Hi Kevin. I rarely like or comment but wanted to say, really great, in-depth review. I appreciated your going down and then up a hill. I'd like to see you go up a more steep hill. Valve extensions! Wow - never thought of it. I've had a Glide Cruiser and an Eco-Rico and both were difficult to inflate due to the short stem on the tire. Great idea to get valve extensions!
That's very kind of you to say, Darby! Thank you! Given its economy rating, I wouldn't put much stress on the motor for an angle above 15 degrees, but it does well in the city and suburban areas. My girlfriend really likes it and that's a huge win because she was terrified of being on it and falling off before we took some time to ride together. And yes, those valve extensions are a lifesaver!
@@elibelmont5980 I have never actually run out of battery life while I'm out and about. I honestly can't answer that. I am out and about for hours sometimes and though it may drop to about 1/3 battery life, I haven't experienced anything less than that.
Hi, Marie! Exactly, the battery would need to work a bit more, so getting up to speed would take a bit longer and it would likely max out around 13-15 mph. It isn't extremely torquey, but it would do just fine on most level surfaces.
Thanks for letting me know, Richard. You will need to act quickly, but Swagtron has a 30-day return policy for your convenience. I used it, myself, when my brakes were not working as well as I needed them to. They shipped me a new unit and paid for shipping. Turns out, it was my fault that I didn't take the time to learn how to accurately adjust ALL the breaking points instead of doing what I could see made sense to me at the time (I shouldn't have assumed and paid attention to the instructions, but I was lazy😜 ). Regardless, they sent me a new unit (kudos to Swagtron). Also, the Swagger 5 does not list a water bottle holder because it doesn't come with one. I went to Walmart and spent like $4 on a cheap one and it's awesome! Regarding the phone holder, make sure you pull EVERYTHING out of the box and check the inserts in the foam packing, as the charger and phone holders are sometimes taped inside. There are two little white boxes inside. One contains the charger and the other contains the phone holder. Follow these instructions to have them ship you a new unit with the phone holder if you still can't find it (these instructions are included in your shipment box, by the way): 1. Go to swagtron.com/swagtron-return-rma-form/ 2. Fill out the form and upload your receipt as the form requests. 3. Check your email after up to 48 hours to download your return shipping label (they pay for this). 4. Repack your Swagtron neatly, with all items they sent to you (this is important) 5. Attach your shipping label to the outside and drop off at your local UPS store. 6. They will get back to you within 10 days of receiving the Swagger 5 and either send you a new one or fix the problem you had. I get the feeling you'll just get a new unit, since there doesn't see to be anything broken from your description 7. They mail you the unit back and you can take it out of the box, charge it, adjust the brakes, handles, etc and you're good to go! My unit only does like 15.6mph, but my girlfriend can do faster, cause she's lighter.Your body weight could be effecting the speed and so could the terrain. If you are not on a completely flat surface without bumps to interrupt acceleration for a long stretch, you will have difficulty achieving max speed (which can vary based on your weight). I hope this helps! Go ahead and get moving on that return so you'll have the chance to get a free replacement in the 30 day window! I also bought the 3-year warranty for like $50 (totally worth it with anything electronic). I would recommend that, too, if you can still get it on Amazon. Best wishes on the process! Hello, I’ve been looking at both the Swagtron and Segway Ninebot for scooters. Price I’m not worried about, durability is my main focus and so far you’ve posted the best review on the Swagtron that I’ve discovered. Only a few questions, 1) have you encountered a flat tire before and did you have to call and order a replacement? 2) How often do you use yours? I go to a college that’s pretty big and riding one of these would definitely help me get to class on time. Hope to hear a reply, but if not thank you for showing others how fun this scooter is!
Great questions and thanks for asking! My experience with durability has been a thumbs up. As you likely already discovered, there are different scooters for different riders. The Swagtron Swagger 5 is perfect for short to medium commutes, especially in high traffic areas with walkers and bikers. It's not super powerful or fast, but 15-18 mph max is plenty for getting around campus. 10-12 mph is good enough so that you can be safe along the way. I would highly recommend adjusting the breaks (or having a bike shop adjust them for you), as I find them to be sub-par right out of the box. My girlfriend really likes it and she wasn't fond of even trying it. It didn't take her long to get the hang of it. I just posted another video on my channel yesterday showing her riding for the first hour or so if you wanna check it out. I have never had a flat tire, but Swagtron does sell tire replacements on their website, so that's handy. Keep in mind the rear tire is solid rubber, so it's only the front tire where the motor is that could possibly run flat. I have two different scooters right now and use them both almost daily. I love to throw them in the car and head downtown and scoot around to avoid traffic or busy areas and the wind in my face keeps me cool in hot weather. I've heard great things about the Ninebot, though, so I have nothing negative to say. I was more concerned with being able to get support, ask questions and having a community I can share with like this. I would also purchase the 3-year warranty with the Swagger 5. I bought mine on Amazon at the link in the description of this video and it's totally worth it for a machine that costs $300 or more! Service and support are paramount. I hope this helps!

