for a teacher's license in the old days). Hope you do the MEAC.
Yes, they are nice, especially considering how much smaller the schools are and the money lost in enrollment after schools realigned. Happy to see any investments being made in our athletics.
@@AdamWild572 Wow.😬 I don't have those "gripes" as a Nittany Lion, but traffic around Beaver Stadium after a "White Out" is nothing short of gut wretching. #thirdlargeststadiumintheusa #thirdlargesttrafficjamtoo
Any D1 school that still has a track in there stadium is trash and embarrassing asf there are D2 and 3s that don’t have tracks on their stadiums yet y’all have one
@@therealmccoy2004 righttttt plus a track dosnt look very collegiate it looks very high school to me and on top of that the track Doesn’t even look well manicured like what’s the point of having track if u can’t take care if it it’s definitely an eyesore
All of those colleges need new stadiums I can guarantee you Clemson Alabama Florida all them got excellent excellent Stadium it doesn't make any sense for HBCU to have poor Stadium as that that's ridiculous all these celebrities black stalls that we have could donate millions of dollars to help HBCU black colleges out it don't take a rocket science to think outside of the box how to get money to help each School get a better Stadium
Texas Southern alum here. We also have a smaller on campus stadium called Alexander Durley Stadium where our football team practices and its also where our soccer team plays their home games and where we have our track and field events. The most notable being the TSU Relays which is extremely popular in college track and field. There have been talks of plans to expand the stadium because while BBVA is nice many prefer to have games on campus. And while the Dynamo have done a decent job at accommodating us it still doesn’t feel like “our” stadium. I like BBVA but it would be nice to have games on campus in a stadium that truly belongs to us.
@JR JR That would be helpful. If when the university was first founded and the purchased the land where Cuney Homes is we probably could have put an on campus stadium there.
@@bjnt92281 Quite honestly as much as Cuney homes is an unofficial landmark of 3rd ward. It’s been time for them to go.I’ll build the stadium there. I hate driving down Scott and seeing UofH big ass stadiums and ours is non-existence.
@@jheht2000 Problem is people still live there. Where would they go? Plus even if they were paid off via imminent domain that would not be good PR for the university.
Man it was hilarious and amazing at the same time. Having a voice from the UK narrate our stadiums history. We must be doing something right. Gotta luv it!
Please make a video of hugest ad biggest Stadiums of Iran and also Stadiums of Persian Gulf Pro football(FIFA) League stadiums(Iranian first tier football League) and Stadiums of Azadeghan league of Iran (Iranian Second tier Football league)🇮🇷🇮🇷🙏👨
Like cfb stadiums, they are of every kind, size and shape. They are smaller though, from what I could research (largest one with about 20k of capacity). The place with most top tier HS stadiums seems to be Texas. Some really nice ones. They also have the best level of competition. A common thing is a bigger stadium in the city being home to multiple schools. Like the Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Some rivalry games are played in college or even NFL stadiums for bigger crowds. Like the City-Poly in Baltimore, played at the home of the Ravens, M&T Bank Stadium. The championship games are also at NFL or college football stadiums at the end of every season. Like in Texas: they are at AT&T Stadium. In Alabama they rotate between the Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Jordan-Hare Stadium and the brand new Protective Stadium in Birmingham
Regarding your second question, not too many high schools have (European) football specific stadiums. They mostly use the same field/stadium as the (American) football teams. As someone else mentioned here, there are a lot of cases in bigger towns where there is one stadium shared by multiple high schools (often for the American football teams). Sometimes, that gives each of the high schools a chance to have a small stadium/field on campus at the high school and that can be used by the (European) football teams. But in most of those case, it might only be 5-10 rows of bleachers on one side of the field, and there is often a running track for athletics surrounding the field.
So my older brother played for UAPB for one year when I was five and I remember going to their stadium and the Alabama A&M stadium, but that was like 10 years ago and I was only 5, so I don't remember many details.
Complains about jaguar but says Alabamer, Daytoner, sor? What up with the hidden Rs? Lol I’m sorry, you changed it up with Daytorna. Snuck that one in.