My girlfriend will be the first to admit that she has terrible coordination and balance and I have recently begun putting a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads on her when we ride to help her feel more confident, but even she got the hang of it. Hey can someone answer me i buyed Swagtron SG-5 Boost 300 and i cant connect it with bluetooth and how can i go 18 mph i can only 15.5 😏 can someone help
Hi, Tomas. You may need to provide more information for me to assist with getting bluetooth connected. You must download the swaggar app on your phone and sign in to pair your scooter to the app. Not everyone will be able to achieve 18mph, as you may have seen in my video. I likely weigh too much for the scooter to reach maximum speed and I top out around 14-15mph on a flat surface. If you weigh over 150 lbs, you may experience a lower maximum speed, due to a less powerful motor than other scooters with at least twice the wattage your Swagtron has. It isn't uncommon for people who weigh more than 150 lbs to experience this same issue. I hope this helps!

Thanks so much! Can you fold it and roll it one one wheel like the Glion Dolly or even the Ninebot E2? I take the tram a lot and won’t want to pick up the whole folded scooter horizontally and haul it around on a train.
The Swagtron does fold down and is easy to carry, but it doesn't "trolly" the same way some scooters do. Once it's folded it's easier to just pick it up to get on a train than to trolly it along behind you. My girlfriend is able to carry it along for the short distances we may need to traverse on foot and it hasn't been a problem for us.
So you said to invest in a metal tube thing to extend the place where you pump air inside. Is that because the thing it comes with isnt very good at doing its job? I am having trouble with my pump pumping air into the scooter but I'm not sure if maybe it's the wheel or the pump or the connection between the wheel and the pump that won't allow me to make my wheel firm.
Yes, you can pick up a metal (or plastic) valve stem that will screw onto the tiny valve stem on the front wheel of the Swagger 5. Once you attach the valve stem, you can connect your air pump to the valve stem and you will have no problem firming up your tire. The valve stem on the Swagger 5 is shorter than most conventional air pumps so that it will not hit the front fork of the scooter when it's in motion, but the original valve stem is totally effective and operable. It's not a quality issue, but rather a compatibility issue.
Yes, but keep in mind, you're going to be cruising without having to work for it, so if they are kicking a scooter, bike or skateboard along, they may envy you a lil' bit - LOL! Great question! The newer models do not come with a phone mount, but it does appear that they come with a waterbottle holder, instead. Also, the tires are both honeycomb airless tires, so they are all rubber with no need to check air pressure. Also, they come with a higher power motor a battery with a longer range - great value!!

@@breakmydreams Actually, the honeycomb tires require less maintenance and do not require air pressure. You’ll never have to worry about a flat tire. Honeycombs are preferable for many people. I have since changed my read tire to a honeycomb tire because the old model did not come with them. This is perfect scooter for beginner. It doesn’t have. Lot of torque and only does up to 18mph, so it’s perfect for entry level. Regarding the phone mount, I actually prefer a number of aftermarket phone mounts to the one that came with mine. I don’t even use it. I bought one with a rubber brace for the bar. I would recommend buying one on your own as well, frankly.

Thank you! Over the past year, I chose to replace the back tire with a higher quality solid rubber tire and better tread. I really like it. Not issues with the scooter, except, I’ve finally noticed a slight decline in battery longevity after countless uses over time. Nothing major, but I can still have a great time snd haven’t runout of battery when riding, so we’ll see how the battery holds up over the next year!
Nicklaus, I'm glad you asked about San Francisco. The Swagtron Swagger 5 is great for scooting around on level surfaces and minor inclines/declines. Fifteen-degree inclines are around the limit for the Swagger 5, unfortunately. To climb inclines higher than 15 degrees, you'll need a more powerful machine. Unfortunately, this means you will need to spend significantly more money, but San Fran is no joke and the last thing you'll want to do is get stuck carrying a machine you bought to carry YOU! I’m comparing the swagtron swagger 5 to the hover 1 alpha electric scooter on amazon both are comparable in prices, ( hover has better watts and bigger tires) but I’ve seen bad reviews on the swagger compared to the hover 1 alpha. Which one you recommend???? Thanks!!
Go with your gut, honestly! I have had a great time with my swagger 5, but I am always open to change and better models. If your gut tells you to go with the hover 1, go for it! I recommend always buying insurance on them, though. I tend to do that and don’t regret it.
I’m about 190. I’ve seen bigger guys ride these things, too. I would recommend it if you are below 220lbs. Any more that that and I think the motor will struggle making inclines.
Reliability has been hit or miss with units. It comes with a year warranty and I also bought a 3 year extended warranty as well. When I have a problem I ship it back on their dime and they just send me a new one. The inconvenience is that it does take a couple of weeks to get it back. I'm really enjoyed having the Swagger. I also bought another electric scooter, which I will be doing a video on in a few months (more to come on that one). Overall, the Swagger has been great for the price for me.
I just recently purchased one. I love it but it was falling apart for me at first and came missing with alot of screws. The fender lock latch fell off and the Swatron text just faded away. Doesnt go 11 miles. I can reach about 7.5 miles in distance and ive reached about 16.7 miles per hour. Still like it though despite the false advertisement
I’m sorry to hear that. I experienced none of those issues to date. You have a one year warranty with the purchase of the Swagger 5. I hope you took advantage of it. Regarding the advertised maximum speed, it can reach speeds of UP TO 18 MPH, so I expected around 15 MPH given my height and weight at 5’11” and about 186lbs and that’s about what I’m getting. My more light weight friends can reach higher speeds, but consider that “Maximum Speed” is under certain ideal conditions. Those conditions include recommended tire pressure and total body weight under 165lbs. It still carries me along just fine, though I lose about 3 MPH due to my size. I really hope you have already taken advantage of that warranty. They’ve done a great job of communicating and being accountable to my needs.

I actually email support@swagtron.com directly and let them know I have a problem and they email me a shipping label to drop off at UPS. I didn't have to wait at all (except it to be shipped by UPS, for them to cross-examine the scooter and ship it back). I'm just curious how you ended up waiting at all...did you write a letter or something??

It just stays on whether the scooter is on or not. Too many problems. I wouldnt reccommend this brand.

Both times, they send me shipping labels, fixed the issue and replaced the scooter with a new one. Congrats on the weight loss! There's never a better time than now to set personal goals! Yes, you shouldn't certainly be fine with the weight limit, although inclines may be a bit of a challenge at certain points. I haven't discovered any comparably priced alternatives with more power, but the Zero 9 eScooter is one I purchased after the Swagtron and it delivers much more torque. Not at all, actually. That’s the average speed for scooters in this price range. When I need more speed, I ride one of my more expensive scooters with much larger motors and better suspension.
